great vibe. good food. the scallops ceviche was outstanding - a definite must try. good cocktails too. the old fashioned was good so was the cucumber margerita. definitely try the salsa with chips. all the other items on the menu are finger foods. slightly pricey for the limited food options.

visited mamasitas last weekend and had very high hopes after the rave reviews it has. must say the cocktails are great and look super pretty service was great staff were lovely and knowledgeable. my friend and i shared the feed me banquet and must say the food was good portions were smaller than i expected. however i had higher expectations for the flavours of the meals. still a good feed but a tad expensive for what you get.

long queue as ever. sometimes i am wondering why such long queue, there's a lot of restaurants that's better and short queue. is it worth the queue? imo, no. the highlight dish would be the plantain chips. the wings and octopus were delicious. the ox tongue quesadilla was spot on! i sat at the bar so service was excellent! a little pricey for what you get and very noisy place, hard for going on a date but will be fun for groups.

we attended for the world class cocktail week event pairing two modern and two classic cocktails with four mexican small bites.

firstly, the venue is cool. the food was tasty and reasonably sized for the price ($60pp for the event). the cocktails were interesting and well matched with the food.

however, the service was very selective. the hosts chatted to their friends and gave them great detail on the food and drinks, but pretty much ignored us. i had to google the cocktail ingredients to even learn what they were. we were also all seated on separate tables so the experience was a bit isolating rather than the collective fun food journey i've had at similar events.

i can't fault the food and drinks, but i would have expected more interaction and learning from a special event such as this.

liked this place a lot. my wife and i had the feed me banquet. i liked each dish for its difference. the chips were awesome and the goat meat was insane. waiting staff were really friendly, the whole place just had this great vibe of a good restaurant. caramel dessert was prove the highlight

perfect for those late night feeds, mamasita is an upbeat joint filled with mexican goodies to spice up your night. no complaints about service, everything came out within reasonable time and staff were friendly too!

the challenge reviewing mamasita's (and have visited a number of times over the years) is that my expectations are probably too high and difficult to live up to.  i do like mamasita's but not so much that i'd wait too long to get in.  i think part of the appeal is that there isn't a great many real competitors in this cuisine ; so it rates in it's space and i can understand why.  it's definitely solid, nice wine & cocktail selection, attentive service and good variety to cater for the vegetarian, vegan, gf's. maybe it's the dishes i've had, but i feel that the 'spice' is a little missing. in my experiences in mexico / central america things can get hot! i know there is hot sauce on the table but that's not quite the same.  i think if you haven't been, it's definitely worth a go to make up your own mind, you won't be left unhappy for sure.. the question is more 'how' impressed you are.

all i can say is... wow! surprisingly only a 15 minute wait on a friday night - mamasita's definitely delivered. bold flavours, both spicy and sweet accompanied by a refreshing margarita as per the waitress' recommendation. the chorizo & potato quesadillas are a must try!

the wait staff are lovely and on the ball with drinks and asking how the food is .

nice ambiance ( quite dark ) the colour of the walls and romantic lighting i found a little different for a mexican type restaurant ,i was thinking it would be bright and very colourful . would be a a nice first date ! )
the table arrangement are very tightly positioned together and a bit loud at the end of our dinning experience ( we could still have a conversation though which is important )
we arrived at 5pm so no lines . filled up very quickly around 6pm .

the stand outs : corn on the cob , and the four cheese quesadilla , gf liked the vegetarian taco a lot also the smokey tequila margareta was ace . i would love to come back to try more of the tacos they were morrish . i had the fish ( grilled ) on the waiters recommendation , it was nice fresh fish flavour and perfectly cooked .

pretty spot on with the serving sizes , as after all it's really for sharing . (is not cheep though )
**only real negative was our popcorn on top of the corn flavoured ice cream it was stale and not salty or caramel flavoured enough .
the creme brûlée type desert was nice .

in total $60 each
two drinks each
one taco each (one fish one veggie )
one shared "vegetarian "quesadilla
one plate of three shared corn bite (veggie ) entree
two deserts to share .

overall would i come back ? yes
would i recommend: yes , come early !

a birthday celebration sadly at easter. so a group of 8, too for ever to get seated as staff milled around with not much to do. but we needed to wait for the host ... a wait of around 5 minutes.

drinking. order taking took too long
food was good ... banquet was a great blend of foods, extra chili in the side could have been good for those that like it hot
alcohol service was variable - some v quick and some painfully slow

ok. it was easter weekend. 15% surcharge hurt. but an eftpos surcharge on top of a surcharge was rich. the service was not that good!

mamasita is of the finer mexican restaurants in melbourne. we went for a work lunch on a random tuesday afternoon, but it was still very busy. despite this, the staff member was engaging, attentive and helpful when it came to our menu selections and how much to order for a big table. the popcorn ice cream dessert topped it off 👌🏻

first time here. didn't have a booking but was offered seating at the bar with full menu.
lovey food, friendly staff and very well priced.
definitely would be back to sample the tequilas

super hidden little spot in the spring st end of collins st. so hidden you barely know it is there. head upstairs to discover the yummiest mexican food. very authentic. i had the chicken tostadas. complimentary corn chips with salsa and guacamole- delicious !! my tostadas had a great kick to them. so fresh. friends indulged in fish tacos and chicken tacos. also bit hits. staff were super friendly. work lunch so service was excellent also. will be back !!

in lurveeeee with the fish tacos and those corns ! mmmmm so delicious i mean it, fish tacos all the way!! service is great, staff is very friendly. this place is insanely busy especially during fri/sat nights. one negative about this place is probablh the price but i can shake it off because the quality of the food is yasss
