old town italy

i love the interior, deli and ambiance - went for lunch twice in the past month - first time disappointed as the lasagne was “out of stock” my husband then ordered ravioli and was served “zio’s pasta” he decided to eat what was served! the beef carpaccio was delicious and the waitress friendly.
the next time the lasagne was available but not at all juicy and cheesy as italians serve it, in fact it was tasty but dry.
our waitress - memory was attentive and friendly.
missing in this italianrestaurantis the presence of a real italian waiter or manager - haven’t seen anyone looking italian!
i will go back - even if only for the carpaccio and ambiance!

friendly staff, beautifulrestaurantwith imported products. their food is homestyle italian filling good quality for money food. their gelato...... i have no words. best i've had. i would definately go back for more.

ambience: as you walk into thisrestaurantyou experience a market type vibe with many cheeses, meats, artisanal breads, pasta, desserts, fresh produce and gelato (in other words absolute heaven 😍 & what i would expect italy to actually feel like!)

food: i opted to have the famous lemon chicken caper salad- the flavours in this dish were out of this world & i can definitely see why it is arestaurantfavourite. the pastas and pizzas also looked unbelievable & i will definitely return to try them. i shared the cheesecake with a friend & it was so creamy & lemony- delicious. eating at thisrestaurantis pricey but at the end of the day you are paying for the best quality.

service: our waitress was so friendly & helpful in suggesting the best mains/ desserts- the service was quick too!

conclusion: i'm definitely returning asap!

what a lovely spot in a great centre. i visited thisrestaurantrecently on a fairly cold evening but it was worth it. just walking around thisrestaurantto see all the different italian items you can buy from cheese to wine. there is an abundance of different and unique imported items that you do not see locally.

it is really not far to travel here if you are coming from joburg and definitely worth the journey.

the cheese board we ordered was very enjoyable as was my vegetarian pasta main dish. thr portion sizes are of a good size. don't forget to finish off your meal with a great desset, cappuccino or a creamy hot chocolate.

the service and ambiance here is great all round. i will definitely be visiting this branch or its sister branch in umhlanga in the near future.

if you are looking for some great, authentic italian food, you should definitely check this place out! the set out of therestaurantis beautiful, with a little market to purchase some goodies and desserts! the food is incredible and the drinks are very italian inspired! beautiful spot! you must be sure to try the cronut amd the conut with gelato!!

i walked into what i thought was a very tinyrestaurantto a mini italy in the middle of pretoria. therestaurantis huge.
i went on a friday night so as expected it was quite busy, we were put on the waiting list and started off with drinks at the bar. the bartender was the funniest, very talkative and his service was excellent.
to have something to nibble on whilst waiting for our table, i ordered the emmenthal cheese which was served with artisanal bread. the cheese was soft and delicious.
once our table was ready - in 15 minutes - we ordered our mains. i had the grilled filleto with mushroom sauce on the side. very tender and yummy. i wasn't feeling the rustic chips though. i had a bite of the lemon caper chicken. the zest of the lemon was on point. the couscous salad was very refreshing. the kitchen closes at 21:30, which is quite disappointing for a friday night.
and because i can never leave arestaurantwithout trying any of their craft beers, if they have, i had the citizen patriot light lager. loved it.
the service from our waitress was fantastic.
the hostess though, needs an attitude adjustment. she really didn't look like she wanted to be there.

we were greeted by the friendly gin cart outside the entrance. a fairly busyrestaurantbut attentive service. the cocktails are delicious with a bit of a kick. we ordered a pizza, cured meats and sides to share. overall a good experience. pay a visit to the bakery if ur in the mood for a treat.

therestaurantwas very very lovely, italian styled deco. the fact that therestauranthas a market makes the experience more enjoyable and unique.

the alcohol menu has many varieties of gin mixes so there's a lot to choose from. the pasta options are also extensive and gives you a lot of option to choose from

all in all the experience was a great one and i will definitely go back.

we didn't just eat at old town italy, we had an experience there.
the food was incredible! our table had a wide variety of different types of meals and across the board portions, quality, freshness was enjoyed (i definitely recommend the italian-style meatballs and polenta!)
the service was also great: the staff are well trained and professional, which can always make or break arestaurantexperience.

at first, i thought that the prices were slightly on the higher end, but i was quickly convinced of its justification through the standard and quality that our plates represented.

memories were certainly made.

rainy saturday already had plans to eat here so when they put me on the waiting list i was willing to grin and bear it and boy am i glad i did it. sat at the bar ordered a cappuccino to warm myself up as i waited, this gave me more than enough time to take therestaurantin, i felt like i was in another place that wasn't pretoria, the decor is stunning the vibe is alive and the service is friendly with lots of smiles to spare. when we eventually got a table, the food was delicious had the lemon caper chicken yummy yum yum. i can't oversell this place even if i tried. it was well worth the wait.

dysfunctional staff

thought we would get out of the house and enjoy a good pizza during lockdown.
there is poor front of house as this is arestaurantand shop setup. adding to the confusion is that there are two entrances . this place needs strong management to drive this bus !! we were basically ignored and we had to ask for a table and if we could have a meal. . all though fairly empty, staff pushed for time. pizza was good....

we were on the road for 7 hours and thought that a nice meal at old town italy would end a fantastic holiday. what a disapointment. when we enter there was no sanitizer available at the door..we asked one off the 5 staf members that was standing around for some and just got a mumble and pointed finger look inside . after walking around looking for a table no one came to help us. we asked the one lady why they dont help the clients the only answer was sorry and she walked away..this is the last time this place will ever see us again.
for arestaurantto treat there guests this way in the difficult times we are in you would think the waiters will jump to get as many customers in and keep them happy with service and safe covid protocol. the sad thing is we dined here many times before lockdown and always had great food and service .
i suggest you to sharpen your covid protocol and your service....no one can afford to loose customers today

thisrestaurantbrings me back to italy so much!!! literally feels like you’re in arestaurantin italy. this is a purely authentic italian basedrestaurantserving only the freshest and most home-made italian foods you can imagine, from pizzas and pastas to the most tastiest gelato you can find...the flavors are mind-blowing! oh and did i mention there’s a cute italian grocery store in the restaurant...only the best you can find. definitely one worth to try. it’s a bit pricey but definitely cheaper than going to rome for some authentic pasta.

my girlfriend and i visited old town italy - menlyn maine this morning for breakfast.

we are sadend and shocked by the deteriation of the service of this restaurant.

we had our first date at thisrestaurantand therefore it would (maybe no more) be a special place to us.

a coffee and and juice smoothie took 15min to arrive after we placed our order.

our breakfasts (which was basically eggs) on toast) took over 40 minutes to arrive from the time we ordered.

the extra bacon i order was not prepared and served with our meal. which at this point i just requested the waiter to leave the bacon. who knew how long it would have taken the kitchen to cook bacon if eggs took 40 minutes.

i had to get up from our table to find the manager to ask him where our food was and what caused the delay.

the waiter did not once ask if we would like to order any other drinks, if the food was to our taste or if we are okay. neither did he did not offer any update or explanation for the delay in our orders.

as we were in a rush to meet other appointments by this time i requested the bill (check) when i food finally arrived at the table.

when we were done eating we had not received our bill yet and had to get up to find the manager to request the bill.

we are truly sadend by the deteriation of the quality of the service of old town italy menlyn maine.

my husband goonga and i visited old town italy for the first time this weekend! wow!! we love it! it is not only arestaurantbut also a market full of homemade delectable goodies!
