overall i think chianti is a good place to go for casual italian dinner. it is not too expensive, big portion and good/ok service. the decor is very fitting for a casual italianrestaurant(i didn't po

not so much.... ate there last week and although therestaurantis in a prime location and very pleasant looking i did not care for the food. the minestrone was like a bad home-made soup and there wasn't a bean or a piece of pasta in my entire portion... just basically big chunks of carrot, over done cabbage and the like in a very poor broth. my main course was sloppy, oversauced and very bland and the fact that the pasta was obviously home-made didn't improve the dish or rescue it from its lack of flavor. would not go back.

came here with some colleagues after work last week. despite having therestaurantpractically to ourselves service was slow. on the upside, food isn't very expensive. i'd recommend sticking to the pasta menu which will give you the best bang for your buck. its not going to blow you away but i'll come back some day.

have not been to thisrestaurantin years, once inside it appears to be the same, still comfy. service is friendly, chatty and took care of us quite well. for starters the wine selection is pretty good.
on to dinner.. bruschetta and mozza appetizers. not great, bruschetta is missing garlic and the baked mozza and its sauce are both a little disappointing. main courses of lasagna and gorgonzola ravioli. lasagna has great flavor and is loaded with meat, the ravioli really taste of gorgonzola both served with warm buns.
the food is pretty good here but the service and value are great.

excellent. wow, what a great christmas party we had (23 people).if you want amazing food, amazing service, and a beautiful atmosphere thisrestaurantis for you. our server was there to help us the whole evening, she always made sure that we were looked after no matter what the situation was. we were having such a good time we spent almost 3.5 hours at therestaurantand the servers kept coming back and looking after us and making sure that we were happy. even the manager stopped by so many times to make sure that everything was good, and it was amazing!! if you want a truly amazing evening for christmas party or to dine out you need to go to chianti!!!

greatrestaurantbig thank you to the management and chianti staff for making my birthday so special. everyone greets you with warm smile and "hello", and it really makes you feel like a welcomed costumers or long time friend. you can also tell that a lot of their customers are repeat customers, who they even greet by name so you know they've been there more than once or twice. secondly, food was very good. was there june 15 for first time and can't wait to go back.

do not recommend at all. my husband and i travel and we use urbanspoon to select good restaurants when we go out of town. this is the worst one we have been to. the service was so slow that if we did not get serviced within 5 minutes we were walking out. that was after wating 15min for someone to notice us. we were very hungry and having skipped lunch the waitress failed to tell us how large the dishes were when we ordered. we could not believe the size of the antipasto for 2. this was not even antipasto it was just a heap of deep fried, stomach upsetting, unappetizing food. the waitress shoild have told us the size of the appetizer especially when we were ordering a full meal thereafter. i guess she wanted to chalk up our bill. the main course was overcooked. my husband had the combo of cannelonii, fettucinni and veap parmaseam. i truly believe they passed off the lasgna noodles as canneloni. my husband could not eat the veal because it looked so unappetizing and i could not even look at it on the plate so i covered it up with the overcooked fettuccini. the plate was cleared from the table less than half eaten. my lasgna was overcooked. my plate was cleared and it was not even a quarter eaten. we were asked how our meal was i mentioned it was overcooked. she just looked at us for a while then said she was sorry. i did not want my money back or special treatment but the nonchalent attitude was so disconcerning especially for the service industry. for the $80 we spent for two it was the worst experience my hustand and have ever had and we love to eat out and enjoy a good meal. having worked in the service industry i am a very good tipper but i could not even bring myself to leave this server orrestaurantmore than $5. i give thisrestaurantan "f:'

#fullpost{display:inline;} steve writes in about chianti , which is amanda's favourite place for gluten free pasta. we love to eat there, but always forget to take a picture and blog about it. i guess we take it for granted because we eat their all the time. ...chianti's in the university/whyte ave area in edmonton. with the exception of the high level dinner i have yet to find arestaurantwith staff as knowledgeable about celiacs disease. almost any item on their menu can be ordered and substituted for gluten free pasta or you can create your own pasta dish by choosing the sauce and any other add-ons (spicy italian sausage is my favorite). they also have several awards from various celiac associations and have been serving gluten free pasta for some time. i simply can't recommend them enough, there may be some restaurants capable of matching their quality of service to those with celiacs disease but certainly none can beat it. in addition to the whyte avenue location they now have a

love it.. we go here for work lunches. one of the only places we ever agree upon. their service is so fast and the food is very tasty. they even have gluten free options for one of our members that has crones. thisrestaurantsuits everyone and is not that expensive. definitely give it a try. someone said the decor is dated, but it feels homey and the servers are kind and quick. i've never had a negative experience.

still a good, reliable option. a friend and i had supper here this past saturday night, and i can definitely say it was still a good, reliable option. the wine we thought was sort of expensive, although the house white was decently priced and still decently tasty. they would also do well to space the tables slightly more apart and maybe put some sort of sound baffles up to at least somewhat minimize the ambient noise and the people at the table next to you gawking at you (although this may simply have been rude diners and nothing to do with therestaurantat all). depite that, the food was still good, solid, tasty food. the veal and shrimp on my friend's entree were unfortunately initially both overdone, but when this was mentioned, the entire entree was recooked with no question, and much apology and haste. i'd say it was still an overall favourable evening ... a good, reliable standard.

quick, affordable, reliable pasta. if you are looking for real italian food, don't go here. however, if you're looking for reliable, affordable and a quick pasta dinner, chianti never disappoints. we go here year after year during the fringe to grab a quick bite to eat in between shows, and their food is always consistent. although it's not gourmet and it's not new, this long establishedrestauranton whyte avenue will always carry your favorites and will always taste the way you remembered.

good area & ambience but questionable ethics. we were part of a group from several places across canada. there is an excitement about the old strathcona area of edmonton where therestaurantis located. the well preserved unique architechure and decoration of therestaurantcontributed to an entertaining evening. most of us enjoyed our food but several ordered "linguini modigliani" and felt cheated. the menu described the entre as "prawns, scallops, mussels, peas, prairie fire hot sauce, fresh tomatoes, cream, curry and wine. served over linguini". our entre did not/not have any scallops or prawns in it and the sauce tasted like a simple tomato sauce without any cream or curry. the 'linguini' was a fat pasta with serated edges. since this was the same result for several of us, the only conclusion is that either the cook/cooks did not do their job, or the management is using questionable ethics and misleading advertising to its customers.
