visited mamasitas last weekend and had very high hopes after the rave reviews it has. must say the cocktails are great and look super prettyservicewas great staff were lovely and knowledgeable. my friend and i shared the feed me banquet and must say the food was good portions were smaller than i expected. however i had higher expectations for the flavours of the meals. still a good feed but a tad expensive for what you get.

long queue as ever. sometimes i am wondering why such long queue, there's a lot of restaurants that's better and short queue. is it worth the queue? imo, no. the highlight dish would be the plantain chips. the wings and octopus were delicious. the ox tongue quesadilla was spot on! i sat at the bar soservicewas excellent! a little pricey for what you get and very noisy place, hard for going on a date but will be fun for groups.

we attended for the world class cocktail week event pairing two modern and two classic cocktails with four mexican small bites.

firstly, the venue is cool. the food was tasty and reasonably sized for the price ($60pp for the event). the cocktails were interesting and well matched with the food.

however, theservicewas very selective. the hosts chatted to their friends and gave them great detail on the food and drinks, but pretty much ignored us. i had to google the cocktail ingredients to even learn what they were. we were also all seated on separate tables so the experience was a bit isolating rather than the collective fun food journey i've had at similar events.

i can't fault the food and drinks, but i would have expected more interaction and learning from a special event such as this.

the challenge reviewing mamasita's (and have visited a number of times over the years) is that my expectations are probably too high and difficult to live up to.  i do like mamasita's but not so much that i'd wait too long to get in.  i think part of the appeal is that there isn't a great many real competitors in this cuisine ; so it rates in it's space and i can understand why.  it's definitely solid, nice wine & cocktail selection, attentiveserviceand good variety to cater for the vegetarian, vegan, gf's. maybe it's the dishes i've had, but i feel that the 'spice' is a little missing. in my experiences in mexico / central america things can get hot! i know there is hot sauce on the table but that's not quite the same.  i think if you haven't been, it's definitely worth a go to make up your own mind, you won't be left unhappy for sure.. the question is more 'how' impressed you are.

a birthday celebration sadly at easter. so a group of 8, too for ever to get seated as staff milled around with not much to do. but we needed to wait for the host ... a wait of around 5 minutes.
seated. menus. drinks took too long.
drinking. order taking took too long
food was good ... banquet was a great blend of foods, extra chili in the side could have been good for those that like it hot
alcoholservicewas variable - some v quick and some painfully slow

ok. it was easter weekend. 15% surcharge hurt. but an eftpos surcharge on top of a surcharge was rich. theservicewas not that good!

super hidden little spot in the spring st end of collins st. so hidden you barely know it is there. head upstairs to discover the yummiest mexican food. very authentic. i had the chicken tostadas. complimentary corn chips with salsa and guacamole- delicious !! my tostadas had a great kick to them. so fresh. friends indulged in fish tacos and chicken tacos. also bit hits. staff were super friendly. work lunch soservicewas excellent also. will be back !!

in lurveeeee with the fish tacos and those corns ! mmmmm so delicious i mean it, fish tacos all the way!!serviceis great, staff is very friendly. this place is insanely busy especially during fri/sat nights. one negative about this place is probablh the price but i can shake it off because the quality of the food is yasss

stellarserviceand impressive food. a restaurant we've never quite made it to for dinner, we decided on a lazy saturday lunch, and the atmosphere was nicely low key. the beetroot tostadas were a standout, if a little colourfully messy. we had the duck carnitas, chicken wings, fish tacos, chilli garlic potatoes, and the helm riesling. the dishes were interesting and very tasty without being overbearing, and the portion sizes just right.servicewas fantastic, staff were friendly, attentive and just chatty enough - and offered to put my flowers in the cool room so they'd keep. a very enjoyable experience, would happily recommend mamasita for a casual meal.

amazing food, impecableserviceand great creativity in the drinks department.  chef martin is very, very talented and the staff are (very obviously) well trained in the finer points of hospitality.   

ps> i'm mexican - so i'm naturally cynical about mexican food outside of my home. this team exceeds any pre-conceptions of what mexican food outside of mexico might be.  in fact, the contemporary twist on classic dishes is not only more than welcome, it's a fantastic culinary experience!

with so many good reviews about the restaurant, we had high expectations.

we arrived 545 and the queues had started already. after waiting 20 min, we were seated. we had the corns which were sooooo good. literally best thing ever. we also had pork and fish tacos which were amazing too. my boyfriend really liked the goat tostada. i had the cured trout which was nice but wouldn't order again. the chicken wings were also amazing. the sauce was finger licking good! perfect combination of sweet, smokey and barbecue!

we also had a tequila flight which was interesting!

lastly theservicewas good and mid way through dinner they had live music for 10 min to entertain the patrons.

this place is great - great mocktails, great food, great service. the tacos are fantastic, and the staff are super friendly. my complaint is one that i found the stools up by the front windows my friend and i were directed to to be immensely uncomfortable. i couldn't find a comfortable position, and eventually gave up. i was planning on ordering dessert, but we eventually left and found somewhere else with proper seats.

i loved the food, and theservicewas great. but guaranteed i won't go back unless i can get a proper seat for a meal, and not a stool.

not going to review the usual items like corn cob because people have already done so hundreds of times! the mocktails are honestly the best that i've had so give those a go. the grapefruit fennel salad is also delicious, perfect for balancing rich flavours like the beef short ribs. food overall is very good and portions are on the small side.serviceis absolutely fantastic

would have been a perfect score but unfortunately they were unable to do the potato and chorizo quesadilla. loved the blackened chicken tostadas and was great that they were able to add a fourth portion for us. the tacos were also super tasty especially the pork.servicewas attentive and friendly and even though the line was all the way down the stairs we didn't have to wait more than 15 mins for a table.

went back to mamasita after a long time and came back super impressed with the experience. we ended up getting the banquet menu.the food was great as always with the standouts being the corn, the tacos (both the fish and butternut) and the sorbet!! even more impressive was the super attentiveservicewhere the food kept appearing at the right time as if on cue! the drinks were amazing as well and i loved the theatrics of the smoked old fashioned!

the food was well prepared and quite delicious, but to be frank, it's quite overpriced for what it is. it was also incredibly loud inside to the point at which it was impossible to hear my other guests. theservicewas friendly enough, though a little clumsy
