finally! a fantastic dining experience in hattiesburg. i had just about accepted that when my job brought me to this area that i was going to have to be content with chili’s or outback, or simply grabbing jimmie johns to go back to the hotel. well, i finally wised up and asked some locals for their suggestions, and cotton blues was one of the first places discussed.

my lunch today was white beans and rice with fried chicken, along with a side of mac & cheese. excellent meal all around. perfect flavor with the beans, chicken was crispy andgoodseasoning, mac & cheese was creamy and delicious. cotton blues will be in my regular rotation!

the building is very nice. the food was fairlygoodand came as ordered. our waitress was very nice and attentive. the only issue was the manager screaming at the staff in the kitchen. we could hear it in restaurant. very unprofessional. we later found out he is the owner apparently. i couldn't imagine working there if that is how he treats his employees.

spending only one night in hattiesburg and friends took us to cotton blues. i had a redfish dish with a wonderful sauce, goodmashed potatoes with crawfish, and the best greens i've ever eaten. came with cornbread and rustic bread. husband had fried catfish, both winners with us. service was great too.

wish i were a dog.. my wife and i went there for our aniversary expecting it to havegoodfood from reading all of the results. instead i was leaving there wishing i were a dog so i could roll over and lick my own butt to get the bad taste out of my mouth. she had some type of pasta and i had the nastiest want-a -be shrimp and grits. they won't have to worry about ever serving me ever again, i'll go to waffle house before i go there.

happy anniversary cotton blues! i was one of the first customers to walk through the doors of cotton blues two years ago. as a african american female that go out alone, it is important for me to go to places that i can feel safe and welcomed! cotton blues owner, manager, chef, pastry chef and servers make me feel just that! cotton blues is a wonderful place to eat, drink, listen to live music and greet and meet others! i have met many new friends at cotton blues that look nothing like me! if i've had a bad day the owner & manager knows because they ask ! if the chef hear i'm there he will come speak to me! if i want something special from the pastry chef i call ahead and by the time i get to cotton blues, it's ready! if you like fresh never frozen food cotton blues is for you! this restaurant has no microwave ! cook to order! i know for a fact the owner of cotton blues would never allow his staff to treat others unjust! i am part of the family at cotton blues and i thank them for always making me feel that way! it is my hope that all people will give cotton clues a try, i promise you will not be disappointed, you will not be treated unjust because of the color of your skin, you will get great service andgoodfood!

disappointed with customer service..... i was given a gift card for cotton blues and i decided to stop there one evening to get a to-go order. when i walked into the restaurant, i was directed to go to the bar to make my order. i stood at the bar and was finally approached by this young lady with blonde hair asking me what did i need. she failed to greet me or let me know the daily special, thankfully i had viewed a menu online before i came because i wasn't given a menu or even asked if i wanted one. i placed my order and waited. during my waiting process, a white gentleman came in and sits at the bar (just as i did) and he was automatically greeted with a smile, the menu, and the daily specials. i was totally in awe that this type of prejudice still existed in hattiesburg especially in a restaurant. at this point, i wanted to leave but i stayed until my food was ready. my food was bagged with no eating utensils, i had to asked for something that should have been common nature. i felt as if they were trying to hurry up and get me out of there. i ordered the catfish and it wasgoodbut not to the point that i will ever eat there again. my advice to the owner of cotton blues is that money has one color and it shouldn't matter whose spending it. businesses open and close everyday in hattiesburg, just food for thought!

maybe an off day?. i was disappointed.goodideas here and i love the decor, however the execution was off. there was a large reception taking place which may have thrown off regular dining service. our waitress was distracted and inattentive, although we were her only table. the bread service was interesting and unique and flavors were good, but i had to stop someone to get them to explain components. the success of crab cakes benedict is in the timing and mine were over cooked and cold. they were also over salted and spiced which threw off the delicate crab meat and the egg, in contrast to the cold, tasteless grits. my sons steak was excellent and perfectly cooked but covered in a cheese sauce which was congealed. we were starving and had things to do so it was not worth finding the server to complain about it. the vibe was just odd overall. restaurants have days like this. we will try again because the menu is intriguing.and i hope this was a one off.

best in the burg. cotton blues is my favorite place to go out to eat in hattiesburg. it is unique for a number of reasons. the dishes offered and the ambiance are both great. the service is always fantastic and the food is great! a few of my favorites are the honey pecan crusted oysters, the rabbit tenderloin eggrolls and the crabcake for starters. the crabcake is filled with crab not too much bread crumbs. as far as a main course, the pan fried redfish was delicious this past weekend. and if you just want a burger, you cant go wrong here it was verygoodat lunch. honestly, every meal i have had there has been very very good. i've also been to brunch there a handful of times and its very good, plus you get bottomless mimosas with a starter!

my husband & i went here for our date night after looking at the menu together. we decided to sit on the patio & really enjoyed it. there are 2 tvs & these great over sized chairs that could easily seat two people. we ordered the cheese curds as the appetizer & they came with two dipping sauces. one was a mustard i really liked & the other was a sweeter sauce but when combined with the mustard sauce it all went together so well! we mostly got the cheese curds to see what they are, pretty much fried cheese but it was tangy & had agoodchew to them. let me throw in all the dish ware is so cute! anyways back to the food...
my husband ordered the salmon salad & he really enjoyed it. he was wondering with the blueberries would it be too sweet but he loved it. my order was the pulled pork pancakes first off let me say it's a huge dish, two people could share it. three gigantic pancakes & a layer of delicious pulled pork between each pancake. it came with a syrup that was amazing! i couldn't tell if it was the pancakes or the syrup but one had a great taste of lemon zest in it. this really brought out all the flavors, it would have been a little rich but that lemon zest made it perfect. this is way better than chicken & waffles! my husband had my braised greens & he rave about them all the way home, i order a side of the mac and cheese to go with my pancakes,. this mac & cheese was so good, it was elbow noodles with a breadcrumb topping made with fresh local cheese! it also had mushrooms in it & green onions on top, i'm not a fan of either but i ate that entire bowl! this place was wonderful, i want us to come on a sunday for the bottomless mimosa's & bloody mary's.

additional credit. with regard to italian wine dinner (below), credit carl vancoppenhagen (carl's wines, best wine store in town) for all things concerning wines plus coordinating the event.

promising start. cheese curds (appetizer) was accompanied by 3 fine sauces; southern fried chicken a bit dry; garlic butter shrimp had wonderful savory sauce. altogether, our food was way above average.
cotton blues is off to a verygoodstart. a few glitches among waitstaff trying to decide whose table was whose slowed things down, but once we had a dedicated waitress, all went smoothly enough.
bar is spectacular: best dry martini in town, and check for happy hour times/prices. wine list is brief but well-chosen.
altogether a welcome addition to the h'burg dining scene.

off to a great start?. having heard they had a private grand opening, i phoned for info, to be told by a person with a rather unpleasant voice that they might open to the public by week's end for dinner only. this person added, "but you'll have to make reservations."
i was tempted to ask just how i was to make a reservation when they weren't even open yet, but instead i just hung up.

best brunch and desserts in town!. by far, the best sunday brunch in town. the menu offers great variety for agoodprice. the bar staff is outstanding, jordan, drew and robert offer great service, would prefer to sit at the bar rather than a table because of this. atmosphere is great, especially the open view to pastry chef sean's delicious creations! if you haven't tried this place yet, hurry!!
