coconuts fish cafe

we discovered coconuts a few years ago and wanted to come back here on this visit to maui. we enjoyed the hawaiian feeling, especially the tables in the shape of surfboards.

the menu focuses mostly on island fish like mahimahi and ono. chicken and beef are available. there are salads, tacos, dinner plates, and soups. you order from the counter and they bring thefoodto your table. there is both indoor and outdoor seating. it is a very popular place. service and staff are helpful and friendly. they have opened a second restaurant near the kamaole beaches. the one we ate at is in the azeka shopping center.

their fish is very fresh and thefoodis very tasty. the local any style fish dish can be cooked six different ways.

a casual restaurant right across the street from one of the best (sunset) beaches in maui.
place order at counter and find a seat at a wood carved surfboard table. the line moves fairly quickly. worth the wait. service is on point.

thick meaty cubes of fresh mahi mahi and ono, a light coconut milk mayo coleslaw, and a generous topping of mango tomato salsa in a lightly crisp warm double corn tortilla...
a delicious handful. the smart hawaiian twist of using coconut milk instead of conventional mayo makes it surprisingly light tasting, not heavy at all.
i folded in half and enjoyed every messy bite.
tip: use a fork to help lighten the load of toppings!
you get to savour two times ($12.75 for twin tacos - may seem pricey but flavourful and very filling). colourful, bright, light and fresh - a symbol of everything that is maui!
we all agreed it was the best fish taco we've eaten on the island.
we also tried the coconut shrimp with shaved coconut, battered and fried to crispy perfection served with pineapple chili sauce, and it too was finger licking good.
thefoodwas so tasty we went back the next day.
oh and coconut’s is named in honour of the family kitty cat (who passed away this past november - rip coconut).

coconut’s fish cafe is a small casual restaurant in the azeka mauka shopping center in kihei.  it is at 1279 south kihei road.  phone 808-875-9979. at coconut’s, you order at a counter, they prepare yourfoodquickly, and then you pick it up at the counter and eat at tables shaped like surfboards.  their specialties are fish tacos, fish & chips, and fish “burgers” (fish filet sandwiches).  their fish & chips is healthier than at most places, because it has a light coating and is not greasy.  in 2013, coconuts was named by cnn as one of the top ten places in the country to “eat like a local.”  see below for photos and a list of some of their menu items.

fun atmosphere, fast service andfoodfor everyone. my son had chicken alfredo, it was shockingly delicious. this was a huge portion that could be shared. i had the taco mountain, it was missing a tortilla, and when asked if i could buy some was told no, with that being said it was still amazing. get the seafood chowder it is amazing. the fish and chips was mediocre and get the blackened mahi mahi it's pretty good.

"17 ingredients" and they won't tell you if it's their spices or toppings!? i'm not looking to "steal" the recipe, i just want to know if it's something that can be removed! a lot of hoopla over nothing. ended up ordering the mahi-mahi burger, that was tasty, but for $14, you'd think you would get a least a side of their tiny portioned coleslaw. will not be going back. much betterfoodelsewhere in maui.

fish tacos are large and delicious! order them with a bowl of the brown rice and eat your tacos over the rice to catch all thefoodthat drops from your tacos. then add some chalula to the rice and you have a great dish to eat or to take home. highly recommend this restaurant.

this is hands down the best casual dining in wailea, and perhaps even maui. we are from chicago wherefoodis generally outstanding. coconuts fish cafe met and exceeded our expectations. phenomenal fish tacos, fried shrimp and chowder. plenty of food. reasonably priced. friendly staff. we keep coming back here everyday of our trip.

nice and easy food!. this is a great lunch or light dinner spot. it's a walk up and order place, take a seat and yourfoodshows up in an appropriate amount of time, indicating they cooked it just for you. we had one order of blackened ono on brown rice plus one order of their fish tacos, both dishes were delicious. it's a bummer they won't sell you just one taco as that would have been plenty for me. of course, it wasn't like i was suffering as i finished off the second because it was so good!!

best fish tacos!. this place is great! fastfoodand friendly service. the clam chowder and fish tacos were fantastic. the flavours were great! the tacos are stacked so high that its hard to fit it all in your mouth! the chef/owner even came out to help clear off dishes and talked to me for a few minutes, telling me about some of the fresh ingredients in the tacos, and how things are prepared there.

great gluten-free fish tacos!. this is a gem! thefoodis made from scratch. there are 2 gluten free options on the menu: fish tacos on white corn tortillas that come with cole slaw, papaya and salsa on top, or fish over brown rice plates with tartar sauce, tomato, and more. either option is $12, and very filling. very casual, very nice.

really good fish tacos and fishburgers. if you want really fresh fish, done really well this is the place. very casual atmosphere, a couple of outdoor tables. inside the restaurant is usually warm and the seats are not the most comfortable. but wow thefoodis good. we have been here several times during our two stays on the island and have not been dissapointed yet. i recommend the mahi mahi fish tacos, super ono. the calamari and fish and chips are very good too. staff is friendly and we have met the owner a couple of times now, very pleasant casual dining experience at good prices - you won't go wrong here.
