jack stack barbecue - martin city

this place is legendary. any of their meats are great. ilovethe sides though. coleslaw, beans, cheesy corn... that's the best part right there!!!

the best! the quality is excellent, staff is friendly, and the restaurant is clean. ilovetheir burnt ends and get the sandwich all the time!

ilovejack stack. i'm from texas and at first i was skeptical that kc bbq could be as good or better. i feel like i'm not allowed to say this but it's way better than anything i've had in texas. the lamb ribs are to die for and the pit beans are the best baked beans i've ever had.

1 of the best in town. it's expensive, but 1 of the top 4 in town. ilovethis place and its other locations. it is excellent and the service is normally good. the sides are to die for as well. try the rack of o ion rings, cheeses corn and the best baked beans you will ever eat.

with reservations.... i like this place, with a few reservations... its not that great, but good and consistent. a little too pricey for continual use. ilovethem beans, though!

how can you go wrong?. in a city known for bbq, how can you go wrong with jack stack? i've eaten at all of the locations (freighthouse is my favorite), and the experience is the same at all of them. ilovethe cheesy corn, and always get it. we always take out-of-towners to jack stack. the only way they could make it better would be to change their sauce. in my mind, if you combine the food of jack stack with gates' bbq sauce, that would be the perfect restaurant.

best bbq beans. i prefer the burnt ends here.lovethe bbq beans. they have bits of meat in them. mmm mmm good! think they are the best around! also recommend either the cheesy corn (sounds gross but good!) or the cheese potato bake. yum! (my husband usually gets one and i the other so we can have bites of both.) very good onion rings for appetizer. they are huge... i would recommend the half rack.

where i learned tolovebbq. jack stack (then called smokestack bbq) was where i learned to reallylovebbq. it was a long way to travel (for me over 200 miles), but worth every mile. we didn't even mind the typically long wait in the parking lot for them to call us. the food was that good. we studied the menu while waiting for a table to open. it didn't really help speed things up, as i would change my mind about a dozen times before the waitress finally came and took our order. there are so many combo choices, and everything is worthy of consideration.
hands down jack stack has the very best smoked beans in the world. they are meaty enough to almost be served as a main course, and there is enough sweetness to ponder ordering them again for dessert. i also really like the creamy cole slaw. heck, i justloveeverything on the menu. the ribs are fantastic, in all varieties. and the chicken is not to be overlooked. and the sausage, ham and brisket are all lip smacking good.
you will never leave hungry, and usually you will leave with a doggie bag, as portions are ample, and you are apt to over-order with so many wonderful choices to consider.
jack stack's other locations are more conveniently located for me, but i still have wonderful memories of the original martin city digs. we even dined by candlelight once when the power failed (i wasn't leaving, and neither were any other customers). this is where it all began, folks. everyone who isn't a vegetarian should, no, must, eat here!

awesome bbq, nice place, great service. this place is one of my favorites here in the south kc area. there are a few things that are really important to have a nice meal and jack stack bbq has them all.

1) not only is the food delicious, but the portions are extremely generous. we always end up taking some home. our favorite is the burnt ends, beans & cheesy corn.

2) the place is so nice. welovethe environment and how classy it feels. all the servers are dressed in black and there is ambient lighting. looks fancy without it affecting the budget.

3) who doesn't like customer service with their dinner? i know i do. the people at jack stack are very friendly and always have a smile on their face. they are helpful and always make sure you have what you need and even more.

one bad thing: they don't have mashed potatoes.

best beef ribs ever!!. what isn't good at this restaurant? the bbq beans are the best i've ever had. i don't like beef, but ilovethe beef ribs from jack stack. we live around the corner and get takeout often. as soon as my dog smells the food he knows he's getting the bones. everything is consistent and consistently great!
