my first time here , i had high expectations and were met :)
the wait staff are lovely and on the ball with drinks and asking how the food is .
***good vegetarian and gluten free options.

nice ambiance ( quite dark ) the colour of the walls and romantic lighting i found a little different for a mexican type restaurant ,i was thinking it would be bright and very colourful . would be a a nice first date ! )
the table arrangement are very tightly positioned together and a bit loud at the end of our dinning experience ( we could still have a conversation though which is important )
we arrived at 5pm so no lines . filled up very quickly around 6pm .

the stand outs :cornon the cob , and the four cheese quesadilla , gf liked the vegetarian taco a lot also the smokey tequila margareta was ace . i would love to come back to try more of the tacos they were morrish . i had the fish ( grilled ) on the waiters recommendation , it was nice fresh fish flavour and perfectly cooked .

pretty spot on with the serving sizes , as after all it's really for sharing . (is not cheep though )
**only real negative was our popcorn on top of thecornflavoured ice cream it was stale and not salty or caramel flavoured enough .
the creme brûlée type desert was nice .

in total $60 each
two drinks each
one taco each (one fish one veggie )
one shared "vegetarian "quesadilla
one plate of three sharedcornbite (veggie ) entree
two deserts to share .

overall would i come back ? yes
would i recommend: yes , come early !

mamasita, melbourne cbd, cuisine- mexican. this is no doubt one of the best mexican places in melbourne. innovative dishes but keeping the mexican flavours intact, seasonal menu give you a reason to visit again and again. one constant is theircornand as yet i haven't found another dish getting even close to this one. they started thecornrevolution in melbourne for sure. great vegetarian options, lovely drinks and desserts and a great location what's not to like. they do get very busy so getting there early on a weeknight is recommended. one of my favorites in the city. give it a try if you haven't already. swipe right for more photos. let me know in comments how you liked it and which other restaurants you want me to try! #rating4.5 #lovebeingavegetarian #igersmelbourne #melbournecbd #collinsst #mexican #cornisthebest #loveit #vegbourne #melbourne #vegetarian #vegetarianrocks #lovefoodlivefood #melbournebesteats

i loved thecornand the vegetarian quesadilla but the rest of our food was average for the price. our waiter was also extremely rude which ruined the whole experience which was a real shame as i loved this place. everything we asked was met with a blank stare and when i asked if the pork taco was spicy and his answer was "it's a mexican restaurant, everything is spicy". it turned out the pork taco wasn't spicy at all, actually most of the stuff we had wasn't spicy. the waiter was just lazy and rude and needs to find a new job.

came into mamasita two nights ago with a few family members. lined up for about 5 minutes and then got told it was going to be a 30 minute wait, to which they suggested we go have a drink elsewhere and they would call us when a table was ready. about 45 minutes later we were finally seated at our table in a well lit, vibrant room.

we had a look through the menu and within 5 minutes everyone had decided on what they were going to get. the waiter came over and started taking our orders, but was not writing them down which was a little unsettling, especially with one of the 6 members at the table being gluten intolerant.

i ordered a 'tostadas - braised goat' as a starter which came as 3 potentially bite size biscuits covered withcornpuree, heaped with braised goat and finished with a dash of coriander. they were delicious although the goat seemed a little dry if i was being picky. i then had ordered two tacos, one 'ox tongue & cheek' and one 'fish'. the ox tonge & cheek taco was delicious and perfectly portioned. the fish taco was a little bit disappointing as it was soggy  and fell apart as soon as i picked it up.

meanwhile across from me, the gluten intolerant family member had not received any of her meals. her quesadillas finally arrived, the 'chorizo and & potatoes' and thankfully it was gluten free as per request, however it was apparently cold and lacked flavour. the starter she had ordered still had not arrived so we asked the waiter, to which it promptly arrived. a plantain, probably the largest item on the menu and their version of nachos. very nice food but i think she received a larger portion as the waiter who hadn't written our orders down had forgotten, as expected!

overall the meal was good and the atmosphere was great. will probably come back but not as a large group.

fifth visit and this place never disappoints. thecornis still a classic, and the tacos (especially fish) are amazing. the 'three milk' dessert wasn't the greatest, but still ate the whole thing!

