it is consistently good but the service is slow & the sushi needs to be wrapped tighter.

i have been informed that there will not be ikura, or salmon roe, stocked regularly at kanpai....although it is on the menu. unfortunate, as it is one my favorites. this is my second trip here following the change in ownership/management. as long as you don't have a hankering for ikura, you will probably like kanpai; but..."caviar emptor"!

best sushi in evansville. the sushi is amazing! and i can't go with out getting an order of crab rangoon. seriously the best i have ever had. however if your in a hurry i suggest ordering carry out. its much more time efficient.

some of the best sushi and some of the worst service. i have been there 5 time and every time i go i say i'm never coming back because of the service. they are very suck up and rude but the food is good and not to expensive.

thumbs down. i have been to kanpai three times in the last year. only once have i eaten, the two other times i have got up and left to to extremely poor service. both times the server was very rude and extremely slow, the restaurant was not busy in either case and the servers did not seem overwhelmed with tables.
most recently, after waiting over 10 minutes just to have our drink orders taken we politely asked if we could order. the server rudely spat "we'll be right with you" after she had already taken an order from a table next to us that was seated after us. we politely left.
food is fine, service, rude and inattentive.

after eating sushi all of the world... kanpai is one of the best. creative menu, quality ingredients,and excellent atmosphere.

it is a small cozy place with good food and sushi. the lunch bento box was a good amount of food for a reasonable price. since its small if it is crowded you may have to be patient. call ahead isn't always reliable.

amazing drink specials (they had $1 carsons bottles, and $2 craft beer bottles when we were there!), edamame was warm and salty like it should be, egg rolls were some of the best i've ever had. we had three different sushi rolls, all of which were fantastic. 1 was a volcano which was solid, another came with jalapeno slices on top and was absolutely phenomenal. (request this one, can't remember the name!)

place is a bit small but it's a cool atmosphere. definitely recommend!

delicious sushi, loved the beef bulgogi, and the tempura zucchini appetizer was really good. the service was excellent even though the restaurant was very busy. it is a small place with an energetic atmosphere. a very good craft beer list, unusual for an asian restaurant. and four sake choices. we tried it because we love ckb, in henderson, ky (same owner) and we'll be back. we found the staff to be very friendly.

we had good service, decent food. but the place is too small and cramped. the food is overpriced. for a cheaper meal with food just as good, there are other places in town to visit.

service seems to have improved. maybe because there is a lot less people than there used to be compared to a few years ago. the problem is that the portions are still small and expensive. probably the best tasting sushi in bend as in they make good sushi rice and make a great sauce on some of the rolls. just expect about $80 for two.

the sushi was okay, but i have eaten there twice and was completely disappointed by the food both times. first, bulgogi without banchan or even kimchi? what?! long grain white rice! what?! over cooked dry sesame chicken! yuck. the miso soup is good and salad was okay. the atmosphere is terrible. the restaurant is small and so loud you can't here the people at your table. i spent the last attempt at this poorly thought out restaurant listening to the horrible cackling of a women a few tables over. it's not worth returning.

get the bento lunch special. you get a crazy amount of food with quite a bit of variety, and the price is very reasonable. i'm definitely a "little-bit-of-this and little-bit-of-that" eater, and the bento special is perfect. you can get a small salad, sushi, and a hot meal for about $9.
ps love that these guys are at almost every fundraising event we attend. thanks for giving back to the community!
