have not been to this restaurant in years, once inside it appears to be the same, still comfy. service is friendly, chatty and took care of us quite well. for starters the wine selection is pretty good.
on to dinner.. bruschetta and mozza appetizers. not great, bruschetta is missing garlic and the baked mozza and itssauceare both a little disappointing. main courses of lasagna and gorgonzola ravioli. lasagna has great flavor and is loaded with meat, the ravioli really taste of gorgonzola both served with warm buns.
the food is pretty good here but the service and value are great.

i recently ate here as part of a group xmas party. as a group, we had the group menu which includes soup or salad, pasta entree and dessert. several of my group chose the fettuccine supremo. i've never before encountered such weird funky thick doughy noodles passed off as fettuccine. yes, i have had homemade fettuccine. the noodles were 2-3x normal thickness like noodles that are not properly cooked and have stuck together. such a shame because thesaucewas pretty good otherwise. all of us except one only ate about half and didn't bother getting it to go...i know i wouldn't have eaten it later and i don't like waste. the one guy who finished his loved it however and has had it before. 1/5 people liking is pretty bad imo though and they should rethink their noodles...or don't call it fettuccine. seriously, you couldn't even roll one with a fork and had to cut it in pieces to eat it. also annoyed that the group menu only gives a choice of pasta or pasta...what gives?
otherwise the service was friendly.

don't waste your money here!. i have been to chianti twice. the first time was so-so. great service, food came out quickly and hot. but nothing great.

the second time, however, was absolutely terrible. two different pasta dishes came out with the pasta noodles literally so overcooked they were mushy and falling apart. and thesaucetasted like something you get from a chef boyardee can. two barely eaten plates at the end of the lunch, and the server asked no questions. must be a common occurrence where the food is too gross to eat.

this is an italian restaurant! the pasta is what people come for and that's what you serve them?

will never be back, despite it being very close to work!

chef ramsay would be disappointed. otherwise it was pretty good. the pesto in thesaucewas not a strong as before but the cremesaucewas delicious. the chicken was a tad bit dry but in the cremesaucemade it good. there were a few artichoke hearts in it and the red pepper was a good color contrast.

no. just no. food was horrible. breaded fish coated in a tomatosauceso it ended up soggy when it came. boring veggies. only thing that tasted good was the zucchini.

bland, chunky overcooked pasta. i went there with my husband to celebrate our 8th anniversary, the place was packed, great atmosphere, we each ordered pasta, i had the chianti's tortellini...tortellini are super big supper thick you can only eat one at the time and you have a mouthful of unsalted overcooked pasta, they tossed 4 pieces (i counted ) of prosciutto and maybe like8 thin slices of mushroom in a pretty bland alfredosauce(not the taste of cheese as they say). first thing i did was cover with salt and chilli flakes. my husbands pasta was the same like some kid made spaghetti with play dough no flavor, and the peas unleashed a frozen flavor to the hole dish. they offered a second glass of wine but took too long to bring it by the time they did we were "done". i'd like to see the chef try to eat his dishes...terrible

terrible experience. my girlfriend and i attended the chianti's on whyte on a friday evening. i wasn't happy with the place as soon as i entered the restaurant. we stood at the front for nearly 10 mins before someone came to seat us. the service was terrible, and the food was horrific. my girlfriend and i both got two different types of pasta and both tasted bland. thesauceof gross and the pasta was tasteless. i would not recommend this place to anyone.

#fullpost{display:inline;} steve writes in about chianti , which is amanda's favourite place for gluten free pasta. we love to eat there, but always forget to take a picture and blog about it. i guess we take it for granted because we eat their all the time. ...chianti's in the university/whyte ave area in edmonton. with the exception of the high level dinner i have yet to find a restaurant with staff as knowledgeable about celiacs disease. almost any item on their menu can be ordered and substituted for gluten free pasta or you can create your own pasta dish by choosing thesauceand any other add-ons (spicy italian sausage is my favorite). they also have several awards from various celiac associations and have been serving gluten free pasta for some time. i simply can't recommend them enough, there may be some restaurants capable of matching their quality of service to those with celiacs disease but certainly none can beat it. in addition to the whyte avenue location they now have a

solid overall. have dined at chianti several times over the past 6 years. consistently good, comfort pasta dishes each time although bread is just standard bulk dinner rolls. pasta is claimed to be home-made, and you can taste it. try the fettucine supremo (very nice currysaucewith smoked salmon) or fiorentina. good value, with most pasta dishes between $12 and 15, although this is half price on pasta tuesdays! if you're in the area and want to eat solid italian food for a good price, try chianti. if you want more upscale, try sorrentino's or il pasticcio. if you want eclectic, try corso 32.

food: 7.5/10

good area & ambience but questionable ethics. we were part of a group from several places across canada. there is an excitement about the old strathcona area of edmonton where the restaurant is located. the well preserved unique architechure and decoration of the restaurant contributed to an entertaining evening. most of us enjoyed our food but several ordered "linguini modigliani" and felt cheated. the menu described the entre as "prawns, scallops, mussels, peas, prairie fire hot sauce, fresh tomatoes, cream, curry and wine. served over linguini". our entre did not/not have any scallops or prawns in it and thesaucetasted like a simple tomatosaucewithout any cream or curry. the 'linguini' was a fat pasta with serated edges. since this was the same result for several of us, the only conclusion is that either the cook/cooks did not do their job, or the management is using questionable ethics and misleading advertising to its customers.
