kanpai

big artistic thumbs up.. i have eaten at kanpai since jason took over-and have never had a bad experience. as a free-lance writer, it is a great place to write, watch and interact with other customers and staff, and is laid back as well. food is excellent, and the staff will do whatever it takes to make your experience what you need. to go drinks, menu suggestions, etc. whether i have a quick 20 minutes to eat, or an afternoon to sit and work, i always feel welcomed, unrushed, and leave feeling better than when i arrive. a jewel in evansville for sure.

at at kanpai tonight. as usual the good was tasty and the service was great also. my favorites are the egg rolls and crab rangoons. i had lettuce wraps today. the portion size was generous and full of flavor. every time i have eaten there has been great!!!

never again. obviously the people that work there are not very happy being there.
very rude customer service. the restaurant is too small and cramped, and the tables are dirty. i looked up at the ceiling and saw cobwebs and water damage and all they do is paint over the tiles. it's obvious why they have the ceiling in loss of dark to cover up the filth!
the females that work there are rooting cocky not worth a dime of my money!

gone downhill!!. i used to eat at kanpi sushi all the time when i lived in bend two years ago, it was super good!!! i just went back this week while visiting...expecting the same level of satisfaction. not at all!!! it was awful! sloppy rolls! i'm not sure where all the good chefs went..but the quality of the good has gone way down! i will never return!

pleasant atmosphere, had the king kong roll it was awesome.. very clean and well priced.. some of the best service i've had in a while, my coke was never empty...

sadly disappointing. i love eating at ckb and i was hoping that kanpai would be just as fantastic. i was not very impressed though. i will probably stick with eating at zuki instead.

the vegetable spring rolls were a horrible disappointment. i was very excited that there was a vegetarian version of spring rolls in a town where most of the food comes with meat. there were too many noodles and the wrapper was overly heavy and difficult to eat.

the pho was also sadly underwhelming. it tasted like beef stew not at all like pho i have had in big cities at vietnamese restaurants.

my husband enjoys sushi and was also not impressed the few times he has ordered it here. it was generally warm and not very fresh.

the two redeeming qualities were the crab rangoon which were so good i think i could eat them as a meal and the cookie dough egg rolls which were chocolately and gooey and delectable.

loved it!!!!. so... i ate here for the first and second time today. yes, i went back. it was that good and i honestly wanted to make sure that i had tried a few different types of sushi before forming my opinion. it was amazing. the service was great. they were friendly and fast! good customer service is hard to come by these days and i was super impressed! the food was amazing! see the menu items i have tried for reccomendations! amazing! will def. be going back. yeps.

raise the damn bar. good sushi in evansville is hard to come by and this place definitely does not have it. kanpai is the definition of americanized japanese food. i asked for my sushi roll to be remade then watched as the manager who was on duty remake the roll which ended up being worse than the first. miso soup tasted like it was made from condensed. nothing about kanpai felt like a really good sushi or japanese restaurant but they sure do charge like one! definitely still worth the drive out of town for great sushi! last, i got a free dessert for complaining. deep fried cookie dough sounded great ... oh man my stomach hated me for a couple days.

pho done wrong.. please change the name of your "pho". it is not pho. you use the wrong type of noodles, broth and slice of beef. pho doesn't have cubed beef. it has thinly sliced rib-eye. the fusion influence of this dish is uninspiring.

great dining & service!. we have been going to kanpai since it opened in 2005. the staff is always friendly and the sushi is spot on. the chefs are talented and well trained whether you get fish from the bar or hot food from the kitchen. desserts are always creative and delicious.

best sushi in evansville hands down!!! quality is 11/10, price is comparable to the other places in town and chuck norris brings the fish in daily...
