while my time at woodberry kitchen is often one of a great experience, my visit this past friday was not one i would like to relive and has me questioning whether or not i will be revisiting the establishment in the future and most importantly the area itself. understandably, there is not a lot of available parking near the restaurant. between the glass blowing factory, countless town-homes, law offices and architectural firms you’ll be lucky if you to find a parking spot and usually i would have parked valet, but it was full. so, i parked directly across from the town homes on the rock covered lot, populated with lots of other vehicles whom i'm sure belonged to people visiting the restaurant as well. once inside i requested seating for two preferably outside. outside seating was going to be a thirty-minute wait, which was fine, its friday night and they have a great bar, so my guest and i sat at the bar until our table was ready. while at the bar a small group of four individuals was having drinks while waiting for a table to become available. once their table it available the bartender notified a member of the group and mentioned that instead of closing the bill out at the bar for the drinks he could transfer it to their table, so that once dinner was finished they could pay for everything all at one time, so they opted to move their tab to the table. i thought to myself, “that's a great idea, i'll do that too, it will make everything a lot easier.” so, when the bartender came over to my guest and me to notify us that our table was ready, i was under the impression that he was going to offer us the same option, but he didn't. he made us aware that our table was ready and placed our bill in front of us. i thought to myself, that’s weird, but whatever i'll notify the person seating us to transfer the tab over to our table. i picked up the bill, and as i'm walking away, he says “did you want to pay here?”. i said, “no.” then he says, “oh, would you like me to transfer it to your table?” the screen at in woodbury is not one that is very diverse, even though the neighboring communities are filled with minorities. you will not see many people there, aside from the staff that are minorities. so, being that my guest and i were two of this very few numbers of minorities present, the exchange at the bar didn't make me feel great. we were seated, the waiter and meal were great, after paying we talked off your meal at the beautiful fire pit before heading back to the car. once at the car everything seemed fine until we got inside and noticed that someone had broken in and stole all of my belongings. i am familiar with the communities that surround this newly developed area which woodbury kitchen calls home, and i know that crime is a huge issue in those neighboring communities, which is why the closer you get to the restaurant the more you notice that the new housing developments have gated parking garages and everything is well-lit. it would be nice to have the same option in regards to parking when dining in the area; no one wants to finish their dinner to get back to their car and realize their personal belongs were stolen. patrons want to come to an establishment where they feel safe and welcome and this past friday i didn’t feel either one of those things.
