exceeded an epicurean's expectations. recently had dinner at this place and was thoroughly suprised at the experience. suffice it to say, that this restaurant is certainly a niche establishment in that, it will invariably appeal to a young, professional audience. it is refreshing to see a restaurant in the pittsburgh area that embraces and executes the type of dining experience it wants its diners to have.

service was spot-on--bartender for premeal drinks was attentive and friendly. server was mindful and i never once had to look for him to have my drink refilled or inquire about something in particular.

appetizer--mediterreanean plate consisiting of hummus, pita chips, olives, and various grilled veggies: light and well-portioned. excellent choice to wet the palate.

entree--chicken and waffles: waffles were airy, rather than pourous, sweet bricks and offset the perfectly fried chicken. of particular note was the batter that was used for the chicken--a lot of places tend to typically coat theirchickentoo heavily. savoy's batter is thin and allows the diner to really focus on thechickenand its marriage with the waffles.

will definitely be back.

best appetizer?. my girlfriend and i went to savoy last night for some "fine" dining. the place is beautiful, 5/5, but the food was not. first, our drinks although moderately priced were about as good as what you could get at a college bar in oakland. next, we tried pittsburgh's #1 appetizer, thechickensatays...i don't know who voted or who was cooking last night but the satays tasted likechickendipped in heavy cream. no flavor whatsoever. next i had the pork 3 way, once again the shoulder was bland, the ribs were ok, but the tenderloin with the apples was very good. my girlfriend had the lobster and scallop pasta which she was very pleased with. after dinner, we hoped that the desert would salvage this trip but to our dismay it did not. the chocolate peppermint patty with raspberry sauce tasted like a cake right out the freezer box. thankfully the tablespoon of sorbet cleansed the palate. if it wasn't for the groupon that we purchased, i would have been extremely displeased with the amount of money that it would have cost for a mediocre meal. if i ever go back, maybe i'll try the $25 dollarchickenand waffles.

birthday at savoy oct 1, 2011. well, i was very disappointed at my experience at savoy in the strip. the restaurant's dining area was smaller than what i had expected, but the ambiance was decent. i had been waiting for a special occasion to attend, and finally it was here, my birthday. so, i ordered the crab cakes (35$ a pop), and my date ordered friedchickenand waffles ($26 a pop). the fried chicken, which we assumed would be homemade, appeared to be from the frozen food section at giant eagle. i swear i have served thatchickento my children on several occasions. the crab cakes were small and tasted just okay. for that amount of money, i expected an amazing experience and it did not even come close. the only nice part about the experience was that the chef came out and said his hellos to everyone. it took about 45 minutes to get our meal, and it wasn't even that crowded. the upstairs lounge area was not inviting whatsoever. extremely disappointed, and i will not return, nor my friend who was visiting from out of town!! this is clearly a "status" location.

staff is very professional. free valet parking, food is great. love the cucumber watermelon martini's. i hadchickenand waffles and it was delicious. we had a party of 2 and the bill came to $99. this included 2 salads and 2 entrees. if you dont want to spend that much, you can certainly get lounge food (appetizers). it's a little pricey, but if you want to treat yourself, this is a great place to go.

my new special occasion spot!. myself and 3 of my closest friends arrived at savoy around 12;30 sunday afternoon and we were excited about the opportunity to experience it. the city has been buzzing for awhile about the delicious food and classy ambience so and we were not disappointed. we walked in and were immediately greeted by warm smiles and attentive wait staff. our entrees were amazing. three of us had thechickenflorentine : a deliciously crispy friedchickenbreast served over spinach with flaky biscuits and achickensausage gravy. the dish was amazing. another friend tried the flight of french toast and was delighted by the apple and banana compote that was paired with a thick, texas toast style bread. my french toast friend and i chose to add the omelet bar for a meager $4 (when purchased with an entree) and we were amazed by the selection. your choice of egg or just whites, cheese, raw and roasted veggies, crab, shrimp, andchickenmade choosing toppings extremely difficult but we worked it out. overall our experience was amazing and we will definitely be coming back again. i suggest an early reservation for sunday because it seemed to pick up once church let out (around 1:00-1:30). if you like trying interpretations of classics this is the place for you. i suggest it as a special occasion spot only because the entrees range from $13-$32 and if you're like the average pittsburgher you cannot afford to spend that kind of money on a regular basis. if i had to score savoy from 1 to 10 i'd definitely give it a 9.5 only because we had a couple of issues with our reservation not matching the date and time that was confirmed via email we actually ended up with three seperate reservations so i'd suggest checking and rechecking to confirm the reservations are correct.
