huey's on the river

thefoodis defiantly worth the wait. however,,,,,,,the hostess everytime w come here is a royal b. really, with the cost of thefoodthis place can afford someone who is pleasant!

great experience. visited huey's on the river on our first day in savannah (sunday, april 28, 2013) on a recommendation from a guy selling trolley tickets. we were seated at the bar, which was fine. the bartender was friendly and immediately took our drink orders.

we ended up having dinner at the bar. we ordered crab cake sandwich, green fried tomatoes (our first time) and a creamy spinach and chicken soup. thefoodwas amazing, great flavors, and nice portions. the vibe of the place was great, lots of people watching, great views of the river and bridge.

our bill came out to $42.00. we were totally happy with the place.

would we go back? yes!!!

we had lunch here on a day trip to savannah. a local recommended huey's. thefoodand service were good. i had a shrimp poboy. my wife had chicken salad. she would probably try something else next time.

good food, slow service. my husband and i had dinner at huey's last pm. we were seated in the bar area by the hostess. we had a great view of the river and the ships. ourfoodwas very good but the service was slow. our waiter had two tables inside plus three outside and he seemed to be unable to keep up. we ordered the french onion soup and the gumbo as starters. both were very good but we had to wait quite a while for it to appear. for dinner i had the red beans and rice which was spicy and creamy just like they should be. my husband had the jambalaya pasta which had large chunks of sausage, chicken, and shrimp in it. he said it wad very good. very large portions of both were served. two people could split one entree and be completly satisfied. over all we would go back again, but would probably ask to be seated in the actual dining room rather than the bar.

went for breakfast on recommendation of co-worker.    food was ok.....nothing spactular.  my first cup of coffee  was sent out with lipstick stains around the rim of the cup.  the waiter brought me another cup and ensured it was clean.  when myfoodplate was brought out it too was dirty!!!   the manager came out and apologized personally and re-cooked  my breakfast meal.  not a restaurant i would revisit simply due to lack of cleanliness and inspection.

it’s ok. had shrimp and oyster poboy, wife had shrimp and grits.foodwas pretty good. service is lacking big time. i saw our waitress reach over several peoples plates handingfoodout. didn’t happen to us but shouldn’t happen at all. staff needs training. we were seated in the bar section, i assume there’s no back door because every five minutes someone came out of the back carrying a sack of garbage out. it’s hard to believe they can bring garbage out through the dining area while people eat.

thefoodis good. the service is not. i’ve had a couple bad experiences with the same bartender/server courtney my past two visits. if she could pay as much attention to my empty drink as she does her cell phone i would definitely recommend and come back again. however, since it’s happened more than once, i’ll be dining elsewhere.

great view of the river and the sidewalk. goodfoodand good service. pet friendly for sitting outside. thefoodis good, don’t be prepared to be overwhelmed by it, but price is good, good location, casual.

had breakfast here, thefoodand service were great, the restaurant was temperature controlled and was warm (i visited in the winters).  the views outside are amazing

if you like tourist  typefood- pre-made, warmed up, and poor quality, combined with bad service and lack of care or interest if you enjoyed the meal..this is the place for you.  four of us went to eat brunch....i have afoodallergy which they didn't really seem to care about because everything i asked about on the menu was met with "sorry, that is premade".  don't bother eating here.  there is betterfoodin savannah...tourist trap and not worth the money.  skip it.

really good service and thefoodwas amazing! we had everything from crawfish ettouffee, gumbo, shrimp and grits, crab cakes, bread pudding, and beignets.

we ate breakfast here twice over a recent 4 day weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the experience both times.


the tables in the front room by the riverfront windows provide a full view of river street and, to
me, are preferable to actual outdoor seating.

thefoodwas well prepared and reasonably priced with the beignets and "breakfast potatoes" being worth the trip on their own right.

the weight staff was attentive and personable without being intrusive.

we will be taking our kids and other family when we return to savannah over the christmas holiday.

huey's had been on my list of 'must try' places on river street due to the raving reviews that i have read. we went there on a saturday evening and the restaurant was fully occupied. we were told that there would be a 20-25 minute wait and we decided to be patient, hoping that it would be well worth it.

much like the reviews below, i have to say that the place was extremely loud. so it is not the ideal place if you want to have a good conversation with your dinner companions. in terms of the interior, it is one of the better decorated places in savannah. it was clean and the views of bustling river street and the water were soothing. 

i decided to try the shrimp and scallop thermidor. the rest of my group went with pan seared scallops, shrimp and grits and pasta jambalaya. the salads that accompanied the meals were delicious. my thermidor was a little underwhelming as i would have preferred to have my shrimps and scallops seared before they were added to the pasta. however, there were generous amounts of shrimps and scallops in the dish. the pan seared scallops were full of flavour and seared to perfection. the grits were delicious too. 

although thefooddid not live up to my expectations, i give them a 3.5 because the atmosphere exceeded my expectations. i look forward to returning to huey's to try some of their other popular dishes.

grew up eating at the huey's in atlanta. fantastic beignets and atmosphere was great. it was very peaceful on a weekday morning. the waitress seemed a bit dismissive and absent since we were only ordering beignets but thefoodmade up for her lackluster service.
