we were excited to eat here but were passed over twice when waiting to be seated and so had front row seats to witness "mama's" inability to write down reservations correctly or ensure who she is seating under the reservation is the right party. as for the unreserved, don't expect to be seated according to when you arrived. as for our entertainment while we waited, we watched a busboy roll silverware and fill glasses of water for tables, no worries he rinses out the glasses with floaties. i'd prefer to not see who touches my silverware or fills my waters as i know some things cannot be helped in therestaurantenvironment.

delicious italian. a friendly atmosphere - always greeted by mama. consistent quality food (we've been about a half dozen times now). chef circulates to check in with diners. water always kept full. the calamari is excellent. our go-to place for italian. great to support a local, family-ownedrestaurantrather than a chain - that's why we just went there again rather than stop somewhere at the mall!

not much to complain about!. i made a 6 o'clock reservation. we arrived 5 minutes early and were seated fairly quickly. the dining room is quite small, the help was courteous. i believe the chef's mother is the main presence in the dining room - she is on the ball and attentive. the service was quick, drinks were quickly served and our server was friendly. the four of us ordered the seafood medley, lasagna, haddock bruschetta and the seafood cream pesto dish. i also ordered the calamari as a appetizer. the calamari came out quickly and was a very large portion for the 7.95 price. it was served with marinara and a poppyseed sauce. i've never had calamari with poppyseed dressing, but it was good. i would love to see that poppyseed dressing with a bit of spice, maybe some cayenne in it or horseradish (as a option since not everyone likes spicy) the size of the marinara could have been bigger. the calamari was sliced tubes only and was cooked well, although it could have been a bit crispier. he may make them himself as they were very tender and you usually get more rubbery calamari with frozen. overall it was tasty! next the salads. i really like arestaurantthat takes pride in their salads, it says a lot about the chef. the salads were of good size, had what looked like homemade croutons, nice tomato slices and olives. i do have one complaint. the greens where a tad wilted and room temp. i assume they have been sitting outside of the cooler for some time. one of our party members ordered the french onion soup. it was not your "normal" french onion, which was actually refreshing. the portion size was perfect, broth was flavorful and not overly salty. there was a couple small pieces of bread and some grated parm or romano cheese over it. it could have been melted a bit more, but it was easier to eat than your normal french onion that has gobs of melted cheese. the dinners were of good portion, i had the seafood pesto cream sauce with pasta. the seafood was cooked well, the scallops and shrimp were tender, the pesto cream sauce was flavorful and seasoned perfectly. the pasta was cooked perfect. the lasagna was nice sized with plenty of meat and sauce, the haddock bruschetta was great! nice big piece of haddock - flavors were good! seafood medley was great too, generous portions of seafood. the two dishes that had pasta were big enough where we had enough for another meal! overall? i'll go back!! the bill was under a hundred dollars for the four of us, dinners a app and 4 glasses of wine. love the prices! i think due to his low overhead/small dining room he can afford to serve awesome food in nice portions for less. i have seen many restaurants decide that want to grow and want a bigger place and in most cases i have seen the food suffer due to this (portion/quality/price) - i hope the chef continues to keep this in mind, because he has a winning combination right now. definitely call for a reservation!

wonderful!!!. we have been to otto tomato's about 4 times....tonight (a saturday) was our first weekend visit. while we were unprepared for the amount of people waiting to be seated, we knew how good the food/service has been, so we decided to wait. we had reservations for 7:30 p.m. and were told they were running late. anticipating a long wait, we were pleasantly surprised that the wait was only 10 or 15 mins. we were seated at a table in a very close corner. my husband was very uncomfortable. he asked our waitress if there was a chance for us to move to another table, and his request was immediately granted, even though therestaurantwas full. we were very impressed with the courtesy shown to us on such a busy night. as before, our dinners were prepared as requested, were absolutly wonderful, and our server was knowledgeable and friendly. good service, good food, wonderful wines = a great dining experience!! i am so glad we stopped in at otto tomato's on the spur of the moment a month ago because we found a wonderful place to dine!! thank you tim, his mom and dad and the wonderful staff!!

