emperor’s garden cake & baker is nothing fantastic. at least, it is technically a walk-in eatery, and presumably has things to offer to those patrons who choose to select from the various pastries and chinese delicacies within the establishment. beneath the friendship arch right down the end of dixon st in the heart of chinatown, some might even say that it’s an inconvenience to slalom through the weekend night markets in order to reach the hole-in-the-wall servery.

the price for the cream puffs is really cheap. granted they’re small, but to get 3 for $1.00, it’s pretty decent bang for your buck. initially we agree we’ll get 7 for $2.00 but by the time we reach the counter we blurt out that we’d like 11 for $3.00. greed always gets the better of us!

they’re made fresh and when we get our little cream puffs they’re steaming hot. i’m excited to try these out and to see if the wait was worthwhile.

love the cream puffs here, as well as all the asian bakery items. the egg tarts are some of the best in sydney with a flakey base and sweet egg filling.

...the verdict? well, they were definitely creamy but i was very disappointed. they were a bit ‘eggy’ for my liking but olivier enjoyed them immensely. would i line up for them again? definitely not. but hey, not all was lost, i ended up making two new friends who i was able to spend my next eating adventure with!

i'd walk barefoot from melbourne for these .... the emperor's puffs from the little hole in the wall are to die for. hot delicious little filled puffs pumped out of a machine and served up fast to the long line waiting. and four for one dollar? does it get any better? i think not. run, don't walk.

a hole in the wall window that produces little custard puffs.  it's such an addictive little snack but you have to line up for a while so my advice is to buy a few to make it worth your while.   i love them but you really do need patience to purchase these little bad boys.  expect asian customer service (often unfriendly and rushing). price: 3 for 1

this is the curry beef bun i bought last night. not much filling – this was the section that had the most – and hardly any beef. there were maybe three tiny cubes inside.

my review (good food). delicious emperor puffs and bbq pork and chicken buns. i recommend this bakery to everyone. they are very affable towards their customers and the food is not too expensive. i myself like to eat their emperor puffs while slurping down a taro frappe from the nearby easyway.

it is literally like a factory going on here, the machines running constantly with one worker popping each custard puff off as soon as it is finished.
