huey's on the river

thebeignetsare amazing!!!

went to huey's for breakfast and it was one of the best decisions i've made so far! the place was clean and quaint. my server was really nice and checked on me often. i had the two eggs any style, bacon, cheese grits, and a ln order of beignets. people say thebeignetsare the star but the cheese grits were my star!! they were prepared beautifully!!! seasoned to perfection and piping hot. loved them so much!!! overall it's great spot for breakfast in savannah.

this place was pretty good. not as good as people told me. but pretty good. the location is key. right on river street with a great view. the hostess was horrible. i sat there and watched whole groups wait to be helped as she was in the back talking. i had 3 waiters during dinner and they were a little disorganized as they ended up bringing two of what i ordered. i think they need to work on communication.beignetswere just okay. nothing to write home about.

we ate breakfast here twice over a recent 4 day weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the experience both times.


the tables in the front room by the riverfront windows provide a full view of river street and, to
me, are preferable to actual outdoor seating.

the food was well prepared and reasonably priced with thebeignetsand "breakfast potatoes" being worth the trip on their own right.

the weight staff was attentive and personable without being intrusive.

we will be taking our kids and other family when we return to savannah over the christmas holiday.

everything was really good, but it was very loud. beignetsare not new orleans worthy, so skip those. however, the praline glaze you could put on them was to die for good. our waiter was incredible, too. really no complaints except for the noise. by the time dinner was done, i was desperate to get out for some peace and quiet on the street.

grew up eating at the huey's in atlanta. fantasticbeignetsand atmosphere was great. it was very peaceful on a weekday morning. the waitress seemed a bit dismissive and absent since we were only orderingbeignetsbut the food made up for her lackluster service.

huey's best breakfast on river street. huey’s is always on top. when you go for breakfast you have to order at least a dozenbeignetswith powdered sugar. if you have kids get two dozen, they we like the sugar high. if you or the kids need more sugar get the sugared pecan side that goes with the beignets. other restaurants may be empty but huey’s is always filled. if there is a wait, it will be worth the wait. we had a party of four. my two friends had omelets. the omelets are high and fluffy. you can get them filled with your favorite accompaniment. my lovely wife had the crab cake benedict. she raved on and on about how good they were. i had the eggs blackstone. this is eggs benedict with a broiled tomato slice. i have to say my wife can make a perfect poached egg and i make the perfect hollandaise sauce. so when i go to a restaurant that is high volume i am always concerned that the rush will turn out hard eggs and poor sauce, not the case at huey’s. perfect eggs and hollandaise sauce.

new orleans in savannah. we really enjoyed our recent visit to huey's. both service and food were great. the shrimp creole was very good. however, thebeignetswere heavenly. give it a try!

my favorite savannah restaurant! shrimp and grits were amazing! crawfish étouffée was delicious, and jambalaya was another absolutely delicious dish.beignetswere a nice touch, especially with kids. i would definitely return to eat here again!

good food, service and view. went on a tuesday at 7, seated right away,very good corn bread at the table immediately. atmosphere was light and did not feel crowded even though it was busy. kid friendly. provided with sample of the local beer before ordering. apparition ale was very cold and pretty good. house salad was minimal but fresh. pasta jambalaya was served fast and was very good.beignetsand coffee rounded out a great meal. would recomend and would return. total $33 before tip.

get the praline sauce for thebeignetsfor sure. they are great without it but out of this world with it! the oyster po boy and the shrimp po boy are both really good. the oysters were tender and the shrimp was plump. unfortunately the fries were soggy and the service was really slow.

their shrimp po boys are the best! thebeignetscame highly reccomended. i agree!!

food: shrimp & grits, beignets. entree was good, somewhat pricey for the number of shrimp, more grits than i cared to try to eat.beignetswere still under cooked on inside but had potential to be good, lets face it fried dough and a heap of powdered sugar is all they are.. nothing mystical.

service: our particular waitress's service was slow, drinks went empty, the little stuff that's easy to control.

restaurant is not baby stroller friendly.

perfection!. we'd been to savannah a couple times and each time we passed huey's on river street the line was backed up for hours. while we usually don't go for the tourist attractions something told us we needed to try this place out. hands down- the bestbeignetsi have ever had. the other breakfast items are wonderful but i can hardly remember them compared to the beignets. in fact, i don't even recall how long we waited for a table- everything is eclipsed by their fluffy, sugary perfection. spring for the praline sauce for an even more decadant experience!