i'm going to be controversial here and say i find mamasita very much overrated. hugely popular for at least three or so years now there's pretty much zero chance of waltzing in to be seated immediately unless you've arrived to dine quite early after work. one mojito almost knocked me out so they certainly don't skimp on the alcohol content but the food didn't really do it for me. maybe i'm just a basic b*tch but i don't want an ox tounge taco. i'm far more content with basic authentic mexican that's zesty and fresh. perhaps i'm used to the more commercialised interpretation of mexican cuisine but at the same time i don't remember seeing braised goat tostadas in mexico. i applaud the creativity in pushing the boundaries to deliver something unique and different but i'd personally prefer a hearty plate of nachos any day. maybe my expectations were too high given my friend i went with had raved about it. she was all we've got to get thecornbut for me it was nothing revolutionary. just a cob with mayo on it for $5.60. in saying that i think the prices overall were reasonable but it just wasn't my bag

not going to review the usual items likecorncob because people have already done so hundreds of times! the mocktails are honestly the best that i've had so give those a go. the grapefruit fennel salad is also delicious, perfect for balancing rich flavours like the beef short ribs. food overall is very good and portions are on the small side. service is absolutely fantastic

we tried several dishes here from thecornappetizer, the goat tostados, the ceviche and pork tacos..

everything was good and can't say anything bad about the dishes.. but personally what would make me willing to go back and wait in a queue are dishes that have flavors that i haven't tried in other restaurants..

and in this case my two standout dishes that would keep me coming back are thecornand the ceviche.

thecornwas topped with cheese, a sauce and spices that made me want to find out their recipe so i can try and replicate it.. and the ceviche was a welcome shift to have something refreshing and light before going into our main meals.

overall was a happy dining experience for the price we paid :)

overall: 4.5/5
food: 4.5
value: 4
service: 5
ambience: 4

we decided to celebrate our anniversary at this fancy bar-like restaurant located near parliament station.

you walk up to a romantic well-designed space with friendly staff who are quick to seat you down and fun to chat with. the dining was buzzing with chill vibes filled with couples drinking and laughing the night away. the only complaint would be it was a little dark to see what we were eating.

we ordered the feed me banquet for two, since we don’t have mexican cuisine much and we’re excited to get adventurous. be warned, as the banquet can be very filling, even though my partner and i have big appetites.

firstly, they offered some tortilla chips to start off with. we could tell they were freshly made, and everything was perfect like any basic nachos. this was, however, not on the list of out feed me and had no idea until we paid, but nothing to complain about when it was yummy!

the dishes i really enjoyed and would recommend from the feed me banquet were: ceviche, shellfish tostadita, quesadilla and any of their larger dishes.

the ceviche and shellfish tostadita is what i will be coming back for - these were to die for. the fish were so fresh, and the addition of the tangy citric flavours made the dish not only fresher but more explosive in the mouth.

the restaurant created the tastiest thing i had ever had that now whenever i go to any mexican restaurant, i have to order quesadillas. the quesadilla is made up of a yummy goat’s cheese, with caramelised onions, corns and pork chorizo, drizzled with a spicy kick of spicy mayo. there was so much going on, but the elements all blended well together, almost as if i was eating a burger!

the pork tacos were just as delicious, with the well seasoned pulled pork, and the pork scratchings giving that crunch, and the chilli and herbs giving that freshness and kick.

thecornwas really buttery, and the addition of the lime and chipotle mayo was a heavenly combination of flavours executed well.

i loved their main dish, which was a slow cooked beef with an abundant amount of some rich beefy sauce and some peanuts, which worked really well together. the beef, however, was slightly tough and dry, which wasn’t enjoyable compared to the other dishes that dealt more with raw ingredients.

the mexican tomato rice, however, was a let down. i wasn’t sure whether the hard undercooked rice was a mexican feature, but it was very bland. the only thing i enjoyed on that dish were those sweet potato crisps.

by the time we got on the rice, my partner and i were very full, which could mean my opinion for the rest of the dishes may be skewed. we got a nice sweetcorn icecream with caramel popcorn to finish the night, but i was too full to enjoy, but the popcorn did taste slightly chewy.

this is a very late review and some dishes may not be available anymore, however, the unique experience of mexican cuisine is truly worth it at mamasita. i will be coming back with friends to enjoy their drink options and finger-licking dishes.

came here on a weekend with a booking, we were running late but i was very happy with how the staff waited for us and didn’t try to rush us.
thecornwas good, although i regret not gettingcornon the cob.
we ordered a serve of all the different tacos and surprisingly we enjoyed the ox tongue the most!( not expecting it) the fish and calamari and pork were quite standard and it didn’t feel too different to where i’ve had it before.
however we did not enjoy the pineapple punch as much😢
everything else we were happy with.

i really love this place. i've been here a few times and it never disappoints. we arrived around 3.30pm, just before it started to get busy, so we were seated quite easily. we ordered thecornchips and guacamole, the fish tacos, andcornon the cob. the fish tacos were cooked to perfection, although i felt it had slightly too much cabbage. thecornwas a highlight, definitely a must try! this place is worth queuing up for, i will keep coming back.
