disappointed... i was excited to finally be around the beaches area and knock this one of my list. however, if it weren't for its prime location, brilliant decor and "saltlife" in it's name, i don't know that this place would be as popular as it currently is. our waitress was a little rude - the fact that she hardly made eye contact or even smiled at us was displeasing.

being surrounded by thebeachambiance, we wanted to stick with ordering seafood entrees. our first bite of the day was into the soggy calamari appetizer we ordered. maybe they were rushing and just made a mistake in cooking the dish correctly? so we had a couple bites, left the rest of it and sipped on our "salty margaritas" and killed the fries while we waited for lunch.

i received my soft shell blt sandwich and all i could taste was the "shack sauce" oozing out of every bite. i ended up just picking apart the sandwich and eating the bacon. also ordered, was thebeachboil - my friend never complains about anything and even that to him was a disappointment. how could taking a variety of seafood and throwing it in a "boil" get messed up? seemed like every bite you took was like biting into old bay seasoning can.

i hope this day was just a bad one for them and i'm willing to try it again. even my boss who lives at the beaches always pumps this place up! i won't make it a point to drive out to the beaches just for it, but if we end up with a group of people and that's what they choose, i'll try the non-seafood selections and get me a burger.

went here for my birthday back in july with the goal of some seafood and a margarita.
outdoor seating was full at the time, so we sat at the bar instead. the bartender (i want to say his name was scott) was very welcoming and attentive.
for starters, we got the oysters on the half-shell and some avocado fries, which were fairly tasty and not so filling as to spoil an appetite.
my stomach had been acting up a bit, so i kept it mild with my entrée and got the caliche's poke bowl, which was a very generous size and hit the spot perfectly. fiancé got thebeachboil, which was also a hefty helping and he seemed to enjoy quite a bit.
of course, i also got my margarita fix with the elevated patron margarita. fiancé let slip at one point that it was my birthday and the bartender was sweet enough to offer the first drink on the house.
all-in-all, it was a very enjoyable dinner and we will definitely be back.

food was fair at best. visited jaxbeachwith a sparse restaurant choice and parked close to salt life ronan the mushroom place, so tried salt life. sat at the bar and listened to the bar tenders complain about having to wear jeans skirts the ordered the chokie bowl and it was poor at best. as an owner of multiple beachside restaurants /bars in fl a major bad review from me here.

salt life food shack jacksonvillebeachflorida. i am a golf professional in jacksonville/ponte vedrabeachfor 25 years. i have a background in cca restaurant management. i enjoy great food and great service on my short time off. i take all of my customers to salt life food shack for lunch. i've enjoyed the blackened wings since harry's. also, i recommend the poke bowl. before you and yours sit down, make sure casey, "the bartender," is working! he makes the best margarita i have tasted. you must sit at bar to experience his excellent customer skills. he knows the menu and can' recommend the perfect item on menu for even the plantation at ponte vedra members or jaxbeachmuniciple golfers. i could go on and on, but, i have to go teach children how to play golf. bucklowrygolf@yahoo.com

one of the best. this legend is one of the best restaurants in the jaxbeacharea, seafood or otherwise. the food is fresh and very taste, prices aren't bad, drinks, especially the bloody marys, are great. the decor is perfect for abeachrestaurant... beachy with a surf theme, but very clean. plus the waitstaff are really cute and so, so pleasant. when people visit from out of town, we always make sure to take them here and they always love it.

anyone who don't like this place obviously ain't local and don't know good food. this place is boss and the food isn't cheap but it is serious grind and the chicks that work there are all tens and it is a good place to catch a buzz and meet hotbeachchicks. lots of
fine ass tattooed babes in the bar area if you go in the evenings. scored here multiple times.

nothing to write home about. very disappointed in the food at salt life, after hearing about this place for years, we gave it a try and we will not be back. for a restaurant that is suppose to know seafood, it was not good.

my husband ordered thebeachboil, and all it was some tasteless seafood in water! what happened to the seasoning, and he could not even eat the shrimp, they were so bad. i ordered the caliche's poke bowl and there was nothing special about it. the tuna was okay and there were maybe 4 pcs of spinach in the whole bowl.

glad we had a living social coupon, we will not be back.

poor service but great food and atmosphere. seems to be the best reasonably priced restaurant jacksonvillebeachhas to offer. the food was excellent. the shrimp cerviche nachos are awesome as an appetizer. the ambiance is light and surfer cool. the service left a little to be desired (our appetizer, sushi, and entrees all came out at the same time) but i would still recommend a visit.

not all that good. this place has a lot of sizzle- good looking wait staff- nice decor but showing signs of wear- men's bath room needs some work- the food is below average in the food department- it's mostly a seafood place but there are so many better places at thebeachfor seafood - it's mostly a place to be seen and spend some money but status doesn't do anything for your taste buds- i do not recommend this place as there is so many other places at thebeachto go -

service was great, food was bad. my husband and i were hanging out at thebeachand wanted to get a salad somewhere. after reading the menu online, we decided to try salt life food shack. he had the baja chicken salad, which sounded awesome, but lacked flavor. i had the asian salmon salad. flavorful, but super oily. our greens were wilted when it was served to us as well. this is coming from two people who are not hard to impress when it comes to food, so for us to really dislike their food is quite a feat. we wouldn't go back.

beach atmosphere, decent food. after hearing a lot about salt life in the press and seeing the crowds that gathered there, i decided i had to give it a shot. my two visits were very similar: the vibe and decor were totally 'beach'. it is a laid-back restaurant with laid-back staff and laid-back customers. pluses: the food and drink prices are in line with the otherbeachtype restaurants that dot florida's coasts. drinks are in the $5 - $9 range and they have both happy hour and late night specials when drinks go for half price. along with typicalbeachfare like burgers, fish tacos, and shrimp (fried & grilled), salt life also features several dishes with an oriental twist. each night they offer different specials that are particularly attractive to the budget minded (check their website for details.) minuses: the wait staff was almost a little too laid back. each night we were there, our servers (who were very young) dropped the ball on several occasions. i had to make my way to the bar to order a second round of drinks because our waitress had disappeared for an extended length of time, items that we ordered had not been brought to the table and when this was pointed out, the items were brought but by then were cold, and on one night that was not very busy, the wait staff seemed to be lost in conversation among themselves and not terribly interested in the patrons. bottom line? the food was decent, but not remarkable; salt life seems to be more of a drinking and noshing establishment rather than a seafood restaurant. it's a good place on thebeachfor atmosphere, drinks, and decent food at a decent price (especially on the daily specials). i'll be back.
