jerome bettis' grille 36

not just for jocks. i was pleasantly surprised on 3 recent visits to grill 36.
let me mention that i am in no way a sports fan. in fact, i usually find a bunch of lunkheads staring the picture right off the tube and yelling like animals offputting. so, when i was taken to grill 36, i expected the worst. i was surprised.
though definitely a sports atmosphere, the service was excellent (bar) and product selection excellent. menu even reaches beyond what i'd expect for a sporty chain joint.
if you're not a black and gold fanatic, be prepared. i wouldn't attend on "important game days", but that said, a mid-week stop would be great, and i understand the happy hour is quite good.

yuck. bad service- the hostess claimed she "couldn't predict how long it takes people to eat" so wouldn't even give us a time. once we were at a table, things continued to move at a snail's pace.
bad food- the club wrap literally had no taste to it. i could have put some turkey on a tortilla at home and it would have tasted better

jerome would be happy, mostly. the restaurant was not very busy on a friday afternoon, so i sat at the bar. the bartender, brie, was attending to several customers, but when she did finally reach me she was very polite and attentive. she asked for my first name and, to my surprise, addressed me by name the entire 30-45 minutes i was seated at the bar. whether this was her idea or the restaurant's, it was a nice touch.

the food came promptly...well, too promptly. i ordered a turkey burger and fries, and the food came out much quicker than i've ever been able to cook a turkey burger, which indicates that they already had some prepared or were in the process of preparing some when i ordered. nonetheless, the food tasted good. i'm sure there are more expensive items on the menu; however, based on the proximity to heinz field and the jerome bettis name, i was extremely surprised at how reasonably priced my meal was. plus, the quality and service were both very good.

one complaint: as a jerome bettis fan, i was highly disappointed that they did not have any 36 jerseys in stock.

i stopped in here with some friends prior to an event at stage ae nearby.  it was a great experience and i plan to come back when i have a chance.
at the time, they had a black and tan on tap.  i had three or four and kicked their keg, so the last one was complimentary.
the group ordered the chips and queso for the table.  it was delicious: the chips and the salsa were both fresh.  i didn't really expect that in a sports bar.  the queso was sticky and flavorful.
we ordered some wings too.  half of them were buffalo style, and the other half were some variant of spicy barbecue.  i think it was called "black and gold barbecue" but i don't see that on the menu anymore.  maybe it was renamed.  anyway, the wings were great.  fried crispy, and not wimpy either.  buffalo was buffalo, but the other sauce was awesome and i planned on trying it again.

nothing special. i have been here to watch some games and it's nothing beyond okay. it has outdoor seating on the river which is very nice and our server was very attentive and friendly. the food is your average bar fare at best. some of my friends like it so i am sure i'll end up back there at some point to catch a game but there's much better options than here.

one last touchdown!. i'll be honest, the only time i was ever in here was to have a beer on a summer afternoon. but, i loved the atmosphere! great steelers sportsbar theme and had a nice outdoor patio/eating area by the river walk. i don't think i would enjoy grille 36 as much after football games because it gets so packed and noisy. however, i am eager to go back and try some food.

the bus stops here. the waitress was lazy and inept. the food was burnt and inedible. suffice it to say, i, nor any of my friends will ever solicit this restaurant. avoid this establishment, there are better places to eat on the north shore

i can't believe i never reviewed this... i've been a fan since i first visited, since they have a great selection of foods i like. i was very pleasantly surprised by the asian chicken salad. the chicken was perfectly prepared. i've also loved their mac & cheese and other dishes i've had in the past - it's close to both stadiums and stage ae - highly recommend eating there!

this place is just ok. a tad expensive. food was ok but nothing to write home about. if you can get a table outside with a view of the city, do it. not sure i would go back given so many good alternatives in that area.

new rating... gave another try for lunch outside after a bike ride. steak salads were great.
good service.

previous review has definitely gone down hill. unkept dining area with less that courteous staff.
i would have to say it only remains open due to the location.

we have gone here several times before a show because of the convenient location near stage ae. i so much want this place to have decent food, but no luck. we have tried half a dozen different appetizers and small plates. nachos are notably sub par. bar is pretty though, so guess i might go just for a drink.

good location, has jerome's name on it, and that's why it succeeds. food is mediocre, but you won't be mad you came. it's a cool experience if you are in town but after going once or twice you'll have no reason to go back.

the pierogie flatbread at bettis is certainly something different. who would think of using mashed potatoes as a pizza base? what clever bastards. they list this appetizer  as one of their signature dishes and i understand why.  if you aren't from pittsburgh, pierogies are entirely a novelty. this is easy to overlook once you have lived in this city for several years. i would say that at least forty percent of bars in pittsburgh have pierogies on the menu. we might have more places to get pierogies than some large cities in poland. this is very shocking when you consider the word pierogie has no entry in most spell check dictionaries and indeed no standard spelling at all. see perogi, pierogy, perogy, pierógi, pyrohy, pirogi, pyrogie, or pyrogy.

not worth it. food wasn't anything to write home about. i had the 36 burger, overcooked tasteless and the blackjacked fish my wife had was terrible.server knew nothing about menu items and said whatever you wanted to hear in response to questions.much better choices in the area.very overpriced.

terrible food. have tried several times to come here and give it a chance but always disappoints sand in my lettuce salad, forgotten items, wrong items, absolutely not like it was when it first opened. it's bar food if anything but not even good bar food
