top 10. i have been eating here for over 10 years, at some point i think the management changed and some of the dishes changed not for the best. for me it has always been reliable good quality food. mussels not always great but i find that at a lot of places depending on the season, only on a few occasions have i been disappointed with specific servers who were not long term employees as i can recognize the ones who have been there for years. great caesar salad, gamberi all aglio, most appetizers are good, alfredo is good, their mixed drinks arent the best but before a night out on whyte its a great place to eat.

still a good, reliable option. a friend and i had supper here this past saturday night, and i can definitely say it was still a good, reliable option. the wine we thought was sort of expensive, although the house white was decently priced and still decently tasty. they would also do well to space the tables slightly more apart and maybe put some sort of sound baffles up to at least somewhat minimize the ambient noise and the people at the table next to you gawking at you (although this may simply have been rude diners and nothing to do with the restaurant at all). depite that, the food was still good, solid, tasty food. the veal and shrimp on my friend's entree were unfortunately initially both overdone, but when this was mentioned, the entire entree was recooked with no question, and much apology and haste. i'd say it was still an overall favourable evening ... a good, reliable standard.

chianti birthday letdown. we reserved a table for four to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday. while the food was mediocre and nothing really to complain about, the service was less than average. if you want hot edible food quickly, then by all means go to chiantis. however, do not go if: 1. you enjoy good attentive service 2. you have a special occasion 3. don't like to be rushed 4. want a photo taken by your server to commemorate the occasion.

quick, affordable, reliable pasta. if you are looking for real italian food, don't go here. however, if you're looking for reliable, affordable and a quick pasta dinner, chianti never disappoints. we go here year after year during the fringe to grab a quick bite to eat in between shows, and their food is always consistent. although it's not gourmet and it's not new, this long established restaurant on whyte avenue will always carry your favorites and will always taste the way you remembered.

i dine here for lunch probably at least once every few montgs. the service is excellent consistently! i always have their curry based pasta, it is amazing. their caesar salads are crisp and fresh. expect to be satisfied after a meal here!

i come here about once a month and it is usually pretty good but can be hit and miss. 4 out of 5 times it is good but it depends almost completely on your server and their attitude. there tends to be high turnover here.

italian stallion of whyte ave. chianti's is where friends take there friends.places come for what i would call the some of the best italian food i have ever had. i know when my friends took me there i was not sure what to expect but i was so glad i ate there. the food is great, (excellent value and portions,) and there wine list is superb and the service is enjoyable. during busy times make sure to make a reservation. parking here is the only thing i dislike. there is a lot behind chiantis that you can pay for.

solid overall. have dined at chianti several times over the past 6 years. consistently good, comfort pasta dishes each time although bread is just standard bulk dinner rolls. pasta is claimed to be home-made, and you can taste it. try the fettucine supremo (very nice curry sauce with smoked salmon) or fiorentina. good value, with most pasta dishes between $12 and 15, although this is half price on pasta tuesdays! if you're in the area and want to eat solid italian food for a good price, try chianti. if you want more upscale, try sorrentino's or il pasticcio. if you want eclectic, try corso 32.

food: 7.5/10
service: 7/10
ambience: 7/10
value: 8.5/10
overall: 8/10

*overall is separate score, not aggregate/average score

good enough. i like this place, although it doesn't necessarily blow your mind. i have come across one or two dishes that really underwhelmed me here (e.g. carbonara), but i come here quite often for the pasta frenzy and i find it to be good quality for the price. most of the pastas are good - i like the veal canneloni, which are filled with a ton of very tender ground veal; tortellini marchese; fettuccine diabolo. my boyfriend loves the fried mozza triangles. as far as non-pasta entrees, i've tried the sole in lemon butter and that was quite good, as well. i also love the callebaut chocolate mousse that is on special on monday and tuesday.

the only thing i really dislike here is the tiramisu....it has zero coffee taste to it and is way too sweet and fluffy, feels like you are eating cool whip.

chianti's used to be my favorite restaurant, but i've found it to be rather hit-and-miss lately. the first time i had their lasagna, i was incredibly impressed and it became my favorite dish there. but when i had it again a couple weeks ago, it was nothing special. i wonder if perhaps it is under new management now.

good area & ambience but questionable ethics. we were part of a group from several places across canada. there is an excitement about the old strathcona area of edmonton where the restaurant is located. the well preserved unique architechure and decoration of the restaurant contributed to an entertaining evening. most of us enjoyed our food but several ordered "linguini modigliani" and felt cheated. the menu described the entre as "prawns, scallops, mussels, peas, prairie fire hot sauce, fresh tomatoes, cream, curry and wine. served over linguini". our entre did not/not have any scallops or prawns in it and the sauce tasted like a simple tomato sauce without any cream or curry. the 'linguini' was a fat pasta with serated edges. since this was the same result for several of us, the only conclusion is that either the cook/cooks did not do their job, or the management is using questionable ethics and misleading advertising to its customers.

bad. came for lunch one day, not impressed. restaurant needs a facelift, and looked worn out. food was horrid, pasta was overcooked and the sauce was grainy. disgusting.
