since we're in a coastal region, one definitely needs to eat seafood. however, not knowing what exact seafood to order, we decided to ordered fish curry meals (with the staple boiled rice). along with that, we also ate buthai tava fry and crocker tava fry (koddai).

firstly, we were absolutely surprised at the size of the two types of fish ordered - it was much bigger than what we expected! and given the price, it is definitely worth it.
1. fish curry meals: this had boiled rice and a fish curry. the curry was not too spicy, and was delicious. it does have a homely feel to it, so you can have this in case you want to eat some tasty home-style mangalorean fish curry.
2. buthai tava fry and 3.crocker tava fry (koddai): as mentioned earlier, the size of the fish was greater than what we expected. the fish was absolutely tasty, with the perfect amount of spice. and the taste of coconut oil used for frying the fish was prominent in these dishes. the masala used for the koddai fry was amazing!

overall: this was a value for money, delicious, and delightful meal.

this place is the go-to place for fish fries. anjal fry was out of the world. this trick is to get it as early as possible. the masala that they serve with the fish is unique. the food experience is nothing but divine. it's not a place for ambience or cosy meals. i rate it high purely for the flavours that they get me on the plate.

for more detailed reviews please visit my insta page @ sykoblogger

we decided to do a dine in here, but saw that this place was so crowded, we decided to have a take away.

we ordered anjal fry and koddai fry.

was disappointed that they were out of prawns :(

the masala they use here is unique and different from other places you would have fish fry.

the place is crowded always and this itself would clarify on how awesome the taste would be.

this place is recommended!!!!!!

had gone there for dinner on my recent visit to manglore and loved the way they have kept it simple , no menu , just fish meals @ 70/- and assorted fish frys , depending on the fresh catch of the day . don't know if it was only on the day i visited or even normally they don't carry any prawns , crabs or any other sea food , so will call it a fish fry resturant only not a sea food one .🙃.
had ordered a slice of anjal fry with my rice thali and was blown over by the super freshness and the lightness of the fish , amongst the best i have ever tasted in manglore . the masala coating was not thick and overwhelming like in so many other places .
i surely highly recommend this place as it has become a close second to my favorite fish place in manglore, giri manja . am definitely going back the next time i am in town

a must visit place for those who love fish fry. try anjal fish fry once and you will end up here once a month at least! people who prefer white rice over boiled rice might be a little disappointed as this place only serves boiled rice. also, they serve tasty buttermilk along with fish meals which is like a cherry on cake.

if you are a seafood lover and in mangalore, don't miss out on this gem of a place. small restaurant, very basic ambience but the food it serves will definitely leave a mark in your heart.
once you enter, they'll start serving the thali which contains either white or brown rice, sabji, salad and traditional drink.
you can choose from a variety of fried fish.
we had taken the king fish and pomfret. both of them tasted divine.
a must visit place if you want to taste real mangalorean cusine.

i rate this place not on ambience but on food. the fish fry is at a different level altogether. it puts in tough competition for other hotels and it also touches the local cuisine very closely.

awesomeness by virtue of its simplicity along with the amazing aroma welcomes you at this little fish restaurant in the harbor area or bunder area of mangalore. the location of this is not very prominent and it's quite possible that you miss it - however, helpful locals will guide you if google maps doesn't treat you well.

the specialty of this little place is fish mini meals, fish curry and choice of fish fry. like in most of other fish restaurants in mangalore, the price of the fish fry depends on the price of the fish for that day - hence, there is no fixed price on the menu. what will not change is the preparation which is truly special and unique to this restaurant. the fish fries are laden with red crispy spicy chutney powder which makes these "tawa fry" preparations so very unique.

the best time to visit is between 12noon and 1.30pm when the crowd is relatively less. we chose for a take-away of fish curry, tawa fries of king fish, sardine and mackerel.

the aroma of the fish shallow fried in coconut oil on a hot tava slowly to a perfect consistency to keep the fish moist from inside and crunchy from outside is evident in all fry preparations. the hot smoke emanating from the packet as soon as we open the parcel welcomed us first followed by the crispy touch of the "magical" spicy powder and then the soft and tender fish danced on our tongue. every bite tasted as if it was the first bite. the taste was unique, totally different from fish delicacies that we had ever tasted in mangalore.

the best of customer service and unique-simple-tasty food makes this place a worth visit and deserves all 5 stars.

please note: there is no convenient parking available near the restaurant which is the only drawback.

hotel narayana is another legendary sea food restaurant which needs no introduction. this place is hugely popular with locals. if i have to suggest someone to visit any one restaurant in mangalore then that would be hotel narayana. because it's pretty old school and food preparation is also very simple. we had their fish thali, anjal fry and pomfret fry. i still feel the taste of that fresh fish fry. on top of that they serve some kind of magical masala mix which enhances the taste of fish fry. i loved that spicy butter milk which they serve with fish thali. here they don't serve white rice, so you have to adjust with boiled rice. don't miss this place if you are in mangalore and head there before lunch time to avoid crowd.
