i went there several years back in their original location and enjoyed it very much. at the new place for our anniversary, my wife and i were a little disappointed. it displayed an added touch of elegance but much of the former intimacy and excellence was gone. we had a personable waiter who was knowledgeable and attentive, and everything went smoothly for a while. our wagyu skewer appetizer was simply superb. my wife chose the beef wellington and i had the dry aged ny strip steak. when it arrived mine was greatly over cooked and my side of creamed spinach was cold (this is pure neglect). the waiter promptly took both back for rework which took a while. my wife was uncomfortable but ate hers while i sat there: not a good way to spend an anniversary meal. the beef wellington was average at best, with mushy meat and soggy pastry. the other sides: brussels sprouts and potatoes au gratin were piping hot, fresh and very good. when my order arrived the side was hot and very good; the meat was still a little overcooked but acceptable. it showed no characteristics of the rich flavor usually associated with dry aging and came without garnishes or seasoning. i think they must use low grade meat and wonder how some of the other reviewers reported juicy flavorful meat for the same steak. the complementary anniversary dessert of french crème brûlée was excellent with a good crust.

the evening was still enjoyable but my wife thought it was clumsy. we probably should have received some rebate instead of only "thank you for your patience." if this had been a lesser star restaurant it might have been fairly acceptable. however, for a high endsteakhouse that charges top dollar they should get it right. i think many there are well trained and try hard but others are lacking something. if you go there for a five star experience you might get it or you might not. just be prepared. rating: reduced by the top dollar prices, a few snafus and mainly thesteakto two stars.

killen's used to be our special occasion destination. sadly no longer...partially our fault for not sending back an undercookedsteakbut something was altogether off... scallops, tomato salad, and sear onsteakwere not what we experienced on our first visits. cheese in macaroni seemed processed. overall we were disappointed. $200 dinner for two should be memorable in a positive way.

what a letdown!!!. as good as the bbq restaurant is...the steakhouse is that bad. very loud, very close tables, very long wait after ordering food. in fact longer than the line at the bbq restaurant.

the asparagus appetizer was armored in batter. took some effort to cut. about 25% of the asparagus was inedible, and all of the batter was inn inedible.

thesteakwas a hugh disappointment. very dry yet the middle was bloody red...not exactly medium as ordered. i took thesteakhome and finished cooking it in my heb charro beans the next day.

go to rudy and pacco's in galveston and get a good meal.

went there for my husband's birthday with our children to celebrate. i wish we would have eaten there before we chose it for a special occasion. if you have never been there i'm sure that you have had this experience somewhere else. picture a really small restaurant with a awkward floor plan ( the dining room is really small with a whole bunch of tables shoved into it then a very small area was divided with a make shift wall- lattice or something to that effect.) in which the small area is crammed full of tables. the divided small area you have to squeeze threw to get to the rest room. the tables are so close together that when getting up from the table you have to either bump the guest sitting behind you with your chair and squeeze out or hold it. the restaurant is so smallyou can see everything from the front door- the kitchen, their refrigerators, all the tables and guest even the bathroom door.) all from first glimpse from the front door. ok so i will move on to the food. you will see more reviews about soups, salads, & appetizers and sides for this place for two reasons they're pretty good ( my favorite was the tuna tacos) and they are more affordable. my husband ordered the house special it was a 32oz with a what they call a dry rub ( ordering beef there or listening to them explain exactly how eachsteakwas different and of coarse why and all the history behind that is like going to basking and robbins for chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and them having evening but that then you have to listen to them go threw each flavor and its description and why its better than chocolate chip cookie dough.) ok so don't be intimidated by the 32oz its a lot more bone than meat. i had the 16oz dry rub rib eye... mine was sweet his was smokey. they bake they're steaks not grill. mine was dry his was moist. they noise from other tables was out of this world because it really cramped up and of coarse people drinking bottle after bottle of wine things tend to get louder. i had my children in there with me so me and my husband got upset when table right across from us started getting really rowdy and vulgar. the staff (two of them) where cutting up with them. the manager with just walking around getting people their water etc he would look over during the next histerical outburst and laugh. we asked one of the servers if they could keep it down our kids were with us he said not a problem y'all are about threw with it i will box it up and not to worry he understood ( this was at the beginning of our meal) . so if you go and like the place great if not sorry. good luck i hope better experiences for every one.

