old town italy

my girlfriend and i visited old town italy - menlyn maine this morning for breakfast.

we are sadend and shocked by the deteriation of the service of this restaurant.

we had our first date at this restaurant and therefore it would (maybe no more) be a special place to us.

a coffee and and juice smoothie took 15min to arrive after we placed our order.

our breakfasts (which was basically eggs) on toast) took over 40 minutes to arrive from the time we ordered.

the extra bacon i order was not prepared and served with our meal. which at this point i just requested the waiter to leave the bacon. who knew how long it would have taken the kitchen to cook bacon if eggs took 40 minutes.

i had to get up from our table to find the manager to ask him where our food was and what caused the delay.

the waiter did not once ask if we would like to order any other drinks, if the food was to our taste or if we are okay. neither did he did not offer any update or explanation for the delay in our orders.

as we were in a rush to meet other appointments by this time i requested the bill (check) when i food finally arrived at the table.

when we were done eating we had not received our bill yet and had to get up to find the manager to request the bill.

we are truly sadend by the deteriation of the quality of the service of old town italy menlyn maine.

the food was absolutely incredible! great portion size and tasted amazing and had a great presentation. the staff were excellent and the place was clean, great atmosphere.

my husband goonga and i visited old town italy for the first time this weekend! wow!! we love it! it is not only a restaurant but also a market full of homemade delectable goodies!

thank you for the vegan pizza! you made my day. fantastic crust, thin and very tasty. and wonder topping of tptv mince and cashew cheese. @theparttimevegan

had my first disappointing meal at
old town. the polpette aka the meatballs, were tasteless and watery and disappointing. my carpaccio and cheese board were outstanding!

bar staff are very slow tonight and loud! one has to wave like crazy to get their attention, when eating at the bar. even the waiters walking around are loud. food very nice.

very very dissapointing. table space was cramed and dissapointed that they do not even have dry lemon for with my gin. won't be back. compared to the breakfast experience a big let down. now even worse. did not have the wine we ordered in stock and when ordering an alernative red was brought a bottle of white wine and very slow service. then it gets worse. the tbone was well done and not medium rare and the rump was ice cold. sent back. guys you really need to get your act together.

check in this morning for an espresso, made with absolute, italian love, it was fantastic and the street cafe vibe, totally rocks, and the staff are friendly and efficient,
and made the the coffee stop, very memorable

although i’ve never been to italy, i do feel like i have when i am here. the staff are welcoming and friendly, they always make a great effort to make sure you are happy. the food is delicious, real comfort food but served so beautifully that you don’t feel guilty about the carbs!

i completely enjoyed my food, i’m impressed with their pasta dish because when you are an italian restaurant you deserve the absolute best.

their service needs more work, the staff is so friendly but not attentive enough. i asked for lemon water and my waiter passed my table at least 3 times and i still didn’t get the water.

i love how it feels like you are in a little indoor market when you are there. it’s such a relaxed feeling.

surprising to see this venue closes between lunch and dinner, certainly the food and excellent service would draw constant trade throughout the day.
the absolute highlight is the cheese deli - a wide range of cheeses you can order per slice, served with home-baked bread. worth revisiting!

finally got around to trying this absolute gem of a restaurant. fantastic decor firstly; literally italy in pretoria.

they have the best wine, beer, prosecco and non-alcoholic beverages on their menu. the starters were great; we managed to dig into some italian bread with hummus as well as arancini; both were perfect. the mains were great too; salmon pasta, pork sausage pizza and rump to be specific. they paid careful attention to everything including the presentation of the food as well as the portion size which i appreciate.

the show stopper would be have to be their dessert selection. please please have their amarula tiramisu and red velvet cake.

i guess my only reason for taking away one of the stars in my ultimate rating would have to be the quality of service. i feel like this restaurant needs more passionate individuals from a service standpoint; in an ideal world if they could combine this restaurant’s food with fireroom’s service; we would probably have a 5/5 restaurant on our hands.

nonetheless; i’ll be raving about this place to everyone i know

my family and i were super excited upon arriving at old town italy, on arrival, we were greeted and welcomed by a fairly polite waitress, not the best. asked to place an order and said that they were out of stock of chicken burgers?, thereafter placing an order and waiting approximately 35 minutes later had we received our food, a family member of mine ordered a pasta dish that contained lamb in it, which was extremely awful, there were chunks of fat in the dish and only flank/breast pieces of meat, when we had called the waitress she had claimed that "lamb is fatty", whereas lamb is a lean meat as apposed to sheep, the food was bearly touched and not edible at all, was not even offered a remake of the dish or given the option to chose another dish at a potion of the price as the dish ordered was r200. another family member of mine ordered a pasta dish which contained prawns, was extremely dry but edible. the worst part is when we were on our way home, a family member who had consumed the prawn pasta was in excruciating pain and thereafter serve diarrhoea. such food from such a highly rewied restaurant was not expected at all, extremely disappointed and a waste of money

we missioned across to old town italy last weekend from sandton in pursuit of an authentic italian foodie experience. this place exceeded expectations! what a surprise. a deli/bakery/shop and restaurant. the menu was expansive with a broad selection of italian delicacies. next time i will be sampling more of the appetizers. we opted for the prawn pasta and pesto chicken pasta as a main. huge portions and both utterly delicious. we ended off with a gelato from their deli. delicious! we will definitely be back.

not often in this area, i used zomato to find a restaurant for my wife and i before going to see bryan ferry. what an amazing find. a bustling, vibey and authentic italian feel that was complimented by amazing service and excellent food. i had the pizza and my wife had the melenzane parmigiana. both were great. looking forward to return and try some other delights.