amazing food, amazing people!. we found this place on urbanspoon and after reading the stellar reviews decided to give it a try for my mom's birthday. happily, the great reviews were 100% accurate! all 5 members of our party (one in a wheelchair) agreed that the delicious food, fun atmosphere, and - most importantly - owners and staff combined to make this a new tradition. from the moment we walked in the door we were treated like family, and by the end of the night not only had the chef/owner stopped by several times to visit and talk with us, his mother ("mama") had as well. all involved were friendly and welcoming, even though my family and i had never been to therestaurantbefore. i can't say enough great things about this gem of a place - and i hope it's there for my family and i to enjoy for years to come. i highly recommend this for fans of tasty (and well-priced!) italian cuisine and a welcoming, family atmosphere. go now!

great little italianrestaurantthat is very cozy. we were seated right away, but you may want a reservation, because it's a small place and seems to fill up fast for dinner. they start you off with their warm bread, which is great and comes with a nice garlic butter. service was very fast and we got our salads fast. the salads were good, with great homemade croutons. as soon as we were finished our meals came. huge portions, so plan on lunch or dinner for the next day too. their chicken parm, and the sauce that goes with it were great. very warm and friendly atmosphere, with the owner constantly visible and asking if their's anything anyone needs. will definitely be returning.

tell your friends!!!. what a distinct pleasure! i originally went to see my old friend "mama tomotto". was i, and my party, surprised. the food is not to be missed. going to a newrestaurantcan be a little unnerving, especially if you've invited friends. have no fear- your friends will love you for it and it may well become their favorite. my favorite is the lasagna and my husbands' is the beans and greens with gnocci. whoever thought of that combo is a genius and with o.t.'s sauce it is fit for a king!

i am chef tim, owner and operator of otto tomottos. i just want to thank urbanspoon.com and all websites like it for the device they provide to bothrestaurantpatrons andrestaurantowners. often times customers will not tell us a problem at the time that they are our guests and websites like urbanspoon.com is how we find out about something we missed, something we can do better or that appreciated "good job" that can make our day!
we always at otto tomottos try to listen and learn, i am at myrestauranteveryday from the time i unlock the door in the morning till the time we all go home for the evening!
i am the chef/owner and spend most of my time in the kitchen, but please don't ever be hesitant to ask your server to speak with me, i always listen, i often learn and most of all i enjoy talking with all our customers.
thanks again urbanspoon.com for one more way to hear what our customers are
saying.

terrible!. i live around the corner from otto tomotto's and had been looking forward to dinner at a locally owned italian hot spot. there is always a crowd, so naturally i expected great things.

when my husband and i arrived, there were two open tables and a couple in front of us. we were told we'd be seated momentarily. it took them 25 minutes to bring us to a table. i don't mind waiting, they should have just managed our expectations a little bit. our waiter failed to give us a wine list. no big deal, we grabbed one from the empty table next to us.

i ordered the soup of the day, since it was chilly outside and quite drafty in the restaurant. i kept my coat throughout dinner. when it arrived, i was told it that i was "lucky" since it was the last cup of the day. however, it was freezing cold... and wasn't supposed to be. combined with the high salt level, i debated sending it back to the kitchen.

then our wine arrived. it wasn't opened at the table, the cork wasn't provided, and the label was completely ripped off. there were also wine drops down the bottle, which made me wonder if they had poured several open bottles into this remaining bottle. regardless, a bottle in this condition should have never been served at a restaurant.

our entrees were excellent. the food was full of flavor and the portions were generous. the service during the meal was poor. no one refilled our water glasses or asked us how our meals were.

while we were eating, we overheard the owner telling retard jokes. this is completely unacceptable in any setting, especially in arestaurantwhere your guests could overhear your stupidity.

based upon this experience, you couldn't pay me to go back. further, i was so upset that i'm writing this review... which i never do. otto's has some serious service problems that ruined our evening.
