that was great!. i triedchunga'stonight. i was a little hesitant but based on all the great reviews, i thought i'd give it a go. i have to say, it did not disappoint. i tried the enchiladas with al pastor for my choice of meat. i ask them for no cilantro (vile weed) as i am allergic to it. when i got back to work (got it to go), i discovered that the guy at the counter apparently didn't understand "no cilantro" because while they did not cover it with pico de gallo, the sauce definitely had cilantro in it (not overwhelming though - it was not listed in the ingredients on the menu either). it was so good, i ate it anyway. as a matter of fact, i couldn't stop eating it, and right now, i am sitting here wishing i had more of the al pastor meat.. i will definitely be going back!!

utah has a lot of great mexican food. there's no denying that. if authentic mexico city style mexican is what you're after however, chunga'sis the place to go. located in rose park, chunga'sis a diamond in the rough and given a five star rating from urbanspoon.com . most recommend getting the al pastor on your first visit (it's to die for), but no matter what meal you choose, you can be positive it will be packed to the brim with flavor and freshness. the one thing you cannot leave without is a heaping glass of agua de piña . frothy and sweet, that drink alone will have you coming back for more. don't be intimidated by the authenticity. the bilingual staff atchunga'sis friendly and welcoming. next time you're in the area, don't be afraid to walk in and treat yourself to this mexican treasure. you can try to deny the craving for that cheesy goodness above, but we recommend just getting some for yourself. you won't regret it.chunga's180 so

omg good!. as others have said, chunga'sis indeed a diamond in the rough or a shining star.

albeit in a bad part of town (with a police unit in front tonight), i knew we had made a good choice as soon as we walked in the door. the smells and the smiles...

unlike everyone else here, we did not try the famous al pastor. we started off with the chips and homemade salsas (four different kinds). they had me at the chips. we also had a tacos plate (w steak) and enchiladas with chicken (not shredded). i can earnestly say these are the best enchiladas i've ever had. not only was the chicken perfectly seasoned and cooked, the enchilada sauce (green) is to die for. the enchiladas are better than any i've had in mexico and just as cheap. : )

i'm not even a big fan of mexican food and i could eat here every week!

the great thing about finding good mexican food off the beaten path is that you don't have to wait in line. walk right up, place your order, and find a seat. five minutes later, you're enjoying your enchiladas, heaps of beans and rice, washed down by your favorite soft drink. you can worry about the calories later. in the meantime, get off the beaten path and head over tochunga'sand enjoy that good mexican food. over in rose park on 900 west, chunga'sdoesn't look like much. more than meets the eye, though, and it's worth checking out. the menu is simple, but looks written for a mixed clientage of native spanish speakers and local gringos. i ordered my standard enchiladas with rice and beans. while we waited, we were treated to restaurant style chips and salsa, the kind that you can't stop eating. at most mexican restaurants, the chips are long gone, along with my appetite, before the food arrives. today, though, my order arrived before i could down more than three or for chips. and

heads above the rest!.chunga'sis a shining jewel is a sketchy part of town. they really do have the best al pastor around. tacos are a bit higher priced here than other places at $2 each but come stuffed with a lot more meat than average. i'm hooked on their wonderfully seasoned chicken tacos, stuffed with big chunks of tender chicken breast, not that nasty boiled, shredded stuff you get elsewhere. their tortas are also very good, filling and well priced. they aren't stuff full of veggies like other places, but they are very generous with their meats. the bread they use is large, soft, and has a very fresh taste.
service is some of the friendliest around, they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. sure it's a hole in the wall, but they keep it spotless clean. the dining area has a low ceiling and slightly claustrophobic feel, but has undergone a recent renovation with some pleasant ceramic tiling on the walls.
bottom line, this place has some of the best authentic mexican food in the state. run, don't walk!
