before hip suburban cafes started arranging fried eggs and bacon onto heavingbreakfastplatters, turkish people laid out rich, diverse spreads for their morning meal, using ingredients better suited to a long, slow grazing meal. in turkey, breakfastis called kahvaltı, which means “before coffee”, though at efendy they let me smash mine with a turkish coffee martini ($18). it’s traditionally enjoyed with tea, and they offer up three different types, all at five bucks a glass.efendy takesbreakfastregional with their vanbreakfastfeast ($35/person), named for...

came here with the group of 4 after checking out the review and picturesque photos of brekky platter.

for drinks, we got served apple tea or black tea.
then the platter comes with the selection of jams and dips, 3 kind of cheese, ham and watermelon. we also get a plate of tomato scrambled egg, and a tiny portion of cut up sausage with side of breads

we didnt end up finishing the dips/jam as they dont even given enough bread.

the bill came up as $140 for the total, $35/person it seems didnt add up, we received the same amount of food with 3 people sitting on the next table to us.

at least for $35 per person you can get 1 and half decent portion forbreakfastin a normal cafe. keen to try other menu they offered butbreakfastmenu is tad expensive compare to what you get, i guess you pay for the experience.

beautiful location and layout. i fell in love when i first walked in. didn’t have a booking but the staff where able to find us a table, requested for outside seating since it was such beautiful weather. we got to enjoy the sun and food at the same time... how good is that? and you get unlimited refill on apple tea!!!

ordered thebreakfastgrazing board, and it felt like i took a trip back to my childhood. it had all of the little things i forgot about which made me and my tummy very happy. only downfall was.. it wasn’t enough... i felt i could eat what came comfortably by myself and feel full. and then when the cost comes into place, i was then a bit more disheartened. per person for what was given, didn’t seem fair on the ratio side of things.

i also did return with a group of 8 to try the dinner menu, again the dishes where there but they wherent filling enough for the cost. bit confusing as to which dish is bigger than the other, especially if your big eaters and you want to be satisfied, it’s a tiny bit hard. unless you get a few dishes together like they where pushing us to do (defiantly doesn’t add up cheap this way too mind you) but we didn’t do it anyways.

would i return? possibly... if i’m on a semi full stomach and want to just enjoy the atmosphere

we have been wanting to go to efendy for theirbreakfastfor a while. unfortunately as we are vegetarian the person said lunch would be better for us when we called and asked. so we decided let's do lunch then.

we started with the spicy koftas, they came with lettuce cups. our server said we need to wrap them in it and eat. we also ordered the lavash bread with butter. the bread was fresh and warm and really nice. we also ordered the salad of tomatoes, cucmber and chilli. a simple salad but really nice and fresh. for mains we went for eggplant bomb. so it's eggplant that's been charred when they bring it on the table they open it they added feta cheese and garlic oil. have to say they tasted absolutely brilliant with the bread.

for dessert we went for the pistachio type baklava with semolina cream. we were warned it could be sweet. i have grown up on indian desserts i don't think anything can get sweeter than that. this was just lovely and the cream balanced it so well.

overall it was an excellent meal, the staff were so lovely and the place really nice. the meal cost us about 72$. a place i would love to visit again.

it was such a special lunch at efendy! we had the edendy feast to enjoy many different kinds of dishes. guess what...we had amazing food!!

if you are planning to order the feast, you have to get ready for a big meal! you will be so full after this...

the staff were helpful and friendly. even though it was a hot day, the table outside was very pleasant.the food looked great and were divine. i personally enjoyed skewed chicken and lamb pizza kind of thing. and the slow cooked lamb was tender and juicy. i loved turkish mess dessert! it’s so creamy, sweet and beautifully presented.

they have specialbreakfastmenu between 9am to 2pm so i’d love to try it next time!

have enjoyed many a dinner at efendy over the years but this was the first time dining there for breakfast. it's a $32 per adult set menu which is all inclusive of breads, cheeses, olives, spreads, house made jams, fruits, vegetables and hot dishes of sucuk and scrambled eggs, which we enjoyed with turkish coffee and apple tea. (kids are $15 which includes bakery items only) it's a bountifulbreakfastspread and i particularly enjoyed the simit (those sesame crusted bread rings sold from red carts across istanbul) with butter and sour cherry jam; it's the simple pleasures in life.

the service from our waitress was warm and attentive despite the restaurant being busy.

i went there with my wife for a sunday breakfast. it was a generally positive, and i may come back to try out lunch/dinner material.

pros:
* great variety of food in thebreakfastincluding tasty bread.
* free tea refill is great!.
* nice location with beautiful outdoor seating.

cons:
* portions small.
* only 1 turkish pita offered per person

i think that if more pitas were offered, i would be fine with the portion sizes. actually, the variety is awesome, and there are different types of jam and cheese, but i did not appreciate that my only small pita was over so fast and i had to eat the rest of the cheese and jam using a fork.

on sunday morning, i got together my favourite group of girls and we headed out for an exotic middle easternbreakfast/ brunch feast at efendy, and boy was it a crowd pleaser!. we paid$30 each and got…a lot of food! so much that we were clutching our stomachs, unable to finish the banquet which was fit for a sheikh!

efendy is very popular in balmain for their banquet breakfasts and contemporary turkish meals. efendy is located on the corner of darling st and elliot st and is always full of customers. it's currently got a very high rating of 3.8/5 on zomato and i last came here for their award winningbreakfastlast year and i've always highly recommended efendy for a nice brunch. the full menu is available between 9am to 2pm and will set you back $30.
