so i took a two week break from brunching (not a voluntary decision mind you) and let me tell you...it was horrible. i missed my weekly dose ofeggsand coffee terribly, and vowed to never sway from brunching ever again. four ate five was a delightful discovery upon m and i's lucky fortune in securing a parking spot on crown street. seriously, that never happens. despite the 20 minute (painfullly hungry) wait, we left feeling very satisfied. i love cafes that offer specials in addition to their regular menu - it means that there is always a surprise, usually a good one.  i was off to a good start with my much needed dose of caffeine - the skim cappucino ($3.80) was beautifully frothy but slightly too bitter. m ordered a strawberry milkshake  ($7) because he had "seen someone drinking it"  however 5 minutes later we realised that there was no such order on the menu. now we were really intrigued as to why they didn't stop our order and anticipated what was to come. the result? a sublime

excellent busy hipster cafe. we got here slightly after 12pm on a saturday and only waited a short 1 or 2min. line grew much longer after that. very hipster cafe with good service. space is tight but that's part of the charm. my friend who had coffee said it was good and strong, better than the book kitchen and reuben hills which we went to after. banana smoothie ($7.50) is large and topped with cinnamon, i normally don't like cinnamon but i think it went well with the drink. french toast stuffed with banana is a yum sweet brekkie choice. homemade creamed corn with poachedeggsis also unique, the creamed corn is pretty good.

disappointing. we had breakfast here in january and loved it so we returned upon our current visit to sydney (may, 2015). bakedeggsundercooked and relatively flavourless. kale, chorizo and friedeggsalso disappointing. theeggswere undercooked, chorizo of poor quality and most likely boiled (?). the food was so bad in comparison to meals in january that we assume the place has changed owners/management. we left dissatisfied, plates barely touched and found brunch elsewhere.

485 breakfast plate : 😍 amazing
lamb bakedeggs: 😍 amazing
fruit juice : 😍 amazing
snickers milkshake : 😍 amazing

we’ve been wanting to come here for so long. we finally made it and it was not a disappointment. loved the lamb bakedeggswith the crispy bread on the side. the fruit juice (we go apple, orange and ginger) was super refreshing and the snickers milkshake was so worth every calorie. dishes were fulfilling and the prices were not bad. service was also great. highly recommended.

service was friendly and prompt. the food was delicious. the lamb bakedeggswas very fulfilling and had heaps of flavour. the brekkie board was also delicious, the hummus was fragrant and well spiced. i also loved the falafel, it was dense yet moist and full of flavour. would love to come back and try the other foods along with their coffee.

probably the best cafe in surry hills! great buzzing location on crown st. i’ve been here numerous times & love it each visit.
first time we came there was a lengthy table wait on a saturday brunch, but it was worth it. my friend got the weekend special dish & i got the lamb bakedeggswith mint yoghurt, which was such a unique and amazing dish! i overheard the waiters chatting about how it’s exactly what to eat if you’re in a food coma which is so accurate lol
the servings are generous, flavours are complex & it’s just overall hearty filling super tasty real food. the coffee is also excellent, and was served super quickly. very smooth and strong.
i usually stop by before going to the library from a cappuccino here because it’s so great.
it has the quintessential surry hills vibe; very aesthetic, trendy, minimalistic, & full of interesting quirky folks.
one of the occasions i went though, there was an extremely rude & snarky blonde male waiter who had some serious passive aggressive issues & clearly thought he was in some kind of reality show. i haven’t seen him since though so hopefully he’s been let go. made the experience unpleasant

overall awesome place & amazing value for money

saturday morning around 9am. short wait for an internal table. this place is super busy. a few minutes later the q is long. we had the salmon cream cheese bagel (shares of the 70s!) and friedeggswith this fab potato hash brown. tell you what, this is the goto hash brown in sydney. with a slice of toast left over i asked for honey but got this amazing marmalade. omg between the marmalade and the hashie i was so happy. coffee decent.

this place had been on my list to eat for over 3 years, and finally decided to come here for a long overdue catchy up!. 2xbakedeggsand 2xcapps. baked eggs: almonds, feta, moroccan tomato sauce, toast-$18. this yolk was good (the other a bit too cooked). i heard good things about the bakedeggshere so was keen to try it, and my first and last bakedeggsfor winter. the first bite was good, but after the second, i knew it was going to get even more salty. i think the feta was a nice addition to add some creaminess, luckily they did hold back since it would've gotten even more salty. loved the almonds for a bit of crunch. one of theeggswere cooked well, and botheggslooked like it covered the whole dish, but i thought there was a bit too much tomato in proportion with the egg. there was a good amount of spice in the tomatoes, just too much salt, not enough acidity or something to break through all the salt. the bread was toasted nicely, but not enough bread to help balance out the sauce as well.

four ate five is a very popular little cafe in surry hills, very busy, trendy and healthy. this is my current number one breakfast/brunch/lunch spot. four ate five is my favourite for multiple reasons; first of all they make great coffee. second of all, they make amazing smoothies and juices and they also sell kambucha. the food is absolutely delicious! roasted toamt and avo dish and also bakedeggsare an absolite must try! highly recommend.  full review on my blog

one of the first restaurants i visited in surry hills . lovely suburb ! lovely restaurant! lovely service ! i liked the seating arrangement as well , most tables are joined together and gives you a feeling of one big group!😊
we had a sandwich , the toast was a bit too hard but the filling was dish ! also had the moroccan styleeggs, they were the best i've ever had . delicious with a good hit of spice . had the chai latte as well , but it had too much cinnamon.

i will return ! great experience !

the cunningly named four ate five (its address is 485 crown st!) is no stranger to the brunch scene. for years i have seen queues upon queues of people outside this small establishment. there must be some reason for all the buzz, right? it was a beautiful and warm saturday morning and all were out to play. there were mums with kids, friends and couples, and dogs. lots and lots of dogs(!!!). the parade of dogs made time pass much quicker during our 15 or so minute wait for a table. over the years, four ate five have seem to have perfected their bakedeggsrecipe. perhaps they're one of the few places that served bakedeggsbefore it became a "thing"?

wad there for brunch today. ambience wise, the music was a tad too loud for conversations. service on the other hand is great.

i had theeggsbenny with ham on croissant. i thought the combination of benny and crossaint does not work. it gets a tad too rich from the hollandaise and also the butter filled croissants. the sweetness from the crossaint throws the balance of the dish too. the poachedeggswere perfectly cooked though. would i come back? maybe not in the near future.
