jerome bettis' grille 36

not just for jocks. i was pleasantly surprised on 3 recent visits to grill 36.
let me mention that i am in no way a sports fan. in fact, i usually find a bunch of lunkheads staring the picture right off the tube and yelling like animals offputting. so, when i was taken to grill 36, i expected the worst. i was surprised.
though definitely a sports atmosphere, theservicewas excellent (bar) and product selection excellent. menu even reaches beyond what i'd expect for a sporty chain joint.
if you're not a black and gold fanatic, be prepared. i wouldn't attend on "important game days", but that said, a mid-week stop would be great, and i understand the happy hour is quite good.

jerome would be happy, mostly. the restaurant was not very busy on a friday afternoon, so i sat at the bar. the bartender, brie, was attending to several customers, but when she did finally reach me she was very polite and attentive. she asked for my first name and, to my surprise, addressed me by name the entire 30-45 minutes i was seated at the bar. whether this was her idea or the restaurant's, it was a nice touch.

the food came promptly...well, too promptly. i ordered a turkey burger and fries, and the food came out much quicker than i've ever been able to cook a turkey burger, which indicates that they already had some prepared or were in the process of preparing some when i ordered. nonetheless, the food tasted good. i'm sure there are more expensive items on the menu; however, based on the proximity to heinz field and the jerome bettis name, i was extremely surprised at how reasonably priced my meal was. plus, the quality andservicewere both very good.

one complaint: as a jerome bettis fan, i was highly disappointed that they did not have any 36 jerseys in stock.

i was pleased with everything about this place.  the location, theserviceand the food.  it was walking distance from everything.  my hotel was across the street from the baseball stadium pnc park, this restaurant was two blocks from there on the waterfront and the football stadium, heinz field was directly across from this restaurant.  i had the deep fried cheeseburger.  when it was delivered, it was not what i imagined, but it was soooo much better than anything i could have imagined.  the entire burger, bun and all are battered and deep fried.  this burger is half heaven and half heart attack at the same time, but you have to try it.  i also had the loaded mac and cheese instead of fries and that was a lot of food.  i could not finish the mac and cheese, but i certainly finished the burger.  service at the bar was great.  check out the men's room (men), i have never seen a restroom like this in my life.  i will not spoil it for you.

terrible menu. my husband and i recently stopped here on a thursday night. i have not been in a long time except to grab a beer before a steeler game last year, when it was packed. one of the four hostesses standing at the desk recommended the bar area, we accepted until we realized there were tvs in the dinning room as well. i wanted a beer and i was told by the server that they had 36 on tap, but no list to offer, just asked me what i like. i understand that they probably change a few of them, but maybe have a base list and a seasonal list.
the menu was sad to say the least, the descriptions of the food were awful, we sat staring at the menu for a while before ordering a steak salad and a burger. i was especially disgusted by the "chef specialties" one of them was actually called "the garbage plate". i get that it is a sports bar, but the atmosphere suggests that they would have a decent menu. we were the only ones in our dinning room, there was a large party in the next room. our food came out rather fast, but my husbands burger was burnt on one side and my salad had a bunch of chunks of meat on it. it was tasty but i had to do a lot of cutting, before being able to eat it.
theservicewas good, and i have to mention that the staff was attractive, and it seemed like a clean place, except for the boxes of straws and other supplies all over the counter, next to us, ironically on top of a bunch of cabinets.
not somewhere i would go back to, and i will definitely not be recommending to clients visiting pittsburgh, not the impression i would want to give them of our great city!
they could use a visit from chef ramsey!

turkey burger. the turkey burger tasted very good. would have been excellent if it was cooked slightly less. loved the toppings and lemon mayo. the fries that accompanied the burger were delicious unfortunately they only give you around six.servicewas very good. drinks are a little pricey. very nice outdoor seating area along the river.

great location. crappy food. ordered 5 of the same mixed drink, only one came to the table made correct, food was ehh, andservicewas mediocre at best.

gathering. oct 25th we had 25 people at the restaurant. theservicewas outstanding! tiffany, our host, was so warm and welcoming. i felt like i visited the restaurant daily. our two young servers were fantastic. everyone made the evening so smooth for us and fun. they interacted. food and drink great! i will be back.

absolute worst! rude, unprofessional and just gross. can't even take 2 seconds to wipe the big grease spot off my plate? wtf...i got 3 different rolls of horrid looking silverware.probably the worstservicei have had in the city. not to mention mediocre food. if i were jerome bettis, i'd be begging to have my name taken off the building. never again.

bettis grille 36. outstandingserviceand excellent food. handled our son's food allergy requests with no problem. wonderful waiter-chris- who was fun, courteous, attentive and made great drink and food recommendations.

average food, high prices. this is your typical high profile athlete sports bar. been to many of these such as larry csonka's in florida and micheal jordan's in chicago. this is one of those places you can say you've been to but probably won't frequent too much. the food is good but not outstanding.servicewas good at the bar and bartender always had a nice big smile. but $5 for a domestic draft beer pint is a little rediculous. it's almost like sitting in heinz field!

grille 36 the best!!. the food is reasonablely priced and always great. the customerserviceis exceptional, especially brittany: she made us feel very welcome,she was very helpful about the menu items and recomended some favorites and we really enjoyed the pretzels. she is the absolute best.thanks for the tour
we enjoyed everything about jerome's place from the moment we walked in .no trip to pittsburgh is complete until we visit grille 36!!

awesome staff, great times!. we go to jerome bettis' grille 36 several times a month and yet to have a bad experience! no matter how busy the bar is, whether there is a home steelers or pitt panther game, a show going on at stage ae etc, we always get excellentservicefrom the bartenders, especially kia and amanda! they are our most favorite bartenders in the city and we look forward to seeing them everytime we're there!

not a fan of bettis' seems over priced for average quality food.servicecould be better. if i'm hitting up the north shore bettis' will be my last choice of places to go.

another amazing experience!. i stopped into the bettis grill with my husband to grab some dinner before the alice cooper concert last night. our server, austin, actually took care of us the last time we were here and were seated at the bar. once again he was a delight! after suggesting a few interesting local beers, we enjoyed his suggestion of the edamame as an appatizer. it was excellent, and a large portion for the price. the remainder of our meal was equally pleasant, and complimented with the superbserviceand great location, there isn't another place we'll go before an event on the north shore!
thanks for never disappointing us with the food, atmosphere, and service! we will definitely be back!

a bit disappointing. came in around 9 pm. modest crowd but we called ahead a few minutes on our way there and were told that we'd be seated immediately as there was no wait. when we walked in spoke with the person at the desk, she said "wait a second" and we stood around for about 10 minutes before somebody came to seat us meanwhile the person we spoke to was ranting to another server without paying us any attention. once we finally were seated, our waitress was very nice and recommended dishes but didn't seem to know much about the drinks. my brother ordered a seasonal sangria only to be told they did not actually have it, nor could she tell us at the table if the other sangrias were being served.

in total, we ordered a steak, a few burgers, and a shrimp dish. the steak was cooked well and juicy but the shrimp dish was bland and none of the 3 burgers we ordered were cooked at all the way they were ordered. the well done burgers were red inside, even more red than my medium well burger. french fry portions were a bit smaller than i expected for a similar burger-and-fry plate at another restaurant but they were above average in terms of flavor and texture.

the bathrooms were so dark they might as well have just saved the electricity and shut the lights off altogether.

my food was enjoyable but nothing to write home about while the other dishes in my party were hit or miss. i would likely give this place another chance because ourservicewas pretty good.
