was skeptical due to previous owners but wow!!!!. shaan indian is the best indian dig in this city! i was skeptical at first given my experiences with the previous owners and food (under another name) but when speakig with an indian client of mine, he highly recommended theplacefor both food and service. i have been there 3 x since and each experience was phenomenal. i've had 1)non vegetarian combo which consisted of a portion each of curry lamb, curry shrimp and curry chicken, a piece of tandori chicken with sauteed onion and pepper, garlic nan these are not tiny blobs on a gradeschool lunch tray like @ baba india but very nice sized servings with 4-5 pieces of meat in each one. 2) mushroom matar, a very wonderful mix of mushrooms, peas and tomato sauce!, 3) malai kofta (best veggie balls i've ever had) and the lamb biryani. a wonderful mix of veggies, curry, lamb nuts and rasins. the food is plentiful and absolutely delicious. the service i believe is a father and son tag team. they are warm and friendly (unlike the ladies @ baba who clear plates and refill water and never smile) and stand against the wall by the kitchen door stoned faced. no slam on babas food from me, it's very good but shaan is better, a tad less expensive and when i eat there i already feel like a valued and appriciated customer. they have my loyalty now.... kudos to the front end and the kitchen!!!!!!

my favoriteplacein town!. i can't say enough good things about this place! i love it, we eat there every single week. buffet is super reasonable and there is always a saag dish on the list. way better than baba india and every bit as good as ambar. plus - no crowds! super friendly owners/waitstaff!

we went to shaan indian cuisine for my birthday today. the reason i went to thisplaceis because so many people gave it a good review!

shaan indian buffet was not good. the foods were not well prepared and there was a lack of variety. the curries flavors tasted off, the foods were all over cooked, some of it almost tasted like it was burned. the samosas were tough and greasy, the potato filling tasted bland and like they had been over cooked and had sat too long.

service was not great either. we will not be going back!

hidden gem. i have driven by thisplacein hyde park plaza countless times and not even realized that it was a restaurant. upon recommendation from my father-in-law, me, my wife and her mother all went this last friday night. it was not busy, but had a good number of people there. the service was friendly and done well. the food made me happy and delighted. it was sooooo good! i also love the byob aspect, though i felt a little weird bringing in my own bottle of homebrew to a restaurant having never been to a byobplacebefore. overall i love thisplaceafter just one visit. i am sure i will be back again and again.

love shaan. i love the extensive menu that actually tells you what things are-it makes me less hesitant to drop $10 on a dinner that i may not like. the more gentle level of spices also enables me to try more! shaan's my favorite indianplacein the city.

shaan is a medium sizedplacewith almost no decor to speak of, but the food is so good that if the walls were just blank white, it would be ok. the service was impeccable and the menu was huge. i was not surprised to see diners pouring in around 7:30 and there was a waiting area in a vestibule for their peak hours which probably gets used a lot. one other thing which was remarkable about shaan, their sense of timing was spot on. they knew when to serve and when to leave you to your own devices. you could tell that they were experienced at making guests feel unrushed but tended-to.

i grabbed dinner there tonight as we do most saturday nights and they were celebrating 4 years in business. i'm thrilled to have them here, as there food has become a weekly tradition in our house and the owner is one of the greatest restaurant professionals in the city. go check them out - you won't be sorry!

best of the best. i got carry out for about the 30th time tonight and have to say, thisplacerocks! i drive by an oakley indian restaurant to go to shaan about every other saturday, as the owner is the friendliest man i've ever me in an indian restaurant. they now know me by name and even took my number so they could call me when my favorite dish is on the buffet. give them a try; they won't disappoint.

best customer service. we live in norwood and frequented daata because of their proximity, but daata is now closed. i will defintely drive right past baba on my way to shaan, as it has become our new favorite indian gig. cincy has a ton of great indian food, but what separates shaan is their service (their food is fantastic too). they clearly "get it" as far as our culture goes, unlike the unfriendly service you get elsewhere.

fantastic lunch buffett. as a self pronounced buffet connoisseur, i've made my rounds to pretty much every indian buffet in the city. what i had today though was clearly the best thus far. the selection was the largest (most indian buffets have few options), they had a semi-spicy chicken vindeloo (rare to find any spice in a buffet), and tender and moist tandoori chicken (most is dry). i will be back here again and highly suggest everyone looking for a better indian option to check thisplaceout as well.

p.s. they have the best coupons for dinner available in the city and you can download them off their site.

sub-par service and an impolite owner. i don't much care for indian food, but as far as it goes the food at thisplaceis decent. however, the service has consistently been, cold, uninviting, and downright inappropriate. at first things were subtle enough to ignore: an inattentive waiter here, or a dirty look over a reduced tip during the buffet (it's a buffet!). but things got much worse one crowded night when we were essentially ignored for ten minutes while two empty tables sat unused. we left and went to baba's instead, which sat us as soon as a booth opened up.

tonight we decided for whatever reason to give shaan another chance. huge mistake. dinner was fine enough, but afterwards the owner awkwardly asked my girlfriend what name she went by, as she had written a review about our previous experience. on top of that when taking the bill he said thank you sir even though it was clear she was paying. this was highly inappropriate and completely unprofessional, not to mention chauvinistic. rather than redeeming his restaurant, the owner's impolite behavior has ensured we will never be eating there again.

one last thing during dinner my girlfriend noticed that her chicken tikka massala tasted just a bit off... based on the owner's behavior i don't want to know what the special ingredient was. avoid thisplaceat all costs. go to dusmesh instead. great service and better food!

this is it!. my husband and i ate at shaan for the first time this past friday evening. i have to say, they were spot on with their preparations and taste! i was recently in india and fell in total love with their cuisine. i have been looking for an authenic indian resturant to savour those fond memories of pecurliar spices. shaan, is it!!!

we met a really nice couple and shared good conversation. they even offered to share their wine with us!

nice laid back atmosphere. greatplaceto go after a hectic work week. ;-)

we'll definitely return soon. only downfall is, it's nowhere near colerain twp. so, it's a bit of a drive for us. but, most definitely worth it!

fantastic in every way. don't let the strip mall location fool you. this is the most delicious indian food in the city. portions are generous for the price. the owner is a wonderful, friendly man who always makes you feel welcome and appreciated when you stop in. try the chicken saag -- you won't be disappointed.

when i first started going here, there was never much business. i worried that they would close. lately, it's busier and busier every time i go. so happy that this deserving gem is being discovered by more and more cincinnatians.

shaan can't be beat.. the most delicious indian food in the cincinnati area. generous portions, unique menu options, impeccably kind and courteous service, and absolutely the best saag you can find. some indian restaurants seem like the same sauce with different meats and vegetables mixed in. not at shaan. my only complaint is that thisplaceis never busy enough and i fear that it won't stay in business if people don't forgo all the crappy indian options out there and start patronizing this hidden gem.

delicious! (and gluten free friendly!). thisplaceis hands down the best indian food in cincinnati at the best price. the service is much, much better than baba india, and the owner and his wife are welcoming and friendly. at $7.99, you absolutely must try the lunch buffet, which is a nice selection of appetizers and entree dishes.

thisplaceabsolutely excels at cream sauces--the best tika saag i've ever eaten. they also do something magical to their chicken pakora, which makes you need to go back again and again for lunch.

good news for those on a gluten-free diet! the wonderful crisp vegetables and pakora use chick pea flour, rather than regular flour! ask about other safe dishes.
