jerome bettis' grille 36

not just for jocks. i was pleasantly surprised on 3 recent visits to grill 36.
let me mention that i am in no way a sports fan. in fact, i usually find a bunch of lunkheads staring the picture right off the tube and yelling like animals offputting. so, when i was taken to grill 36, i expected the worst. i was surprised.
though definitely a sports atmosphere, the service was excellent (bar) and product selection excellent. menu even reaches beyond what i'd expect for a sporty chain joint.
if you're not a black and gold fanatic, be prepared. i wouldn't attend on "importantgamedays", but that said, a mid-week stop would be great, and i understand the happy hour is quite good.

nothing special. i have been here to watch some games and it's nothing beyond okay. it has outdoor seating on the river which is very nice and our server was very attentive and friendly. the food is your average bar fare at best. some of my friends like it so i am sure i'll end up back there at some point to catch agamebut there's much better options than here.

terrible menu. my husband and i recently stopped here on a thursday night. i have not been in a long time except to grab a beer before a steelergamelast year, when it was packed. one of the four hostesses standing at the desk recommended the bar area, we accepted until we realized there were tvs in the dinning room as well. i wanted a beer and i was told by the server that they had 36 on tap, but no list to offer, just asked me what i like. i understand that they probably change a few of them, but maybe have a base list and a seasonal list.
the menu was sad to say the least, the descriptions of the food were awful, we sat staring at the menu for a while before ordering a steak salad and a burger. i was especially disgusted by the "chef specialties" one of them was actually called "the garbage plate". i get that it is a sports bar, but the atmosphere suggests that they would have a decent menu. we were the only ones in our dinning room, there was a large party in the next room. our food came out rather fast, but my husbands burger was burnt on one side and my salad had a bunch of chunks of meat on it. it was tasty but i had to do a lot of cutting, before being able to eat it.
the service was good, and i have to mention that the staff was attractive, and it seemed like a clean place, except for the boxes of straws and other supplies all over the counter, next to us, ironically on top of a bunch of cabinets.
not somewhere i would go back to, and i will definitely not be recommending to clients visiting pittsburgh, not the impression i would want to give them of our great city!
they could use a visit from chef ramsey!

once one of my favorite places has really taken a turn for the worse.. watched the pitt/iowagameand ordered 2 mix drinks. we later found out they were $13 and $11 respectively!! whaaaat! they were in a small plastic cup!! unbelievable.. my brother ordered a capt'n and coke in a smaller plastic cup for $8.25..the waitress was nice and admitted how ridiculous the prices were. it wasn't her fault of course, but geeez. the food was pretty good, but i was nauseous paying that much for a few drinks. the place us to be reasonable, but i probably will never be back after today's experience.

grille 36 the best!!. the food is reasonablely priced and always great. the customer service is exceptional, especially brittany: she made us feel very welcome,she was very helpful about the menu items and recomended some favorites and we really enjoyed the pretzels. she is the absolute best.thanks for the tour

my friends and i came in on steeler sunday after thegameand we had an amazing server named steven. it seemed as if the place was really really busy but steven made us feel like we were his only table. he took the time to explain the drink menu... i had the irish on vacation per stevens recommendation and it was to die for. the steak salad was awesome too. i highly recommend this and if steven is there i highly recommend him. he's super friendly, knowledgeable and goes the extra mile... :-) we will be back to see steven!!

had a great time!. so my family and i drove to pittsburgh to watch the steelers vs bengalsgamesince it was blacked out in our viewing area. after some searching and talking to the concierge at the wyndham we decided to head over to grille 36. we were a little apprehensive because of some of the reviews, but wanted to give our oldest a chance to see the stadium up close.

we had the best time and will be going back (despite the 5 hour drive) sooner the later. our party of 5 was made up of 4 steelers fans and 1 bengals fan (and 3 of the 5 were children ranging from toddler to teen). the atmosphere and the staff were great. they had a fantasy footballgameand gave out bracelets to the kids. sure everyone picked on my poor bengals fan husband, but it was all fun and goodnatured and he wasn't the only bengals fan in the building. he even remarked how cool everyone had been once we'd left.

as far as the food goes the best i can come up with as far as a complaint is that the nachos were only so so and probably not worth the price. other than that we had 2 orders of the wings, dry with 3 different sauces (at our excellent servers suggestion), 2 orders of the fried pretzel sticks, the breakfast burger, the deep fried burger, the horseradish cheddar burger, the carrot cake and the chocolate, chocolate, chocolate cake. all were wonderful.

