what a lot of beach bashers here!. people, again i say to you if you don't want to be around a cool, chill, and an otherwise relaxed environment filled with reggae music, beer specials, salt air, sun, and the cute girls of the salt life food shack then please stay your townie self on the other side of the "ditch" (intercoastal waterway)
and continue to eat at your country clubs and chain restaurants. excuse this, big love for the beaches, you too pvb. end rant...
aside from this, the shack is a fantastic place to hang out, have a beer and eat vac-a style food. the tropical yardbird sandwich is messy and good. the shack sauce with is a costa rican style amalgamation of ingredients any tico would be proud of is amazing. i know some complain about unwiped tables, young waitstaff, etc. but this isn't purported to be a "linen" napkin type of establishment. if you are elitist you may want to continue down a1a until you hit pussers (which is a great place, so don't hassle them) that is more your speed. ladies and gentlemen please bring your families and eat at the shack. i am a salt lifer all the way and i can appreciate these guys and their vision.

went there today for lunch. can't say i was impressed. the girls kept stopping to flirt with male tables. also noticed a lot of servers leaning against the wall while we had empty drinks. i guess if we a had a penis we would have gotten attention. there wasn't any seating so we were informed that we could sit a high top. well the tables were dirty. i figured with servers leaning on walls stuff would be cleaned. another problem was that servers hanging on each other at the computer. atbone point there were 5 servers gossiping at the computers. just not impressed

recommended!. food is very good. i had a fish sandwich. my friends had the backyard chicken and vegetarian sandwiches (best ever, she says). we shared an order of fries with shack sauce (delish). will definitely put salt life into the rotation. service was also very good. only problem is the music is too loud for conversation. we could not hear each other talk.

reasonably priced and high quality. we went for a saturday family lunch and enjoyed the atmosphere, prompt service and unusually high quality food for this price range. my wife got the fish tacos which were delicious and had just the right amount of spicy kick. i had the tuna melt on ciabatta bread (special) made with fresh tuna and we each added the roasted corn on the cob as a side. my two and four year old split one order of the chicken tenders and the total came to only $27 + tip. everything was well prepared and the food came out quickly. we will be back for sure.

bad service, average food. after giving this place two tries, we will not return. rude, unprofessional staff with very unexciting food. the bar is filled with a cast of characters ranging from the 45 y/o divorced woman who craves to be young again while seeking her 3rd husband, to the older beer gut men hoping to score with the 20 y/o hostess. aside from the scary customer base, who follow anything related to flip flops, jimmy buffet, or "the salt life", the service and food are below par. a great place for those who have low standards, which means most of the zip code. fried food, flip flops, & bad service. no thanks, will spend my money elsewhere.

popular local brand ventures into the restaurant biz (and it's good!). locals (or frequent visitors) to jacksonville are probably familiar with the salt life brand, or at least the ubiquitous windshield stickers. my wife and i were back in town visiting when a friend suggested that we try it.

i admit i was a bit wary of the idea, i've found that restaurants with too much "theme" usually rely on the image rather than the food. after dining there though, i was pleasantly surprised. the menu was very good across the board, the service was excellent (no small feat for florida), and the prices were good. it turns out this is a joint venture between the owners of the salt life beach shop and the harry's restaurant chain. inside it features a clean modern asian/ocean type vibe. lots of bright colors and flat screen tvs showing aquatic scenes or sports.
we stopped by on a monday night and took advantage of the $2 coronas, and sampled a few of the recommended appetizers. the raw oysters were excellent, plump with great flavor. also a sort of calamari ceviche mixed with seaweed salad was one of the standouts. the squid was tender and flavorful, not tough as is common with these types of dishes. the very popular "poki bowl" is also worthy of a try, cubed raw tuna and avocado served over sticky rice.
all in all we had a great time there, and would recommend anyone to give it a try.
