the downstairs part of efendyrestaurantmakes you feel like you are in a meze bar in istanbul. the food is fresh and tasty, the waiting staff are warm and friendly. and then there’s the beers, gin and traditional turkish aperitifs like raki (an anised flavour aperitif). if you want a casual and fun night in the inner west, efendy is the spot! #efendy

turkishrestaurantin trendy balmain. the mezes (small plates) are good, although you’ll want to order a lot of them. eggplant dip was a winner, although the ‘eggplant bomb’ - caramelised eggplant with cheese and olive oil made at the table - sounds better than it tasted. the mains are good, the lamb probably the best option of what we had. you won’t find traditional looking kebaps here - i think efendy is going out of its way to take turkish off the street and onto the plate, but personally i wouldn’t mind some of the street back in. three stars.

fathers day family dinner at efendy. a cosyrestaurantin balmain and a lovely environment to be in on a cold bight. fireplaces created nice ambience. the service was consistent with its sisterrestaurantanason - friendly, attentive, professional, educational, personal. must try the beetroot salad, kanafeh, the eggplant and pistachio dip, hommus, the lamb!

amazing service.
amazing food.
amazing ambience.

sydney has restaurants to represent so many international flavours. but efendy remains one of its kind. the menu is truly different and actually delicious. a flavour experience you’ll find nowhere else in sydney.

every other aspect of the experience is enjoyable also! the staff are wonderful when engaged, and therestaurantitself is comfortable and very well appointed, down to the little cups to sip turkish tea from and the beautiful plates.

would recommend their roast eggplant and masticated cream eaton mess style dessert.

efendy is a contemporary turkishrestaurantin balmain which serves a range of dips, grills and salads. therestaurantfeatures a large, leafy courtyard dotted with umbrellas and a casual, relaxing mezebar with wooden coffee tables.

food at efendy is slightly pricier than other renowned middle eastern restaurants. i tried their shanklish/feta and kashar cheese pide, chicken thigh fillet and purslane salad. the grilled chicken thighs were juicy and flavourful whereas the cheese pide was crispy and delectable. portions are really small, so you may have to order more to fill your tummy.

really good guys! came here for my 20th birthday dinner a few weeks ago. as turkish cuisine isn't all that common in australia, thisrestaurantwas superb.

staff were friendly and helpful with the menu. therestaurantwas decorated so well and i loved the layout of therestaurantitself.

food was so delicious and presented well. i can remember the lamb kofte being one of the best dishes. the 'turkish mess' i had for dessert was amazing as well. i would recommend this place to anyone, especially those who appreciate middle eastern cuisine.

have enjoyed many a dinner at efendy over the years but this was the first time dining there for breakfast. it's a $32 per adult set menu which is all inclusive of breads, cheeses, olives, spreads, house made jams, fruits, vegetables and hot dishes of sucuk and scrambled eggs, which we enjoyed with turkish coffee and apple tea. (kids are $15 which includes bakery items only) it's a bountiful breakfast spread and i particularly enjoyed the simit (those sesame crusted bread rings sold from red carts across istanbul) with butter and sour cherry jam; it's the simple pleasures in life.

the service from our waitress was warm and attentive despite therestaurantbeing busy.

came here for breakfast over the weekend with my family. the set menu is versatile and really great value for $30. the menu is all inclusive and serves more than enough varieties of dips, breads, fruits and cheeses. finishing with some eggs and sujuk. the staff were attentive and friendly and therestaurantwas gorgeous. certainly would recommend the breakfast but bring an open mind to try it all and a big appetite.

we started off with the dips of capsicum humus with pastirma, pistachio chili smoked babaganush and the walnut, capsicum muhammara all came with freshly baked bread as per pictures. all the dips were delectable with the soft fresh bread.

for mains we got share plates which consisted of: zucchini, feta and walnut gozleme, bosphorus fried mussels with white tamara, white hot chicken wings with mint yoghurt and sautéed scotch fillet, capsicum, tomato, chilli, flat pide. everything was superb! quite filling for 6 people.

therestaurantalso had their own home made chilli pickles which was hot but not boiling to the point you needed milk ;p.

overall a great experience as it was my first time visiting, yet will not be my last :).

a great dining experience. finally made it to efendy's after many recommendations and it didn't disappoint. delicious food, attentive service, courses served at perfectly timed intervals and cosy indoor spot with the fireplace on. we shall return, and introduce thisrestaurantto many friends.

good food but pricey. one thing i noticed straight away was a house converted into arestaurantbut i do like the ambience inside.

service was polite and friendly and the food came out a little quicker than expected.

food wise the menu seemed limited. had the borek which was a lot better than expected. the lamb kebap was nice but the smoked eggplant and the sauce seemed to over power then taste of the lamb and the lamb was strong in taste already. the bread seemed fresh and the rice had a nice taste to its own

nil issues using entertainment book

my main gripe here would be the prices, even with the entertainment book discount. borek for $16 where i can easily get its for half the price can not be justified by myself. the serving portions were not big either. i wouldnt mind the cost so much if portion sizes were a lot bigger. we almost bought the lamb pie for 2 for $60, but we found it hard to justify even though the 2 mains were almost the same price\

overall it better than your average turkish place but i wont be back simply due to the prices they charge

with the winter chill well and truly upon us, one way of staying warm is to eat lots of meat! which brings us to efendy, an authentic turkishrestauranttucked away in the heart of balmain where we are sampling a large variety of their dishes tonight. efendy is a 3-storeyrestaurantfeaturing a different atmosphere on each level – the bottom floor is a casual bar, the middle floor is a casualrestaurantand the top floor is decked out in a more elegant way with white coloured furnishings. this is actually my first time trying turkish food so i have no expectations, but i am told that efendy’s dishes are inspired by the taksim and beyoglu districts of istanbul, and are designed to share amongst groups. our dishes are specially prepared for our party of food bloggers tonight, so the pictures/pricing should be used indicatively only as i suspect some dishes were resized to the number of people on our table. tektek shots (left: narcist, right: mastika) – $5 we start off the night with some
