salt life food shack

disappointed... i was excited to finally be around the beaches area and knock this one of my list. however, if it weren't for its prime location, brilliant decor and "saltlife" in it's name, i don't know that thisplacewould be as popular as it currently is. our waitress was a little rude - the fact that she hardly made eye contact or even smiled at us was displeasing.

being surrounded by the beach ambiance, we wanted to stick with ordering seafood entrees. our first bite of the day was into the soggy calamari appetizer we ordered. maybe they were rushing and just made a mistake in cooking the dish correctly? so we had a couple bites, left the rest of it and sipped on our "salty margaritas" and killed the fries while we waited for lunch.

i received my soft shell blt sandwich and all i could taste was the "shack sauce" oozing out of every bite. i ended up just picking apart the sandwich and eating the bacon. also ordered, was the beach boil - my friend never complains about anything and even that to him was a disappointment. how could taking a variety of seafood and throwing it in a "boil" get messed up? seemed like every bite you took was like biting into old bay seasoning can.

i hope this day was just a bad one for them and i'm willing to try it again. even my boss who lives at the beaches always pumps thisplaceup! i won't make it a point to drive out to the beaches just for it, but if we end up with a group of people and that's what they choose, i'll try the non-seafood selections and get me a burger.

island theme, but island food?. being a frequent traveler of hawaii, i saw that thisplaceserved "poke." i was actually excited that i found this dish in jax. as i took the first bite i thought it was going to remind me of being back on the island, but no, usually it is a simple dish, but it had too much going on, some kind of marinade, a bit salty and the tuna didn't seem too fresh. at least the tea was good. pretty much just a bar that serves mediocre seafood. ho brah, nothing but haole da kine, shoots!!

a yuppy place. thisplacehas no idea what "salt life" is all about. only 1 waitress may have a clue. i ordered the nachos with shrimp and chorizo. there were maybe 4 shrimp on the nachos and the chorizo was in such small pieces you couldn't get a taste for it. the only good thing i can say is the beer was cold.

oh my goodness...... as soon as we walked in, we knew we chose a great restaurant. the environment was very inviting and the food was fantastic. we visited on a tuesday - the sushi special night. since we are from the north, we were striving for a great fresh seafoodplace- and we found it. the sushi was excellent - our favorite being the lobster sushi. the lobster boil was huge and satisfactory, however the tuna burger was not something i would order again simply due to taste preference (although the fried avocado slices were tasty!). we would not hesitate to visit again and would recommend to anyone.

salt life food shack is theplaceto be, especially when your servers name is jenn b! great atmosphere and the food and drinks are always good!

eh...would have had better food cooking at home. the wholeplaceneeds a makeover. like the idea but it just falls very flat. it's pretty much like going to any middle of the road chain restaurant (food, service, and atmosphere). better off skipping it.

anyone who don't like thisplaceobviously ain't local and don't know good food. thisplaceis boss and the food isn't cheap but it is serious grind and the chicks that work there are all tens and it is a goodplaceto catch a buzz and meet hot beach chicks. lots of
fine ass tattooed babes in the bar area if you go in the evenings. scored here multiple times.

you can only sheer a sheep once. these people think very highly of themselves. it was extremely overpriced. service sucked. in fact we couldn't even find her 20 minutes at a time. i asked about specials and the response i got was that the managers discontinued them. who doesn't offer specials? it was $120 for 2 dozen oysters 2 sushi rolls 3 beers and 2 mixed drinks. there were six locals in our group and we all decided we never go back. theplacelooks pretty cool but food is ok at best. my friend ordered shots for the table. he was so astounded by the price that he made the server split them up to everyone. never have i been out and had a friend order me a shot to make me then pay!!!! so disappointed. oh and there is nowhere to park either. the girls who work there are nice but they have zero clue about te service industry. i'll make sure to give my business to mellow

great food!. we love salt life and the soft shell crab and avocado fries are my favorite! we enjoy eating out on the patio. it is a friendly, funplaceto eata with friends!

nothing to write home about. very disappointed in the food at salt life, after hearing about thisplacefor years, we gave it a try and we will not be back. for a restaurant that is suppose to know seafood, it was not good.

my husband ordered the beach boil, and all it was some tasteless seafood in water! what happened to the seasoning, and he could not even eat the shrimp, they were so bad. i ordered the caliche's poke bowl and there was nothing special about it. the tuna was okay and there were maybe 4 pcs of spinach in the whole bowl.

glad we had a living social coupon, we will not be back.

salty life. my boyfriend and i went to salt life for dinner last night, and while theplaceis beautiful (fish tank!), we were disappointed in the service and quality of the food. our server was friendly, but she seemed a little inexperienced because she never refilled our water glasses. i ordered the boca-style fish sandwich and my boyfriend ordered 12 oysters and the shrimp & chorizo nachos. i liked the sandwich, although the french fries were very salty, and so were his oysters. he also didn't like the nachos because the chorizo didn't quite taste like chorizo. our salty margaritas ($2 on thursdays!) were mediocre, very diluted, and not very refreshing when coupled with salty food. we were happy that they were only $2, but we weren't very impressed.

import shrimp. love the atmosphere, service? meh. and my biggest prob with thisplaceis import shrimp are not in my salt life. support our local salt lifers, which are the hard workers bringing fresh mayport shrimp.

bartender decided to keep the change. owent to get 2 entrees to go and decided to sit at the bar since only 3 others were sitting there. bartender greeted me and took my order, then asked if i wanted to have a drink. i said water will be good. the food came out and he checked the order so there would be no problem. all was good i paid the $27.88 bill with a 20 and a 10. bartender took the $$ and went to the far side of the bar with his back to me. so i ask across the bar, "is everything ok" the bartender yells "yep!" without turning around. he then whispers something to the second bartender and the second bartender perks up and looks over at me like "yeah he is still there". i walk out. my point is doesn't the customer decide the tip? is it right for the bartender to take my change?

not all that good. thisplacehas a lot of sizzle- good looking wait staff- nice decor but showing signs of wear- men's bath room needs some work- the food is below average in the food department- it's mostly a seafoodplacebut there are so many better places at the beach for seafood - it's mostly aplaceto be seen and spend some money but status doesn't do anything for your taste buds- i do not recommend thisplaceas there is so many other places at the beach to go -

stay away or bring valium. i think this is a local gatheringplaceof bad parents. every time i go i have to wade through numerous children running aimlessly about while their parents ignore everything other than their wine and each other's jewelry... i avoid thisplaceas much as possible and actually make a point to poke fun at it any time i get a chance. the food used to be delicious and the interior decorating is very well done. if you agree with a passive approach to parenting, this is your place!
