great vibe. good food. the scallops ceviche was outstanding - a definite must try. good cocktails too. the old fashioned was good so was the cucumber margerita. definitely try the salsa with chips. all the other items on the menu are finger foods. slightly pricey for the limitedfoodoptions.

visited mamasitas last weekend and had very high hopes after the rave reviews it has. must say the cocktails are great and look super pretty service was great staff were lovely and knowledgeable. my friend and i shared the feed me banquet and must say thefoodwas good portions were smaller than i expected. however i had higher expectations for the flavours of the meals. still a good feed but a tad expensive for what you get.

we attended for the world class cocktail week event pairing two modern and two classic cocktails with four mexican small bites.

firstly, the venue is cool. thefoodwas tasty and reasonably sized for the price ($60pp for the event). the cocktails were interesting and well matched with the food.

however, the service was very selective. the hosts chatted to their friends and gave them great detail on thefoodand drinks, but pretty much ignored us. i had to google the cocktail ingredients to even learn what they were. we were also all seated on separate tables so the experience was a bit isolating rather than the collective funfoodjourney i've had at similar events.

i can't fault thefoodand drinks, but i would have expected more interaction and learning from a special event such as this.

my first time here , i had high expectations and were met :)
the wait staff are lovely and on the ball with drinks and asking how thefoodis .
***good vegetarian and gluten free options.

nice ambiance ( quite dark ) the colour of the walls and romantic lighting i found a little different for a mexican type restaurant ,i was thinking it would be bright and very colourful . would be a a nice first date ! )
the table arrangement are very tightly positioned together and a bit loud at the end of our dinning experience ( we could still have a conversation though which is important )
we arrived at 5pm so no lines . filled up very quickly around 6pm .

the stand outs : corn on the cob , and the four cheese quesadilla , gf liked the vegetarian taco a lot also the smokey tequila margareta was ace . i would love to come back to try more of the tacos they were morrish . i had the fish ( grilled ) on the waiters recommendation , it was nice fresh fish flavour and perfectly cooked .

pretty spot on with the serving sizes , as after all it's really for sharing . (is not cheep though )
**only real negative was our popcorn on top of the corn flavoured ice cream it was stale and not salty or caramel flavoured enough .
the creme brûlée type desert was nice .

in total $60 each
two drinks each
one taco each (one fish one veggie )
one shared "vegetarian "quesadilla
one plate of three shared corn bite (veggie ) entree
two deserts to share .

overall would i come back ? yes
would i recommend: yes , come early !

i loved the corn and the vegetarian quesadilla but the rest of ourfoodwas average for the price. our waiter was also extremely rude which ruined the whole experience which was a real shame as i loved this place. everything we asked was met with a blank stare and when i asked if the pork taco was spicy and his answer was "it's a mexican restaurant, everything is spicy". it turned out the pork taco wasn't spicy at all, actually most of the stuff we had wasn't spicy. the waiter was just lazy and rude and needs to find a new job.

🌮mexicanfoodwill never be the same for me anymore. this was hands down one of the best experiences i have ever had. huitlacoche (mexican truffle/corn mushrooms) quesadillas.
three-milk cheese, queso fresco, huitlacoche & mushrooms. yum! so crispy, crunchy and the cheese😯 full of flavour.
their tacos were amazing! we tried their pork and fish tacos.

first thing very friendly lady staff eleanor and the head chef. very good interior and ambiance.foodis not delay everything on time.

we order so much but i can't post all dishes here. but some of them beyond on taste, the tacos and desserts.

we just disappointed with their fish, may be the flavour's are missing on it.

over all its a good mexican restaurant to try in melbourne colin's street.

came into mamasita two nights ago with a few family members. lined up for about 5 minutes and then got told it was going to be a 30 minute wait, to which they suggested we go have a drink elsewhere and they would call us when a table was ready. about 45 minutes later we were finally seated at our table in a well lit, vibrant room.

we had a look through the menu and within 5 minutes everyone had decided on what they were going to get. the waiter came over and started taking our orders, but was not writing them down which was a little unsettling, especially with one of the 6 members at the table being gluten intolerant.

i ordered a 'tostadas - braised goat' as a starter which came as 3 potentially bite size biscuits covered with corn puree, heaped with braised goat and finished with a dash of coriander. they were delicious although the goat seemed a little dry if i was being picky. i then had ordered two tacos, one 'ox tongue & cheek' and one 'fish'. the ox tonge & cheek taco was delicious and perfectly portioned. the fish taco was a little bit disappointing as it was soggy  and fell apart as soon as i picked it up.

meanwhile across from me, the gluten intolerant family member had not received any of her meals. her quesadillas finally arrived, the 'chorizo and & potatoes' and thankfully it was gluten free as per request, however it was apparently cold and lacked flavour. the starter she had ordered still had not arrived so we asked the waiter, to which it promptly arrived. a plantain, probably the largest item on the menu and their version of nachos. very nicefoodbut i think she received a larger portion as the waiter who hadn't written our orders down had forgotten, as expected!

overall the meal was good and the atmosphere was great. will probably come back but not as a large group.

this place usually requires you to wait for a table though it is worth it! ensure you bring at least one buddy who likes to sharefoodbecause a little bit of everything is the best way to eat! it's lively, young and fresh and if you have a bar seat, don't be afraid to get to know the bartenders as they will recommend the best!

amazing food, impecable service and great creativity in the drinks department.  chef martin is very, very talented and the staff are (very obviously) well trained in the finer points of hospitality.

ps> i'm mexican - so i'm naturally cynical about mexicanfoodoutside of my home. this team exceeds any pre-conceptions of what mexicanfoodoutside of mexico might be.  in fact, the contemporary twist on classic dishes is not only more than welcome, it's a fantastic culinary experience!

i'm going to be controversial here and say i find mamasita very much overrated. hugely popular for at least three or so years now there's pretty much zero chance of waltzing in to be seated immediately unless you've arrived to dine quite early after work. one mojito almost knocked me out so they certainly don't skimp on the alcohol content but thefooddidn't really do it for me. maybe i'm just a basic b*tch but i don't want an ox tounge taco. i'm far more content with basic authentic mexican that's zesty and fresh. perhaps i'm used to the more commercialised interpretation of mexican cuisine but at the same time i don't remember seeing braised goat tostadas in mexico. i applaud the creativity in pushing the boundaries to deliver something unique and different but i'd personally prefer a hearty plate of nachos any day. maybe my expectations were too high given my friend i went with had raved about it. she was all we've got to get the corn but for me it was nothing revolutionary. just a cob with mayo on it for $5.60. in saying that i think the prices overall were reasonable but it just wasn't my bag

not going to review the usual items like corn cob because people have already done so hundreds of times! the mocktails are honestly the best that i've had so give those a go. the grapefruit fennel salad is also delicious, perfect for balancing rich flavours like the beef short ribs.foodoverall is very good and portions are on the small side. service is absolutely fantastic

after my initial first attempt failed to get in for dinner. i wasn't going to let the second time get me. we arrived bang on 6 and only had to wait 15-20 minutes. man this place is demand. people continued to line up after us and we were thankful we arrived when we did. the waitresses here were excellent, friendly and also really helpful in our choices. thefoodwas so fresh and delicious. we sampled toastadas, tacos, salsa and more. the setup of the place is fantastic with every little nook and cranny utilized. was also nice to sample some mexican beers. i'll need to come back as i definitely need to do the "feed me" option.
