relativelylonglines during the weekend but well worth the wait. the puffs are cooked fresh so they come out very hot (be careful when biting in!). the dough is thin and soft, while the filling is a mildly sweet custard. each puff is bite sized so they go down very easily. we ordered a pack of 9 for $4. remember to bring cash as there is a surcharge for card.

um. um. im not calling it bad honestly. i think it's great and the filling is so satisfying and the cake is fluffy. but im sort of disappointed. the size is perfect but i guess all the hype and thelongqueues made me expect something more than just tasty food. but!!

thelongqueues is totally worth it!! its perfect in everything but theres something missing for me so!! yeah!! 9/10 recommended!!

20 feb' 15 in the afternoon we went to chinatown nightmarket. the market is held every friday from 4pm-11pm. the place was packed, so it was kind of hard to move around. we tried bbq pork ($4), didn't really like it. bee cheng hiang is wayy better. there is also one place that had alongqueue : emperor's puff we bought 3pcs for $1. the puffs were pipping hot, didn't really like it because the custard had a slight bitter aftertaste. dinner at naruone rice ($2) half-half ($35) we waited for more than 30 minutes for the chicken to came. the rice came notlongafter we ordered, but  the chicken hasn't come until the rice is cold. the boneless fried chicken gangjung was good, but there were too much chicken skin! :( the fried one is better, the other one (boneless fried chicken gangjung with sweet & spicy sauce) was too sweet for my liking, so it was kinda overwhelming after a few pieces.

first of all, the famous custard puffs are great! a convenient, quick (depending on the line) and super affordable snack for after uni. my mum often buys the refrigerated pork and chicken buns from the bakery to take home, where the pork bun is slightly sweet and the chicken one has hints of ginger. both good! from the photos: today i bought an egg tart for $1.70, yes i could definitely taste the egg in there and the pastry was perfectly flaky and sweet. recently i also bought the glutinous rice ball, filled with red bean and surprisingly filling for its size. the atmosphere of the bakery is lively and busy, and there are so many choices of breads and snacks to choose from. yeah the store does seem kind of unclean but i can assure you that theres a reason for thelonglines.

beaut cream puffs!
whenever i walk past the huge line queuing for the emperor garden's cream puffs, i'm always curious as to what it tasted like. at first i thought it was a tourist trap, but when you have locals (and tourists) alike lining up, then it must be good. so after work on monday i decided to line up for a try :)

price 10/10 - 35 cents per puff, $5 for 20, hectik price, cheap af, make sure you buy heaps for you, friends and da fam.

cream puff 9.5/10 - soft cakey goodness then a creamy hit when you bit into the centre, plus its very small sized so great to eat as a snack. only point off was that the hot cream scalded my tongue, but gains 0.5 points because that means it was made fresh :)

service - friendly cantonese woman making the puffs, but they don't let you take pics/film the actual process

the massivelylonglines (which seem to be there all the time) put you off (as it deterred me many times) but its definitely worth it to try this delicacy!

emperor’s garden cream puffs. a chinatown institution. the lines arelongand the service is abrupt, but these hot, custard filled little balls are worth it. last night during our wait in the queue we were treated to a kid trying to master the kickflip, while his friends rated him on his form. his friend, no matter what, wouldn’t give him a 9/10 – a score reserved for the greats. at one stage he told him “you’re no tony hawk,” which is true.

kind of a rustic cantonese bakery. their products look quite out of fashion compared to some modern bakeries. but some items looked and felt very enticing! for example the super supple and spongy sponge cake. xihuahua 🐶 agreed to try their le napoléon which i lusted for alongtime.

quite interesting texture. a combination of soft and crunchy layers. certainly a very messy dessert being very crunchy. at first it seemed too sweet but over time the nuttiness kicked in, resulting in a quite good experience after all. quite good dessert if do not say so myself. they store is cramped and messy which is a down point. i would definitely grab the goodie and get the heck out asap.😟

the puffs are excellent. buttery and sweet. served hot too. loved it! grab it when there is no huge queue.

all you can say it that it is incredibly cheap and i've come here since i was a kid so it's also nostalgic to get these cream puffs after dinner. usually the line is either superlongor super short i swear there is no in between.

has always been a favourite spot in chinatown, there’s always alongline waiting but that means the food is made fresh, even thought there is a line, the cream puffs are made quickly and they are good for the price. the taste of the cream puffs are alright.

cream puff: 2/5 stars.
pros: served freshly made and very hot. i loved that it was hot. 40 cents each.
cons: size is very small, just one bite. the cream inside is too bland (like water downed), needs to be more creamy, tastes artificial and low quality ingredients. the outside pastry is not the typical western puffy pastry that i was expecting, its asian and not puffy, it tasted ok but nothing special. mostly disappointed with the cream filling.

theres alongline which moves very fast so wait is not long. u buy at the counter. it’s take away only.
