perfeccion!. thisplaceis simply amazing. order anything "al pastor" on the menu and you won't be disappointed. in the sea of salt lake city cookie-cutter mexican food restaurants, chungas stands above the rest. the food is great and they have a lot of interesting menu items that you don't see elsewhere like huaraches, gorditas, sopes, and pambazos. my personal faves are the enchiladas, corn quesadillas, and gorditas.

i recommend thisplaceto everyone who will listen. i wish i could eat here every day. if you like places like cafe rio, just eat here instead. way better. i like the stuff that has the most fresh ingredients, like the nachos or salad or something. all ingredients are very fresh and good quality and they don't skimp on dishing them out. that's why my favorite thing to get is the nachos al pastor. tons of cheese, avacado, meat, and not filled with mostly rice like cafe rio stuff can be. i can make anything i get here into two meals, one the next day from my leftovers. another crazy delicious thing is their fresh juice. i don't know how they do it but it tastes real and amazing, no matter the time of year too. i know people like the hot meals like tacos and stuff but i seriously love all the stuff they put in the nachos better than anything else. the atmosphere is cool too. i just sit back and admire the way the family runs such a nice littleplacetogether and with such high quality food. gotta love the guys' signature spiky hair too. awesome. oh, don't forget to get a loyalty card, you'll be back.

wow! fresh is the key!. we were amazed! a small restaurant with an open kitchen, friendly staff and amazing food. thisplacehad food worth writing home about. fresh avocados, tomatoes, the meats were generous and flavorful. the beans and rice were delicious and neither was runny slop. we went late and they were out of the al pastor. that was ok because every meal we ordered was great. i highly recommend. highly!

simply delicious. at first sight i was hesitant but all i can say now is don't judge a book by its cover. all though the location and the outside of the establishment aren't much to look at, the inside is clean, the staff is pleasant and for those of you wondering, yes they speak english and the food is simply delicious. my husband is from mexico and loves taco al pastor, he always complains that there is not aplacein utah that can make them right, then we tried thisplaceand he was shocked. the plus is he found aplacethat makes great tacos al pastor, the downfall he wants to eat there at least once a week...we live half an hour away. so if your looking for delicious mexican food and great service i definitely recommend chungas.

say 'si' to al pastor. thisplaceis fantastic. anyone who likes mexican food has to try this one. when you walk in, right behind the counter you can see the al pastor in all it's pineapple juicy spicy porky savory and sweet goodness roasting away. order it! i would get buried in this avalanche of flavor on a daily basis if i could. just about everything in the food was delicious. the beans, the rice, the meat, and also the verde were all very tasty.

don't use the excuse that it's just slightly on the wrong side of the tracks to avoid going. put your game face on, walk to the other side, and then marvel that you ever were worried about walking in. your bravery will be rewarded.

worth driving to !. i have never lived near thisplacebut it has always been worth the drive, even when i moved even further away. it is the best mexican food in slc, maybe even the state!
a fun little hole in the wall with great workers and incredible food!! just writing this is making me crave their chicken burrito. my husband and i have tried several meals there and they're all amazing, as are the chips and salsa (the mark of a true great mexican restaurant).

utah has a lot of great mexican food. there's no denying that. if authentic mexico city style mexican is what you're after however, chunga's is theplaceto go. located in rose park, chunga's is a diamond in the rough and given a five star rating from urbanspoon.com . most recommend getting the al pastor on your first visit (it's to die for), but no matter what meal you choose, you can be positive it will be packed to the brim with flavor and freshness. the one thing you cannot leave without is a heaping glass of agua de piña . frothy and sweet, that drink alone will have you coming back for more. don't be intimidated by the authenticity. the bilingual staff at chunga's is friendly and welcoming. next time you're in the area, don't be afraid to walk in and treat yourself to this mexican treasure. you can try to deny the craving for that cheesy goodness above, but we recommend just getting some for yourself. you won't regret it. chunga's 180 so

the great thing about finding good mexican food off the beaten path is that you don't have to wait in line. walk right up,placeyour order, and find a seat. five minutes later, you're enjoying your enchiladas, heaps of beans and rice, washed down by your favorite soft drink. you can worry about the calories later. in the meantime, get off the beaten path and head over to chunga's and enjoy that good mexican food. over in rose park on 900 west, chunga's doesn't look like much. more than meets the eye, though, and it's worth checking out. the menu is simple, but looks written for a mixed clientage of native spanish speakers and local gringos. i ordered my standard enchiladas with rice and beans. while we waited, we were treated to restaurant style chips and salsa, the kind that you can't stop eating. at most mexican restaurants, the chips are long gone, along with my appetite, before the food arrives. today, though, my order arrived before i could down more than three or for chips. and

fantastic al pastor. thisplaceserves some of the best al pastor that i've ever tasted - super moist with a hint of pineapple. the home-made chips and salsas are great too. this is a must for anyone that loves mexican food.

heads above the rest!. chunga's is a shining jewel is a sketchy part of town. they really do have the best al pastor around. tacos are a bit higher priced here than other places at $2 each but come stuffed with a lot more meat than average. i'm hooked on their wonderfully seasoned chicken tacos, stuffed with big chunks of tender chicken breast, not that nasty boiled, shredded stuff you get elsewhere. their tortas are also very good, filling and well priced. they aren't stuff full of veggies like other places, but they are very generous with their meats. the bread they use is large, soft, and has a very fresh taste.
service is some of the friendliest around, they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. sure it's a hole in the wall, but they keep it spotless clean. the dining area has a low ceiling and slightly claustrophobic feel, but has undergone a recent renovation with some pleasant ceramic tiling on the walls.
bottom line, thisplacehas some of the best authentic mexican food in the state. run, don't walk!