80th birthday dinner. never so disappointed in my life. i don't mind paying thru the roof for good food, but thesteakwas tough, the waiter disinterested, didn't acknowledge the birthday, had to flag him down to get a refill on water. i do say, however, that the cream corn is to die for. thank goodness i found the receipe on another site so i will make it at home. if you really want top of the linesteakand service, try taste of texas on the katy freeway. just my two cents.

great meal. first off, the creamed corn is ridiculously good. i mean, that is the amazing highlight. thesteakwas good, but this was the thing i keep trying to replicate in my kitchen, and failing. just wow. that stuff in a can ain't got nothing on this cheesy corny goodness. delicious.

beet and goat cheese salad was good, i was trying to eat the plate when i was done. my filet had a perfect texture, without any stringyness or hard chew, the flavor was nice but mom's new york was more flavorful - though not as soft and tender. the potatoes were standard fare, i just had a bite before devouring the creamed corn.

the vesper of the night was good, but not as good as haven's. less aromatic and not as nicely balanced.

birthday dinner gone bad. i don't know who is reviewing this restaurant but the food is awful. the lettuce in the caesar salad was not chilled properly and the dressing was very salty. my girlfriends kobe beefsteakwas tough and cooked at the wrong temperature. thesteakfries and they were in a pool of grease. inexcusable. the creamed spinach was also salty and awful. the waiter kept praising the chef like he was a demi god.. . everything i ordered was awful except for the jack daniels, the warm bread, and the dessert which was out of sight. my compliments to the dessert chef.

needs a second try. i went with a small group recently. it does look unprepossessing from the outside, but is very nice on the inside and a wonderful smoke aroma permeates the rooms. the bread they give before you eat is great, but thesteaki got (dry-aged ribeye) was actually a little tough and grisly. i expect fat on a ribeye, and it was perfectly cooked and had good flavour, just not as tender as i would want for the price. everyone else i was with raved at their steaks. the sides (asparagus, baked potato, mushrooms and sweet potato fries were good, although the potatoes au gratin was pretty ordinary. i'll have to try the center cut kobe next time. sorry, but we didn't try appetizers or desserts.

don't let the outside looks fool you!. it looked like a plain mediocre place from the outside, but on the insideis a wonderful 5 star restaurant. i was completely underdressed and casual, of course with no reservations, but they took my hubby and i anyway. the food was the very best i have ever tasted! the sight of the asparagus made my mouth water, the taste was
magnificent! my husband'ssteakwas to die for! we've been twice. now mind you, this is a special occaision place for us, it is pricey, but well worth it!

birthday ruined. we tried to go to killen's for my birthday friday night. we called for directions. the woman who answered the phone told us to take 288 to 35 and turn right, then go past 518. well we saw signs for angleton and called the restaurant, and were assured we were going the right direction. we kept heading south, called again, and again were were assured we on the right path. we finally found hwy 35, off of 288 and went right as we were told. i called a friend for directions then and found out is was 30 miles back the way we came off the beltway. we then called for a manager, i believe paul, who was unsympathetic to this hour and a half tour we had taken because the person who answered the phone, clearly did not know where she was or how to get there. we went to flemmings since it was close to 10 when we got back to the beltway. we left the house at 8. thank you killen's for making me spend my evening driving all over the place. i sent an email and it was never answered. i think customer service is the first place you start, clearly killen'ssteakhouse has none.

bad manaagement-bad waiter-bad experience. we made reservations 2 weeks in advance for our 30th wedding anniversary. my in-laws had tried the restaurant about 3 weeks ago and couldnt stop talking about it. we had to wait abut 15 minutes for our table to be ready. we ordered the crab cake appetizer, and the crab was good but the shrimp was fishy tasting. next was salad and french onion soup. the soup was cold, and we had asked for bread when the soup was brought to the table. we never got a chance to complain about the cold soup, as we never saw the waiter. the bread was finally brought once the soup and salad dishes were removed-not what we had in mind, but it gave us something to do during the extended wait we had until our steaks arrived-at least 30 minutes. all 4 steaks arrived cold, and had obviously been sitting undelivered for at least 15-20 minutes. one ribeye did not look or taste right, and we told the waiter it was a sirloin strip. when the manager came over we told him that all the steaks and the 2 potato sides were cold. he disappeared to get a tray, and finally took the food back to the kitchen 10 minutes later. imagine our surprise when he returned with a fresh replacement for the suspect ribeye, and the other 3 original steaks. the 3 steaks were still cold, and had been sitting under heat lamps for the past 30 minutes. since it was a special occasion and we were not alone we chose not to make a bigger deal of the situation. the filet was overcooked, the edges tased funny and were not eaten. the porterhouse was cold and tasteless. the manager seemed surprised that we expected fresh hot steaks. he eventually took off two of the steaks off the bill, but it was still expensive for bad service, cold, heat lamp heated steaks, and cold side orders at $7 each for some less than impressive potatoes (thesteakfries and roasted potatoes). overall we were there 2 1/2 hours, and did not have dessert (and it wasnt offered), and couldnt wait to leave. it took them 20 minutes to process the check and payment. i even had to ask for a mint to get the taste out of my mouth, and the waiter looked for some. save the drive to pearland and enjoy yourself in the luxury of v*i*c & a*n*t*h*o*n*y*s downtown. same prices, awesome service, much nicer surroundings, and good food.
