ok people, i’m not a pork eater but i dream about the the elpastorat chungas. i love the elpastorenchiladas and the quesadilla. it’s not your everyday quesadilla! the mango drink is a must have and i happen to have a mild allergy to mango but i will gladly leave chungas a little bit itchier. it’s family run, small and worth the line!

i've spent many years in latin countries and this is far and away the most authentic food i've ever had in the salt lake area. the alpastorthat everyone raves about will not disappoint. i like the burrito but it is huge. plus the rice and beans that i typically ignore at most mexican restaurants is every bit as good as the rest of the meal. and don't forget to get one of their juice drinks. ah chungas is the best!!!

...try the alpastor(spit grilled pork) on whatever dish i decided to go with… so i went with the tacos al pastor. they did not disappoint. the spicy pork went really well with the sweet pineapple chunks. i’d also recommend trying the chips and salsa and asking to sample all 4 salsas. save some to pour on top of your tacos.

was okay. went last friday after reading some of the reviews. i can't take real spicy food unfortunately and was told the chicken for tacos was not. it was. i tried the alpastorand it was slightly spicy but good. very small portions for the costs. they aren't regular small tacos but tiny. they only have one meno on the counter by register so you can't see what they have until you get up there. people stacked up behind you so you feel you have to make quick decision. had to go ask for my chips and salsas quite a while after my meal came. costly for lunch, over $10 without drink. may try one more time something else as i was still hungry after.

that was great!. i tried chunga's tonight. i was a little hesitant but based on all the great reviews, i thought i'd give it a go. i have to say, it did not disappoint. i tried the enchiladas with alpastorfor my choice of meat. i ask them for no cilantro (vile weed) as i am allergic to it. when i got back to work (got it to go), i discovered that the guy at the counter apparently didn't understand "no cilantro" because while they did not cover it with pico de gallo, the sauce definitely had cilantro in it (not overwhelming though - it was not listed in the ingredients on the menu either). it was so good, i ate it anyway. as a matter of fact, i couldn't stop eating it, and right now, i am sitting here wishing i had more of the alpastormeat.. i will definitely be going back!!

say 'si' to al pastor. this place is fantastic. anyone who likes mexican food has to try this one. when you walk in, right behind the counter you can see the alpastorin all it's pineapple juicy spicy porky savory and sweet goodness roasting away. order it! i would get buried in this avalanche of flavor on a daily basis if i could. just about everything in the food was delicious. the beans, the rice, the meat, and also the verde were all very tasty.

don't use the excuse that it's just slightly on the wrong side of the tracks to avoid going. put your game face on, walk to the other side, and then marvel that you ever were worried about walking in. your bravery will be rewarded.

utah has a lot of great mexican food. there's no denying that. if authentic mexico city style mexican is what you're after however, chunga's is the place to go. located in rose park, chunga's is a diamond in the rough and given a five star rating from urbanspoon.com . most recommend getting the alpastoron your first visit (it's to die for), but no matter what meal you choose, you can be positive it will be packed to the brim with flavor and freshness. the one thing you cannot leave without is a heaping glass of agua de piña . frothy and sweet, that drink alone will have you coming back for more. don't be intimidated by the authenticity. the bilingual staff at chunga's is friendly and welcoming. next time you're in the area, don't be afraid to walk in and treat yourself to this mexican treasure. you can try to deny the craving for that cheesy goodness above, but we recommend just getting some for yourself. you won't regret it. chunga's 180 so

diamond in the rough!. i was definitely skeptical the first time my friend brought me to chungas and now it has soared to the top of my favorite restaurants list.

the alpastor(in any form) is definitely the way to go for your first visit but don't discount the other menu items, these guys don't rely on just one star dish to stay in business. the steak and chicken plates are very good, and their fresh fruit drinks are very refreshing.

they have renovated quite a bit since my first visit and have recently put in a bed of cement for their covered outdoor patio, complete with overhanging mist hoses.

on a hot day, sitting under the shaded patio with a plate of alpastortacos can be more relaxing than a day spa. well, at least for me.

fantastic al pastor. this place serves some of the best alpastorthat i've ever tasted - super moist with a hint of pineapple. the home-made chips and salsas are great too. this is a must for anyone that loves mexican food.

heads above the rest!. chunga's is a shining jewel is a sketchy part of town. they really do have the best alpastoraround. tacos are a bit higher priced here than other places at $2 each but come stuffed with a lot more meat than average. i'm hooked on their wonderfully seasoned chicken tacos, stuffed with big chunks of tender chicken breast, not that nasty boiled, shredded stuff you get elsewhere. their tortas are also very good, filling and well priced. they aren't stuff full of veggies like other places, but they are very generous with their meats. the bread they use is large, soft, and has a very fresh taste.
service is some of the friendliest around, they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. sure it's a hole in the wall, but they keep it spotless clean. the dining area has a low ceiling and slightly claustrophobic feel, but has undergone a recent renovation with some pleasant ceramic tiling on the walls.
bottom line, this place has some of the best authentic mexican food in the state. run, don't walk!
