emperor's puffs always has a line and clearly these puffs are worth waiting for. they come at a very affordable price and the more you buy the cheaper it gets. we bought 10 puffs and they were fresh and hot - however don't eat them straightaway the custard will burn your tongue! the puffs are made fresh here and are one of our favourite cheap eats in chinatown.

i passed by emperor’s puffs in chinatown a few times and there was always a line up no matter what time of day! they were also really cheap so it didn’t hurt to try!. you can see the emperor’s puffs on the left. sydney’s chinatown is quite nice looking and there are actually lots of restaurants there!!! our chinatown doesn’t really have much food…it’s mostly a few grocery stores and herbal medicine shops. in their chinatown, they have some small shopping arcades and a few food courts. their grocery shopping area is indoors in an enormous building called market city which is also home to the paddy’s markets where you can buy lots of cheap asian goods like cell phone cases, knock-off purses and souvenirs. also, i must mention that they have a lot of bubble tea shops too!

this bakery is located next door to the emperor puffs where is there is an endless queue of people. it was late at night and there was not a great choice of items left but my cousin wanted to get some buns to take home as she doesn't have this much selection back at home. she bought a packet of chicken buns as well as some fresh bbq pork buns. the buns were a nice late night treat and are always tasty.

so this place is a sydney institution. every time i've walked past there's been a massive line. i'm on holidays so thought it was worth a try. lined up for about 15 minutes, it did take a while considering the amount of people there, but they were making them fresh. once i got to the front of the line i could see them making them in the little waffle type machine. they only sell cream puffs but they're very cheap 35c each, 3 for $1 or 18 for $5. i had already eaten my fair share of junk food for the day so i just got three. little tiny pillows of beautiful custard - warm and oozing out. awesome.

there's never a time i won't drop by here to grab a couple containers full of these custard puffs! i'm from interstate and it's pretty much compulsory for me to come here at each visit! love how they're made fresh right in front of you. to be honest, i don't think i've ever received a smile or hello from the worker at the window so they definitely need to improve on that side but at the end of the day is that these tastes amazing! big thumbs up! 👍🏼

new experience for me. maybe it's my own personal taste but these little pasty puffs didn't appeal to be at all. the texture is chewy and lacks flavour, the custard is just about average. glad i tried them though

fresh emperor puffs from the little hole in the wall and warm (often hot) bursts of sunshine. perfectly priced but bought only after a visit to the bakery beside. fresh custard/ egg tarts with flakey pastry, a great assortment of savoury and sweet buns. definitely worth a visit.

great selection of sweet and savory baked goods and a surperb place to buy freshly made mooncakes

the mooncakes were a bit pricy but worth the try if your new to town

seems to be a popular spot for the locals

incredibly well-priced puffs (35 cents each or 3 for $1) that are churned out fresh and hot. prepare to line up. i personally find the custard inside the puff a bit average with a gummy texture and not much flavor, but i like the waffle-like exterior.

amazing! each and every time. the only let down is the ridiculous queues..45 mins it's worth the wait but they should expand! amazing soft, steaming hot puff filled with custard mmmm 👍🏻👍🏻

waited 15 minutes in line only to be greeted by grimy and un clean equipment. cream puffs aren't really that good either, very flavourless and floppy.

can't ever walk past that little window in the wall in chinatown without stopping by for some cream puffs. very affordable, always tasty, and perfect in any weather (but even better now that it's getting a bit chillier!). definitely a sydney staple.

pretty great chinese bakery all things considering. dont be fooled by the relatively modest exterior the cake inside are actually pretty decent. love the soft spongy loaf bread they have and when its mooncake season they make pretty good ones too! (side note: do not get the super large moon cake one! only the normal sizes are good!)

always been a favourite of mine! my mum used to buy them all the time for me when she was in chinatown and always had fond memories of them. i was in the area and although it was a miserable rainy night and there was a long queue for these emperor's cream puffs, it was worth the wait. cooked to order for each person i couldn't wait to get my hands on a container of these. they are nice and fluffy and full of custardy goodness. they are especially delicious when they are hot.
