hotel narayana is another legendary sea food restaurant which needs no introduction. this place is hugely popular with locals. if i have to suggest someone to visit any one restaurant inmangalorethen that would be hotel narayana. because it's pretty old school and food preparation is also very simple. we had their fish thali, anjal fry and pomfret fry. i still feel the taste of that fresh fish fry. on top of that they serve some kind of magical masala mix which enhances the taste of fish fry. i loved that spicy butter milk which they serve with fish thali. here they don't serve white rice, so you have to adjust with boiled rice. don't miss this place if you are inmangaloreand head there before lunch time to avoid crowd.

hands down the best place inmangalorefor seafood especially if u crave anjal . simple service , few items in menu but what an amazing experience .

hotel narayana is one of those benchmarkmangalorefish restaurants (like girimanja) the other restaurants try to match.. the place is simple but crowded. preferable to go by bike or rickshaw. no parking space for car. the service was prompt. the menu is limited but very tasty. you choose the fish you like and have it served with tawa fryed powder on it. the gravy with the fish could be improved. heavy on the pocket. finish the meal with some butter milk or plain soda for a traditionalmangalorefish meal experience. enjoy!

located nearmangaloreport, don't expect a 5star welcome, and sitting arrangement, but a small shop which provides wonderful service and real good and fresh food!

hotel narayana is another legendary seafood restaurant inmangaloreone must try only if they have passion and crave for typical mangalorean seafood cuisine.
this place has a very short menu fish of the season three to four verities and a fish curry rice (meen vansu). typically they have mackrel (bangude), sardine (bootai), kingfish (anjaal), lady fish (kane), pomphret (maanji) etc.
their fish fry is serve along with the roasted spices from the tava, which tastes amazing and em drooling as i am writing. they fish fry masala is a secret and certainly will please your taste buds. it’s a little spicy for me but i have crave for spicy or extra spicy food.
if one shuld go here to taste what i mentioned above, please ignore the general hygine, service and ambience.
5 for meeting my expectations

it was a hot afternoon inmangaloreand i was desperate for some good sea food. hotel narayana was highly recommended in a blog that i read and gave no second thought to visit it. located in the bunder region is a small home converted restaurant which is over 60 years old. it's an old fashioned restaurant with a rustic and sophisticated ambiance.

this place has no menu, as soon as you have occupied your table, you're served a meal and an other server brings in a platter of different variety pan fried fish from which you can choose any. the meal consists of brown rice, mango pickle, vegetable curry, fish curry and buttermilk. while in fish platter there's king fish, pomfret, sardines etc. i took the king fish, it was served with a powder which is the fried masala.
the fish curry is a sour curry made with tomato puree. the fish is soft, spicy and melts in the mouth. the podi along with it has strong flavour. the brown rice with fish curry and fish is divine. to finish of the meal is a buttermilk with added soda.

overall delicious food for that price is, money well spent. the quality is something that lacks and is quite unhygienic. i would recommend this place if you want the taste ofmangaloreseafood delicacy. sometimes it's these small places that can give you sweet, unforgettable memories.

this 60+ year old place has been a prominent spot within the city for fish meals. the meals comprising of rice and two curries was quite decent . the large grain rice is commonly used here . you definitely have to try the meals along with the butter milk. once the meal is served , you will be attended at your table with a platter of fish comprising of anjal , pomfret, padanga, kodai fry . you are free to choose the type and size of fish offered . there is only one word to describe the experience once you start gulping down - it's 'bliss' . the ambiance could have been better , although they had made the best use of the space available . lot of foreigners visit the place on a daily basis . waiting to come back again ! mangalorean food at its best !

another good place inmangaloreserving amazing mangalorean seafood. the place is like a small old fashioned house which is made into a restaurant. hotel narayana offers a proper mangalorean fish meal that includes a thali which consists of white rice/boiled rice, fish curry, vegetable curry and pickle. along with the thali you are offered a wide variety of fried fish to choose from which the steward brings in a huge platter. the food is excellent and homely and extremely pocket friendly.

best fish fry i had today(inmangalore:p). anjal. the masala provided is perfect. which makes the entire meal a delicious one. also try the masala butter milk. its freshly prepared.
its comparatively cheap also.

never ever miss this place if you are in mangalore.i visitedmangaloreall the way from coorg just to eat fish in this place.
 the staple fish curry along with white or boiled rice is given with some vegetable curry and pickle. a waiter comes around with the catch of the day including many varieties consisting of sardines, mackarels, pomfrets and king fish which varies from day to day. but the usp is that narayan’s has anjal (king fish) all year round.
