some of the best sushi and some of the worst service. i have been there 5 time and every time i go i say i'm never coming back because of the service. they are very suck up and rude but thefoodis good and not to expensive.

it is a small cozy place with goodfoodand sushi. the lunch bento box was a good amount offoodfor a reasonable price. since its small if it is crowded you may have to be patient. call ahead isn't always reliable.

we had good service, decent food. but the place is too small and cramped. thefoodis overpriced. for a cheaper meal withfoodjust as good, there are other places in town to visit.

the sushi was okay, but i have eaten there twice and was completely disappointed by thefoodboth times. first, bulgogi without banchan or even kimchi? what?! long grain white rice! what?! over cooked dry sesame chicken! yuck. the miso soup is good and salad was okay. the atmosphere is terrible. the restaurant is small and so loud you can't here the people at your table. i spent the last attempt at this poorly thought out restaurant listening to the horrible cackling of a women a few tables over. it's not worth returning.

get the bento lunch special. you get a crazy amount offoodwith quite a bit of variety, and the price is very reasonable. i'm definitely a "little-bit-of-this and little-bit-of-that" eater, and the bento special is perfect. you can get a small salad, sushi, and a hot meal for about $9.

big artistic thumbs up.. i have eaten at kanpai since jason took over-and have never had a bad experience. as a free-lance writer, it is a great place to write, watch and interact with other customers and staff, and is laid back as well.foodis excellent, and the staff will do whatever it takes to make your experience what you need. to go drinks, menu suggestions, etc. whether i have a quick 20 minutes to eat, or an afternoon to sit and work, i always feel welcomed, unrushed, and leave feeling better than when i arrive. a jewel in evansville for sure.

sadly disappointing. i love eating at ckb and i was hoping that kanpai would be just as fantastic. i was not very impressed though. i will probably stick with eating at zuki instead.

the vegetable spring rolls were a horrible disappointment. i was very excited that there was a vegetarian version of spring rolls in a town where most of thefoodcomes with meat. there were too many noodles and the wrapper was overly heavy and difficult to eat.

the pho was also sadly underwhelming. it tasted like beef stew not at all like pho i have had in big cities at vietnamese restaurants.

my husband enjoys sushi and was also not impressed the few times he has ordered it here. it was generally warm and not very fresh.

the two redeeming qualities were the crab rangoon which were so good i think i could eat them as a meal and the cookie dough egg rolls which were chocolately and gooey and delectable.

loved it!!!!. so... i ate here for the first and second time today. yes, i went back. it was that good and i honestly wanted to make sure that i had tried a few different types of sushi before forming my opinion. it was amazing. the service was great. they were friendly and fast! good customer service is hard to come by these days and i was super impressed! thefoodwas amazing! see the menu items i have tried for reccomendations! amazing! will def. be going back. yeps.

great dining & service!. we have been going to kanpai since it opened in 2005. the staff is always friendly and the sushi is spot on. the chefs are talented and well trained whether you get fish from the bar or hotfoodfrom the kitchen. desserts are always creative and delicious.

i love the atmospher everyone is very friendly, i have been here 4 times now and on each visit i was greeted with a smile, the servers ask if i have questions about anything, they are very informative and overall thefoodis so amazing! the owner greets you and asks how your experience was, love this place highly recommend!

so, so, so, so, good!!!!. wow, just went tonight.... i had their two specials for the night. first off, the crab cakes. let me tell you, they are the best i have ever had. almost completely crab, with a light breading. they come with two great sauces. next, and my favorite, the pow pow shrimp. at least 15 huge rock shrimp in tempura batter and tossed in a creamy and tangy sauce over cabbage. wow... and for only $9.95. i felt like i owed them at least $5 more for it. my wife and daughter had the general tso's chicken. best in the city. along with $2 flat top ale's from our own state's, nobleville, in. this is a gem in evansville.

had a great experience..... went for lunch today.foodwas great. started with crab rangoon. it was freshly made with lots of filling. outstanding. we then had our miso soup. very good broth and the green onion was fresh and crunchy. it had tofu, which is tradtional in the soup. we then got our main course. i got the beef and vegetables and my wife shared the teriyaki chicken. both were outstanding. i also got a half order of the sob sushi. it was delicious. the cilantro added so much to the tuna, jalapeno, and onion roll. plus the domestic beers are only $1 a bottle on saturdays. only complaint was they gave me a dirty glass for my beer and it was cold in the place. they quickly gave me a clean glass, and since the place is small, not much they could do about the temp when the door was opened since it is such a small place. i will definately return. good price too.

american style asian. we went at lunch time and all though the place is very small and a table was immediately available it took a long time to get ourfoodand myfoodcame out before my companion'sfooddid, so being polite, myfoodwas cold by the time theirs was served. allfoodnot coming out at the same time is my biggest pet peeve and the thing that prevents me from returning. the salad dressing is very good. the chop chai and chicken w/vegetables was average. the chicken in both dishes was very dry and tasted to me like something that was cooked the day before. the sushi was good. i may return for sushi or soup and salad, but not when i'm on my lunch hour. i was late getting back to work.

kan pai used to be a small, quiet japanese restaurant with goodfoodand great sushi. it was my favorite sushi in town because of the godzilla and tiger rolls alone. the colorful old lady that used to run it ended up selling it and now it is under new management. the menu changed along with the owners and so did the atmosphere. i would still get take out sushi after the change but recently they got new sushi chefs and sadly, the best sushi in town is no more. an unfortunate case of new management coming in and changing everything for the worst. they probably make a lot more money under the new management but not from their old devoted customers.

yum yum. such a cute hip place and thefoodis great! the service is excellent. the manager will go out of his way to make you feel at home. we even celebrated a graduation there even though the lights were out from a tripped fuse during half our dinner. try the crab rangoon and the yum yum roll.

love kanpai. just had it today and i think they have the best handmade egg rolls in town! godzilla roll amazing and the seared ahi tuna amazing! kt the server was friendly and i got myfoodquickly! the decor has changed too, and it looks a lot more clean and modern.

i'll be back for ladies night on wednesday! live music and $8 bottles of wine! cant beat that!
