service seems to have improved. maybe because there is a lot less people than there used to be compared to a few years ago. the problem is that the portions are still small and expensive. probably the best tasting sushi in bend as in they make good sushi rice and make agreatsauce on some of the rolls. just expect about $80 for two.

big artistic thumbs up.. i have eaten at kanpai since jason took over-and have never had a bad experience. as a free-lance writer, it is agreatplace to write, watch and interact with other customers and staff, and is laid back as well. food is excellent, and the staff will do whatever it takes to make your experience what you need. to go drinks, menu suggestions, etc. whether i have a quick 20 minutes to eat, or an afternoon to sit and work, i always feel welcomed, unrushed, and leave feeling better than when i arrive. a jewel in evansville for sure.

raise the damn bar. good sushi in evansville is hard to come by and this place definitely does not have it. kanpai is the definition of americanized japanese food. i asked for my sushi roll to be remade then watched as the manager who was on duty remake the roll which ended up being worse than the first. miso soup tasted like it was made from condensed. nothing about kanpai felt like a really good sushi or japanese restaurant but they sure do charge like one! definitely still worth the drive out of town forgreatsushi! last, i got a free dessert for complaining. deep fried cookie dough soundedgreat... oh man my stomach hated me for a couple days.

delicious, fresh, finest sushi in town. i'm very particular about what restaurants i'll eat at because i'm a classically trained personal chef. i love kanpai, it's one of the few evansville restaurants i frequent. this is because everything is fresh (owner told me mostly organic produce, grass fed beef, wild caught fish) and flavorful! i cannot stress how delicious it is, and it's because they believe in quality and flavor! they have agreatbeer selection (over 30 beers, craft and domestic) and good wines (great selection of $15 bottles). they also have the best crab rangoon we've ever had. we've lived in cincinnati, louisville, now evansville, and still, they have the best crab rangoon... i'd say hubby and i are connoisseurs. as far as sushi goes, they create tasty, creative rolls like the c.b. roll (yellowtail, scallions, cucumber, mayo, crunch, tobiko) and they have by far the best spicy crab roll! i don't know what they do, but it's magical. the atmosphere is so cool, very hip. they have live music sometimes and craft beer tastings! they're an absolute gem and i am on board with their philosophy on food: fresh, pure, and unprocessed tastes so much better! (plus side: it's better for you!)

so, so, so, so, good!!!!. wow, just went tonight.... i had their two specials for the night. first off, the crab cakes. let me tell you, they are the best i have ever had. almost completely crab, with a light breading. they come with twogreatsauces. next, and my favorite, the pow pow shrimp. at least 15 huge rock shrimp in tempura batter and tossed in a creamy and tangy sauce over cabbage. wow... and for only $9.95. i felt like i owed them at least $5 more for it. my wife and daughter had the general tso's chicken. best in the city. along with $2 flat top ale's from our own state's, nobleville, in. this is a gem in evansville.

had agreatexperience..... went for lunch today. food was great. started with crab rangoon. it was freshly made with lots of filling. outstanding. we then had our miso soup. very good broth and the green onion was fresh and crunchy. it had tofu, which is tradtional in the soup. we then got our main course. i got the beef and vegetables and my wife shared the teriyaki chicken. both were outstanding. i also got a half order of the sob sushi. it was delicious. the cilantro added so much to the tuna, jalapeno, and onion roll. plus the domestic beers are only $1 a bottle on saturdays. only complaint was they gave me a dirty glass for my beer and it was cold in the place. they quickly gave me a clean glass, and since the place is small, not much they could do about the temp when the door was opened since it is such a small place. i will definately return. good price too.

kan pai used to be a small, quiet japanese restaurant with good food andgreatsushi. it was my favorite sushi in town because of the godzilla and tiger rolls alone. the colorful old lady that used to run it ended up selling it and now it is under new management. the menu changed along with the owners and so did the atmosphere. i would still get take out sushi after the change but recently they got new sushi chefs and sadly, the best sushi in town is no more. an unfortunate case of new management coming in and changing everything for the worst. they probably make a lot more money under the new management but not from their old devoted customers.

everything is great, you can't go wrong.. i've been going to this restaurant for a really long time, and i've liked it even when the service and the management was terrible. i now work there under the new management of jayson munoz and i've watched the restaurant come full circle from what it used to be. same sushi, same food, completely new experience. the interior has been greatly renovated for a better, newer atmosphere. if you're looking for a smaller, more intimate, and higher quality driven place, kanpai is the place to go. since i've worked there i've tried everything on the menu and everything is great. you simply can't go wrong with anything on the menu. if you like it spicy, there are wonder spicy entrées. if you don't like raw fish, we have plenty of cooked sushi rolls. everything we make is fresh and made by hand. i've rolled the egg rolls, i've rolled the spring rolls. i've wrapped the crab rangoon. we make everything by hand from quality ingredients. we buy organic meat. we take custom orders and do whatever we can to please you. since we know we're small, we make every customer experience agreatone. most of our customers are people that come back often and have rarely, if ever, had a bad experience. try us out, i know you'll love it. i still love to eat there and everything i've ever ordered has been great.

i dream of kanpai.... i've eaten sushi at a lot of places, and i haven't had anything that compares to kanpai. apparently the owner studied under a sushi master in hawaii that would scold his apprentices for dropping even a grain of rice!

try the broiled tomato or gone-jah roll.greatsake list (love the 'blue bottle sake") and consistently excellent service. highly recommend.
