kanpai great sushi, drinks, & service. i just went back after a 4 year absence to kanpai and what a surprise.the decor is clean and modern. it has great sushi for a great price! awesome beer/wine selection and specials. reasonable great daily specials. i like the spicy tuna & sob roll and seared ahi tuna!!!
they have the best handmade egg rolls in town! our server miki was friendly and attentive, made great suggestions, and kept our drinks filled and made the visit special. my guest said we should ask for her next time...

had the spider roll, the rice was mushy and somewhat tasteless! i also had pho soup, beef was tough and broth was overpowering! would not recommend this to anyone

just finished eating and overall i wasn't impressed. im the first person to admit im a sushi snob but their rice was flavorless and their beer inventory isn't offered on a list-its above peoples tables so you can't see it without being super awkward.

worst of everything. i don't even know where to start. the "hostess" seemed annoyed customers had come in to interrupt her leaning on the bar. our waitress was horrible. the sushi was the worst we've ever had, and overpriced. i really want to know if anyone else out there has ever had spicy scallops made with hot sauce.
bottom line eating at kanpai is the worst way to spend any of your time or money

great atmosphere. make a reservation, the place is small and cute and eclectic, so you can wait a while without a reservation. sushi is good, very americanized with lots of mayo and fried, would like to see more veggies/fruits involved. good beer list, good house wine. will come back for sure.

delicious, fresh, finest sushi in town. i'm very particular about what restaurants i'll eat at because i'm a classically trained personal chef. i love kanpai, it's one of the few evansville restaurants i frequent. this is because everything is fresh (owner told me mostly organic produce, grass fed beef, wild caught fish) and flavorful! i cannot stress how delicious it is, and it's because they believe in quality and flavor! they have a great beer selection (over 30 beers, craft and domestic) and good wines (great selection of $15 bottles). they also have the best crab rangoon we've ever had. we've lived in cincinnati, louisville, now evansville, and still, they have the best crab rangoon... i'd say hubby and i are connoisseurs. as far as sushi goes, they create tasty, creative rolls like the c.b. roll (yellowtail, scallions, cucumber, mayo, crunch, tobiko) and they have by far the best spicy crab roll! i don't know what they do, but it's magical. the atmosphere is so cool, very hip. they have live music sometimes and craft beer tastings! they're an absolute gem and i am on board with their philosophy on food: fresh, pure, and unprocessed tastes so much better! (plus side: it's better for you!)

sob roll rocks. great flavor! great atmosphere and packed on a wednesday night which is typically unusual. owner even came out to meet me as a "1st time customer" and bought my 1st roll.

so, so, so, so, good!!!!. wow, just went tonight.... i had their two specials for the night. first off, the crab cakes. let me tell you, they are the best i have ever had. almost completely crab, with a light breading. they come with two great sauces. next, and my favorite, the pow pow shrimp. at least 15 huge rock shrimp in tempura batter and tossed in a creamy and tangy sauce over cabbage. wow... and for only $9.95. i felt like i owed them at least $5 more for it. my wife and daughter had the general tso's chicken. best in the city. along with $2 flat top ale's from our own state's, nobleville, in. this is a gem in evansville.

had a great experience..... went for lunch today. food was great. started with crab rangoon. it was freshly made with lots of filling. outstanding. we then had our miso soup. very good broth and the green onion was fresh and crunchy. it had tofu, which is tradtional in the soup. we then got our main course. i got the beef and vegetables and my wife shared the teriyaki chicken. both were outstanding. i also got a half order of the sob sushi. it was delicious. the cilantro added so much to the tuna, jalapeno, and onion roll. plus the domestic beers are only $1 a bottle on saturdays. only complaint was they gave me a dirty glass for my beer and it was cold in the place. they quickly gave me a clean glass, and since the place is small, not much they could do about the temp when the door was opened since it is such a small place. i will definately return. good price too.

american style asian. we went at lunch time and all though the place is very small and a table was immediately available it took a long time to get our food and my food came out before my companion's food did, so being polite, my food was cold by the time theirs was served. all food not coming out at the same time is my biggest pet peeve and the thing that prevents me from returning. the salad dressing is very good. the chop chai and chicken w/vegetables was average. the chicken in both dishes was very dry and tasted to me like something that was cooked the day before. the sushi was good. i may return for sushi or soup and salad, but not when i'm on my lunch hour. i was late getting back to work.

kan pai used to be a small, quiet japanese restaurant with good food and great sushi. it was my favorite sushi in town because of the godzilla and tiger rolls alone. the colorful old lady that used to run it ended up selling it and now it is under new management. the menu changed along with the owners and so did the atmosphere. i would still get take out sushi after the change but recently they got new sushi chefs and sadly, the best sushi in town is no more. an unfortunate case of new management coming in and changing everything for the worst. they probably make a lot more money under the new management but not from their old devoted customers.
