long story short - it's the place you want to go to have awesome fish fry and fish rice meal (and that's their whole menu, seriously!).

the place itself is in a bylane of bunder road ( which itself looks like a bylane!) but don't be fooled by the innocent looking sign pointing you into what looks like a garage. what awaits you is a small dhaba/kitchen with plastic chairs and tables, but look beyond all that and start by ordering a plate of rice and your choice of the day's offering of fish. we personally tried anjal (seer fish, which has literally no bones in the serving, the other option was bangda, mackerel and needs some skill to eat) and were presented with what i can only call fish straight from the frying pan. it comes along with what looks like burnt crumbs of some sort but i will explain as that delicious heaven which is left behind in the pan when your mom or favorite aunt cooks fish and you just want it to polish off that rice. all in all come to this place if you are a true foodie wanting to try the best fish fry you will get.

a small house like place located in the narrow bylanes of bunder area,i was not very sure how my experience would be going by the exteriors. the menu is very limited to seafood and the meal is standard thali with an accompaniment of fish of your choice in the style available (masala fry, rava fry, tawa fry) the preparation is excellent and makes u ask for more even though you are full.don't forget to gulp down a glass of masala buttermilk before u leave.also ask for the crusted powder of the fried fish......it is fabulously tasty!!

never ever miss this place if you are in mangalore.i visited mangalore all the way from coorg just to eat fish in this place.
the staple fish curry along with white or boiled rice is given with some vegetable curry and pickle. a waiter comes around with the catch of the day including many varieties consisting of sardines, mackarels, pomfrets and king fish which varies from day to day. but the usp is that narayan’s has anjal (king fish) all year round.

the first of the many sea food places that i visited in mangalore. its a famous place and you might have to wait for some time to get a seat.
dont go looking for variety here. the only thing you get is fish curry meals after which the cook will come carrying a big plate containing around 4-5 types of pan fried fishes. the taste is really good and the fried masala that they give with the fish is awesome. during dinner the crowd is much less.
not much of an ambience, but that is of course overshadowed by the food.

i'll give them a straight 5 for the no nonsense experience. when i remember the best food moments i had back in mangalore (2006-2012), my mouth waters maximum due to the fish fry here. you may have to wait for a seat, there's no comfort or ambiance, there's no menu with options, all there is, is the best fried fish you'll get in mangalore on a big plate taken straight from the frying pan. be wise. pick nice.

epic!!! first i thought the place was a hype. but no i was amazed. a small place and crowded. you do not go there for ambience but for the food. they bring a tray of readily fried kingfish pieces. the crust was crispy and juicy on the inside. a must visit if you want to taste the mangalorean style of seafood. absolutely worth it.

really awesome see food.... perfect place for see food lovers.. the food and the king fish 🐟. they serve is really fantastic.. very very smooth eat.. and tastes amazing.. and its mouth watery.. i saw about the hotel every where on search engines and its not that much spacious as well.. no question of ambiance.. and the only good thing is when you get good for the money you are paying.. nothing else matters.. if you want rich look or posh standard it's not of that.. it's simple and splendid.. with very very very very good and tastey food... must visit hotel in mangalore... #really i enjoyed the food a lot... #hope you too in the next visit..

no words to describe this place.. truly a fish lover's paradise... my advice to you guys is to just flush off all your expectations about the ambience and just go visit this place... inspite of being a goan, i've never had better fish in my life.... place is overcrowded.... always!
the best part is that they get ready fried fish in a humongously big tray at your table and you have to select your piece... you name the fish and you can see it ready fried in the tray... then they put the crumbed masala over the top of your piece... fish curry is well flavoured... one full glass of rice water(starch) is complementary with the thali.... service cannot get better than this inspite of the crowd... and prices are dirt cheap!!!
legendary!

this was part of our mangalore trip: the stuff which stands out at this place is their anjal fish (king fish) fry. we had around 2-3 of them…it is just awesome. it’s not a good looking place but this one recipe makes all the difference. a must try place.

whenwever i have gone to this restaurant, i eatvfish fries morevthan rice. king fish and pomfret fries arevthe most tasty. fried masala powder served with fry is more than enough for rice , gravy is not at all required
after every visit i come out with a fully loaded tummy and 100% satisfaction

this place seems to be always crowded!

pros:
1] reasonable pricing
2] spacious
3] tasty seafood preparations and meals.

cons:
1] the masala used was bit too salty (when i visited)
2] all the different fish fries have same type of masala. no variety here.

very nice place overall.

[ps: giri manja's is my personal favourite in mangalore :-) ]

i am a frequent traveller to mangalore on my way to kannur from mumbai. since my home is within 2 hours from the city, i never visit restaurants in mangalore. but this time, it was a bit different as my train was at 4:45 pm and i reached mangalore at 12. my search for a simple, authentic mangalorean meal, took me to narayana. the place is nothing extraordinary and your first impression is a bit negative. but once you start tasting the rice fish curry and anjal fry you just forget yourself in the sheer experience of having the extraordinary lunch. a must visit place for sea food lovers.............
