hotel narayana is another legendary sea food restaurant which needs no introduction. this place is hugely popular with locals. if i have to suggest someone to visit any one restaurant in mangalore then that would behotelnarayana. because it's pretty old school and food preparation is also very simple. we had their fish thali, anjal fry and pomfret fry. i still feel the taste of that fresh fish fry. on top of that they serve some kind of magical masala mix which enhances the taste of fish fry. i loved that spicy butter milk which they serve with fish thali. here they don't serve white rice, so you have to adjust with boiled rice. don't miss this place if you are in mangalore and head there before lunch time to avoid crowd.

the struggle begins when you try searching for the hotel. this part is easy as thehotelis quite popular, and you can find the place without a lot of struggle. now once you have found the hotel, comes the most difficult part, especially if you are in to have lunch. and that is to find a place to sit! stuffed with as many people as would be enough to make thehotelchoke (if it could breathe), you need to have patience till you find a place. but once you do find a place, the service is prompt. in no time a man comes to clean the tables, then comes a man who brings a plate with rice and one or two basic curries, and then comes the man who brings the star of the show - fishes! he brings all the variety thehotelhas to offer in a single large plate, you could see and decide for yourself which one you want to have. the fishes are crispy, accompanied by fried masala which goes along superbly with the fish. the method of cooking is quite in contrast with what girimanjas has. thehotelproperty is absolutely basic, targeted at the office staff and people working nearby who come here to have lunch and go. for lunch, i would recommend not bringing your family along. but other wise, go for it.

it was a hot afternoon in mangalore and i was desperate for some good sea food.hotelnarayana was highly recommended in a blog that i read and gave no second thought to visit it. located in the bunder region is a small home converted restaurant which is over 60 years old. it's an old fashioned restaurant with a rustic and sophisticated ambiance.

this place has no menu, as soon as you have occupied your table, you're served a meal and an other server brings in a platter of different variety pan fried fish from which you can choose any. the meal consists of brown rice, mango pickle, vegetable curry, fish curry and buttermilk. while in fish platter there's king fish, pomfret, sardines etc. i took the king fish, it was served with a powder which is the fried masala.
the fish curry is a sour curry made with tomato puree. the fish is soft, spicy and melts in the mouth. the podi along with it has strong flavour. the brown rice with fish curry and fish is divine. to finish of the meal is a buttermilk with added soda.

overall delicious food for that price is, money well spent. the quality is something that lacks and is quite unhygienic. i would recommend this place if you want the taste of mangalore seafood delicacy. sometimes it's these small places that can give you sweet, unforgettable memories.

another good place in mangalore serving amazing mangalorean seafood. the place is like a small old fashioned house which is made into a restaurant.hotelnarayana offers a proper mangalorean fish meal that includes a thali which consists of white rice/boiled rice, fish curry, vegetable curry and pickle. along with the thali you are offered a wide variety of fried fish to choose from which the steward brings in a huge platter. the food is excellent and homely and extremely pocket friendly.

mangalore is famous for its fishes and an local resident would definitely visit bunder to grab his/her hands on the fresh catch of the city. just at a stone throw away distance is this place calledhotel narayana also addressed as narayana's..
from the outside you will see the rustic look of a 2 floored house. the eatery serves only fish meals and various options of fish fry . the price is very reasonable and also there needs to a special mention of the butter milk . you can gulp down two glasses of it.

i wonder why is this place located just at one place which is also in the outskirts. we always wished if they had anotherhotelnear kottara/urwa. although i find the fish fry here spicy, still cant resist to eat (much fresh...such taste :p) . anjal fish fry....slurrrrrppp.  i miss mangalore...i miss sea food. :(

really awesome see food.... perfect place for see food lovers.. the food and the king fish 🐟. they serve is really fantastic.. very very smooth eat.. and tastes amazing.. and its mouth watery.. i saw about thehotelevery where on search engines and its not that much spacious as well.. no question of ambiance.. and the only good thing is when you get good for the money you are paying.. nothing else matters.. if you want rich look or posh standard it's not of that.. it's simple and splendid.. with very very very very good and tastey food... must visithotelin mangalore... #really i enjoyed the food a lot... #hope you too in the next visit..
