far & away the best seafood on hilton head. i've never had anything fried there, so can't speak to that complaint on here, nor have i ever had anything close to rude service. they are efficient because they're busy, but i loathe restaurant people who want to befriend me, anyway, so i like just having my order taken, then brought to me. and the fish is fresh & fantastic, the sides are authentic southern dishes, and the tea & hush puppies are perfection. there are a dozen other restaurants for you on hhi if you want fawning "family friendly" service & bland, even previously frozen food. and, yes, roast fish & cornbread is good too, though not to the exclusion of sea shack.

great food! reminiscent of the soup nazi as far as service goes, but tasted good enough to overlook the rude service

great food for the price. when the line forms 1 hour before the restaurant opens, the expectations are high! the wait is worth it, especially for the delicious scallops and fried okra. if you are dieting, you can get the mixed greens and a seafood topper. don't go expecting fine dining, go for a great meal at a great price. the cooks and servers are pleasant and make the experience one you will remember!

the sea shack is one of hh's best places to enjoy fresh, affordable seafood. during the peak summer months, the wait can be long and arduous... thanks to rachael ray's putting sea shack on $40 a day. their motto is, "not fancy, just good" and the atmosphere is very causal. seafood: fried, grilled or blackened with generous portions (at reasonable prices), is their forte. my son, had their signature "shack attack" combo, which includes crab-cakes, fish, shrimp, oysters and scallops served with hush puppies and two sides. on this occasion, he had the sweet potato fries and mac & cheese. i started with the she crab soup and had a soft-shelled crab sandwich with fries and cole slaw. it's a great place for families due to the low cost but the wait can be brutal on the kids.

price: $$ feed the 'fam' for about half as much as at the other hh seafood restaurants

food: it's seafood prepared fried, grilled or blackened - although the quality seems to be fading

service: could use a dose of southern hospitality

decor: the sea shack... appears to have been - ransacked

this isn't the kind of place to come if you're a snooty tourist who wants to be pampered. this is a place for fantastic, fresh local seafood. the line is long, and with good reason. the only people that seem not to like it are the ones who'd prefer a red lobster.

not what it used to be.... what was once a surefire standby for us locals has pretty much lost everything that once made it great. the friendly service and dependable food that was provided by gary and the rest of the crew is long gone. now overrun by tourists and your timeshare locusts, this hidden local getaway is just not what it used to be. id suggest a few other local places in lieu of seashack, but fear the tourist hordes will destroy them as well.

thumbs down. 1st time visitor to hh. we went to the sea shack based on local recommendations. the food was terrible!! 2 nights later, we went to the roasted fish and corn bread where we learned chef david had come to after leaving the sea shack. great food at the roasted fish and corn bread. don't waste your time - go to the latter.

sea shack missing david pains!. yes i know he has left but he left them with his imprint! just let them know how you feel and they will make an effort to provide what you need. they have some of the best fried shrimp...lightly fried and fish entrees. still a good buy for fresh seafood!

rude, used to be great. we have been going to sea shack for years, from the time gary and kelley first opened it through all the chef david years and beyond. when we went there this fall there were plenty of spaces in the parking lot (this is rare) and a few people standing around in front smoking and talking. we walked in looking for a line, most of the tables were empty. the owner asked if she could help us, we said we were there to eat dinner, and she told us to get back outside and get in line (didn't realize that was a line). very rude for a place that really is not as good as it used to be and frankly quite shocked that any restauranteur would ever be rude to a guest. no thank you. suggest sea shanty on hwy 170, owned by the original sea shack owners. one bite and you will remember how amazingly good sea shack used to be, with a menu that any sea shack regular is quite familiar with. or go to chef david's roastfish and cornbread on marshland road. chef david is the chef that put sea shack on the map.
