huey's on the river

the food is defiantly worth the wait. however,,,,,,,the hostess everytime w come here is a royal b. really, with the cost of the food this place can afford someone who is pleasant!

great brunch! parmesan garlic grits are fantastic and the service was just lovely

dessert. get beignets! you will not be dissapointed & get the pecan sauce to dip them in.

great experience. visited huey's on the river on our first day in savannah (sunday, april 28, 2013) on a recommendation from a guy selling trolley tickets. we were seated at the bar, which was fine. the bartender was friendly and immediately took our drink orders.

we ended up having dinner at the bar. we ordered crab cake sandwich, green fried tomatoes (our first time) and a creamy spinach and chicken soup. the food was amazing, great flavors, and nice portions. the vibe of the place was great, lots of people watching, great views of the river and bridge.

our bill came out to $42.00. we were totally happy with the place.

would we go back? yes!!!

salmon with dill sauce and parmesan grits was fabulous!

a little sad with the beignets- doughy in the middle. i got 3 so i was able to eat around it. i wanted that cafe du monde feel but they missed.

great food.... however the service was terrible. we saw the waitress once, and the hostesses were super rude and talked bad about everyone they seated.

we had lunch here on a day trip to savannah. a local recommended huey's. the food and service were good. i had a shrimp poboy. my wife had chicken salad. she would probably try something else next time.

good food, slow service. my husband and i had dinner at huey's last pm. we were seated in the bar area by the hostess. we had a great view of the river and the ships. our food was very good but the service was slow. our waiter had two tables inside plus three outside and he seemed to be unable to keep up. we ordered the french onion soup and the gumbo as starters. both were very good but we had to wait quite a while for it to appear. for dinner i had the red beans and rice which was spicy and creamy just like they should be. my husband had the jambalaya pasta which had large chunks of sausage, chicken, and shrimp in it. he said it wad very good. very large portions of both were served. two people could split one entree and be completly satisfied. over all we would go back again, but would probably ask to be seated in the actual dining room rather than the bar.

crowded at lunch but certainly worth the wait. my wife had the chicken salad sandwich and i had the half muffuletta sandwich. both were beyond amazing. we split an order of bignettes with the praline sauce. everything was amazing and we left happy and full!

spectacular view. my hubby had breakfast here (he's an early riser) as it was convenient to our hotel. he raved about how good it tasted. together we popped in for some light fare before the dinner crowd on a saturday. we were seated near the windows and enjoyed watching the boats and people pass along river street.

i enjoyed the coating on the fried green tomatoes, but prefer a different type of sauce (which was like a 1000 island dressing). i got a crock of french onion soup, which had a nice beefy broth and lots of onions. the cheese and bread in the soup were average.

hubby got the gumbo and was surprised by the portion size. he said it tasted good.

overall, huey's met our needs, and seemed to be better than many of the others along river street.

great southern dishes. shrimp is to die for! dishes are a little expensive but service and atmosphere are well worth the price. an excellent restaruant for the wandering traveler or a local.

went for breakfast on recommendation of co-worker.    food was ok.....nothing spactular.  my first cup of coffee  was sent out with lipstick stains around the rim of the cup.  the waiter brought me another cup and ensured it was clean.  when my food plate was brought out it too was dirty!!!   the manager came out and apologized personally and re-cooked  my breakfast meal.  not a restaurant i would revisit simply due to lack of cleanliness and inspection.

it’s ok. had shrimp and oyster poboy, wife had shrimp and grits. food was pretty good. service is lacking big time. i saw our waitress reach over several peoples plates handing food out. didn’t happen to us but shouldn’t happen at all. staff needs training. we were seated in the bar section, i assume there’s no back door because every five minutes someone came out of the back carrying a sack of garbage out. it’s hard to believe they can bring garbage out through the dining area while people eat.

the food is good. the service is not. i’ve had a couple bad experiences with the same bartender/server courtney my past two visits. if she could pay as much attention to my empty drink as she does her cell phone i would definitely recommend and come back again. however, since it’s happened more than once, i’ll be dining elsewhere.
