oh my god! love the presentation of the food. one of the best presentations i have ever come across. i ordered a shakshuka which was mind blowing. my friends called for a beef shakshuka and chicken with veggies baked. the food was just delicious. the coffee was good too. in all a very good experience and definitely worth revisiting. i might not be able to visit again as i am moving to canada soon but thanks guys for an amazing experience.
ambience - 3/5
food - 4/5
value for money - 4/5
service - 4/5

the french toast is out of this world. if i could dream up a french toast, this would be it. generous serving size and presented beautifully. great coffee. service could be a little friendlier but fine for the most part.

to be honest, its one of worst breakfast we have ever had, the most expensive breakfast option - 485 breakfast, priced $20 only comes with all sorts of pickle, one boiled egg and a tiny small pretzel, other things are also really disappointing, its really a not very good start of the day with a bad breakfast, hopefully the some items of the menu can be reviewed by the owner and can be charged with its right value, we will still try to enjoy our day despite of this.

i've eaten at four ate five countless times over the years, and it's generally pretty good in terms of service and food. last week and a few times recently i've noticed however that when they wipe the tables down in between new customers, they use a sopping wet rag that smells of mould. this is not only highly infective at cleaning tables, but also can further the spread of harmful pathogens and bacteria. the wet rag left a fungal smell that lingered in the area for a good 5 minutes. i'll definitely eat here again, i just suggest that they implement a new cleaning protocol.

wow, this place gets busy on a sunday morning but it is well worth waiting for! inside or out? get amongst it with the enthusiastic diners inside even though it is 38 degrees and probably hotter in the kitchen. service is good considering how busy they are! great coffees to start. fight the power superfood smoothie with banana, cacao, soy milk, toasted almonds, dates and cardamon is thick and delicious too. chose the breakfast bowl and the mexican! (see photos) both amazing choices and enough sustenance to see you through to late afternoon! highly recommend!

we came here at 7:30am on a thursday to avoid the early morning rush.

coffee on offer is single o - killer bee blend. the barista was very friendly and talked us through the coffee options. i tried the chilter, it was my first time having one (not made by myself), it was nice but i think the hot batch brew is much nicer. they also do a cold brew so i will try that next visit.

i am a big fan of mediterranean and middle eastern food flavours like yoghurt, eggplant, and beetroot, so this menu is perfect if you like these sort of foods too.

we had the sabish (the one that is pita filled), and the beetroot and yoghurt puree with poached egg on toast - the latter was an absolute winner - wow! it was like being dropped into a different world. for sure i could eat that every morning.

recommendations: beetroot and yoghurt puree with poached egg

$50 for two people. worth it!

terrible customer service. we arrived on a sunday (11/6/17) around 11am knowing we'd have to wait for a table - totally fine/expected.
the experience went horribly south when the waiter at the door in charge of taking names was incredibly rude and barely acknowledged us. after 15 minutes of waiting, we had to approach her and when we tried to arrange a table for two, she gave us attitude and killed the entire experience!
we love the food but the customer service is horrible!

absolutely terrible service by a waitress (short with black hair in a pony tail) this morning. my partner and i waited 20 minutes for a table outside with two seats. we were offered tables inside on two occasions which we politely declined as preferred to sit outside. finally there was a vacant table with three seats available which we asked to be seated at yet the aforementioned waitress told us that a group of three would be seated there. upon looking at the queue of people outside, there were no groups of three waiting - only couples. when the waitress came outside again we asked who the three people were as there were clearly no groups of three - she then proceeded to give us attitude, insisting that she was about to seat a group of three (again- there were only couples waiting to dine!!!) then went back inside.
we then spoke to another waitress and explained the situation - she was super friendly and apologized. however when the first waitress saw us talking to the other lady, she then came out and blatantly lied - saying that she did indeed offer us the outside table when she never did!!! ugh! what's with the lying?!
won't be returning here which is a shame as the food is delicious.

judging by the crowds we encountered while eating there - there was a small queue out the front at peak lunch hour - four ate five looks to be a firm and reliable favourite among locals and sydney brunch-lovers. the vibe is cosy and friendly, and it's the perfect place to go if you're in the mood for a cafe that delivers wholesome, tasty food with a bit of a twist.

saturday morning around 9am. short wait for an internal table. this place is super busy. a few minutes later the q is long. we had the salmon cream cheese bagel (shares of the 70s!) and fried eggs with this fab potato hash brown. tell you what, this is the goto hash brown in sydney. with a slice of toast left over i asked for honey but got this amazing marmalade. omg between the marmalade and the hashie i was so happy. coffee decent.

i ordered the mexican and it was disappointing. the beans were overcooked and mushy whereas the mexican sauce seems to come from a bottle that is bought from woolworths or coles.

love the sandwiches here (lunch menu only), my favourites are the reuben and the chicken sandwich with mango chutney. coffee is reliably good here too.

it's always lunch time at four ate five. we came in early but the staff did not mind when we order the most delicious sandwiches in surry hills at 10am.

you gotta try the four ate five classics, roast beef and chicken sandwich. the roast beef sandwich is layered with sweet onion relish, lettuce and tomato. the mustard and aioli sauce makes it a yummy sandwich.

i love the free range chicken sandwich. i eat it all the time. the combination of mayo and spring onion, layered with bacon, cheese and lettuce are perfection. the cranberry sauce that comes with, is just finger licking good!

excellent coffee and homemade chai latte. a fave joint in my neighbourhood.