we were expecting the price to be on the expensive end, but despite all the food we had, plus drinks, including a tip we still priced out at under $200.

my introduction to the steelers was with the bus and he has always been my mothers favorite. when we left grille 36 i made sure to call her and tell her it was the greatest day ever!

a cool place with some issues.... i've been to bettis' many times, most recently a few days ago.
i've always enjoyed it. it's a cool bar with surprisingly good upscale spins on bar/comfort food. the usual downside to the place is if anything is going on at either stadium, the place is unbearably packed. but regardless of crowd, i've always had good meals with good service. my last trip bucked that trend, though. too bad i wasn't on urbanspoon before, or the good trips would have been chronicled.
since there was nogameat pnc park, it was pretty slow, despite it being a friday night. we just grabbed a high-top by the bar. first off, the table was really sticky, and had a couple patches of scrape-able gunk.
the waitress quickly came over to take our drink order. i asked her what bourbons they have. she quickly responded, "oh, i don't know that." as if i'd asked her the atomic weight of cesium. no offer to find out...as far as she was concerned, the ball was back in my court. so i ordered a jim beam and asked for a menu.
we had just come from dinner elsewhere, so i only ordered a dessert...some chocolate mousse cookie thing. it was delivered to the table literally within 2 minutes of me placing the order. i'm all for prompt service, but when it comes that fast, it's harder for me to trick myself into believing it wasn't plated 4 hours ago.
and since she clearly just grabbed the plate out of the freezer, the dessert was rock-solid...not a trait i usually associate with mousse. i had a few bites, then let it thaw for 5 minutes or so. its flavor and texture was much better once it was a bit more mousse-like.
i think this is just a case of a poorly-trained waitress, and like i said, isn't representative of my usual experience at bettis'. her response to my bourbon question actually became a fun running joke for the rest of the evening, so i guess she earned her tip in a roundabout way.
i'm just surprised that the one time i get bad service is the only time i've been there that it wasn't busy at all.

~ much better than i expected . . .. we ate here for lunch on the 4th of july prior to the ball game, and the entire north shore was packed with people because of thegameand the regatta, and the restaurant was busy too. we were seated quickly, the service was good, the food was better than i expected, and overall, i enjoyed my meal, which was the bettis steak salad (with tater tots instead of fries, which was different). i also tasted the mac & cheese which had a lot of delicious bacon, and also i liked the turkey & arugula sandwich. in addition to all the memorabilia on the wall, check out the one way window in the men's room . . . the urinals overlook the bar-room . . . and that was a little bit weird, but i thought it was really funny that the three urinals in the mens room had team logos mounted inside them from the ravens, browns, and bengals!!! that was really cool!!!

amazing. my family and i have pitt football season tickets (for the university) and before everygamewe stop there for a meal, they offer a good meal at a decent price.

this place is great, anytime!. i've been here before a steelersgameand this place was packed and we had lots of fun. it was a real party! i recently had the chance to return for a company luncheon where we actually had time to enjoy the food ... and i was pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service was. we didn't wait for drink refills, and i had a spicy sausage pasta that would be at home in a fine dining restaurant. you have a great place mr. bettis and we are coming back!

good place to go to when it's notgameday. i can understand why people are not impressed with services on a very busy day likegameday but that's to be expected.

the food & beer is good here. i love the outdoor atmosphere when the weather is nice.

mrs bonetti. we were at the grille saturday and i must say i was very disappointed. we were attending the pirategameand thought it would be nice to eat at the grille. i realize that on agameday that it would be busy, since pitt was playing but that was not an excuse. we signed in on a list and waited for over an hour when we went to check and see how long it would be we were informed there were three ahead of us. we waited for another 45 minutes and than i went to check and see how long it would be and that time they told us there were 4 ahead of us. not a way to run a business. i was highly upset and told them to cancel us. i quess if you have money to pay someone off to seat you i quess that is what it takes. i wouldn't recommend going there if there is any games going on. i won't be bak.

great!!. we came for the dallas/steelers game. it was a 4:00gameso we went to the restaurant for lunch. signed up for a table but were not given a wait time. understandable looking at the crowd already there at 11:15 am. found a spot at the bar and ordered drinks, very friendly bar staff. still not called for our table at 12:30 we decided to order at the bar. food came very quickly for the crowd(4 deep at the bar plus all the tables filled). just had burgers and fries, but very good and reasonably priced.
great atmosphere and great food and service.
will go back hopefully for the super bowl next week to watch another bird go down!!
