while my time at woodberry kitchen is often one of a great experience, my visit this past friday was not one i would like to relive and has me questioning whether or not i will be revisiting the establishment in the future and most importantly the area itself. understandably, there is not a lot of available parking near the restaurant. between the glass blowing factory, countless town-homes, law offices and architectural firms you’ll be lucky if you to find a parking spot and usually i would have parked valet, but it was full. so, i parked directly across from the town homes on the rock covered lot, populated with lots of other vehicles whom i'm sure belonged to people visiting the restaurant as well.  once inside i requested seating for two preferably outside. outside seating was going to be a thirty-minute wait, which was fine, its friday night and they have a great bar, so my guest and i sat at the bar until ourtablewas ready. while at the bar a small group of four individuals was having drinks while waiting for atableto become available.  once theirtableit available the bartender notified a member of the group and mentioned that instead of closing the bill out at the bar for the drinks he could transfer it to their table, so that once dinner was finished they could pay for everything all at one time, so they opted to move their tab to the table. i thought to myself, “that's a great idea, i'll do that too, it will make everything a lot easier.” so, when the bartender came over to my guest and me to notify us that ourtablewas ready, i was under the impression that he was going to offer us the same option, but he didn't. he made us aware that ourtablewas ready and placed our bill in front of us. i thought to myself, that’s weird, but whatever i'll notify the person seating us to transfer the tab over to our table. i picked up the bill, and as i'm walking away, he says “did you want to pay here?”. i said, “no.” then he says, “oh, would you like me to transfer it to your table?”  the screen at in woodbury is not one that is very diverse, even though the neighboring communities are filled with minorities. you will not see many people there, aside from the staff that are minorities. so, being that my guest and i were two of this very few numbers of minorities present, the exchange at the bar didn't make me feel great.  we were seated, the waiter and meal were great, after paying we talked off your meal at the beautiful fire pit before heading back to the car. once at the car everything seemed fine until we got inside and noticed that someone had broken in and stole all of my belongings. i am familiar with the communities that surround this newly developed area which woodbury kitchen calls home, and i know that crime is a huge issue in those neighboring communities, which is why the closer you get to the restaurant the more you notice that the new housing developments have gated parking garages and everything is well-lit. it would be nice to have the same option in regards to parking when dining in the area; no one wants to finish their dinner to get back to their car and realize their personal belongs were stolen.  patrons want to come to an establishment where they feel safe and welcome and this past friday i didn’t feel either one of those things.

baltimore does have great food.. thought we made a wrong turn. turns out we were wrong and made a right turn. when you find the place, you'll remember it always. woodberry kitchen, around since 2008, finally made it to me by word of mouth, like all good secrets and good things. even had to ask the valets huddled around a woodfire on the street in front of the building: "through them doors". stayed 2 1/2 hours of no pressure dining. beth and i ordered the "snake charmer" and whiskey smash" while reading through the menu. ordered and ate the "mozzerella" and "pork belly" appetizers while still reading through the menu. ordered another "snake" and "whiskey" while we took in the renovated ambiance of the old brick building, wood trimmings, and metal rods that kept the ancient structure from caving in. we sat in front of the "open" kitchen with its brick oven and watched the 10 young chefs create their unique offerings. ordered a 1/2 bottle of cab sov. my 14 oz ribeye came with its own crafted sauce. the au gratin potatoes were the finest i've ever eaten. beth was presented with a braised beef dish accompanied with whole wheat spaetzle. of coarse we tasted the others food and couldn't decide which was better. no wrong choices here. after careful decision making, we ordered "apple pie" and "mud pie" and two french press coffees. when delivered, we were given a sand timer: "when the sand falls through, you can press the coffee. you'll like that." our waitress, hanna, treated us with careful hands. having worked there for a year and a half, she was very in tune with the food, drinks, wine, and how to handle patrons. she informed us about the regionally grown herbs, vegetables, and locally supplied meats and seafood. clothtabletops, and "individual use" cloth hand towels in the bathrooms were standards. they are not going green, they are green. out of pocket: $272.94 (including the 20% and valet). are we going back? of course, for the food, not so often because of the price. request the main room in front of the kitchen. you'll have to make a reservation.

...one of my baltimore favorites. woodberry kitchen reminds me of my new york home, as it could easily be transplanted to anywhere in brooklyn and would fit right in. the major difference is that the farm totableconcept comes from growers of the chesapeake instead of the hudson. i am always happy to see the local food movement flourish in the burbs of my hometown in md. housed in an old factory, coming here feels like you’ve taken a step back in time.

i tried woodberry kitchen for dinner with my family about a year ago and thought it was wonderful, but i’ve also heard great things about their brunch . on a leisurely saturday morning some friends and i headed over to hampden to check it out. woodberry kitchen  is possibly one of baltimore’s most talked about restaurants. trip advisor ranks it as the #8 restaurant in baltimore. all the food is farm totableand woodberry kitchen prides itself on having a good relationship with local farmers in the area. woodberry kitchen for parking, they offer a free valet service which is always a nice amenity to offer. inside, the building used to be a warehouse but has been since been converted into a two-story restaurant. interior – photo credit google if you are a picky eater, coming to woodberry kitchen  for dinner might not be a great idea because the menu changes daily. however, the brunch menu is available online. i knew to make a reservation in advance so when we arrived at noon, while it w

i don't get the hype. woodberry kitchen was beyond disappointing. we heard great things but waited 20+ minutes for atablewith reservations and felt like we were basically ignored once we sat down. the hard cider was in a tiny glass, the pickles and greek salad were peppery, and the noodles and veggies were completely inedible. not sure why the place is so busy since neither the service or food were good. i went home and ate dinner.

the restaurant features seasonal foods from local growers, and dishes of the chesapeake region. this is a true fresh farm totablerestaurant! all dishes comes in relatively small plates which leaves you wanting for more!

great atmosphere, great food and the direction we need to move in!. we went with my parents on christmas eve. the atmosphere is amazing. if you like exposed brick, old converted industrial areas you will love it. you don't necessarily have to be "into" the local, organic, farm totablelifestyle but it certainly helps! i decided to get something which i usually do not, a burger. it was absolutely delicious! the only sort of negative i had was that it was too thick; i know that would be far from a negative for most people and it certainly didn't stop my enjoying it! i cant remember everything else that the others ordered but everyone really enjoyed their food. the waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and the sourcing of it all. for dessert two of us had the chocolate pudding with a home made cream on top....it was amazing as well! i was really disappointed that i do not like oysters because it looks like they had an amazing selection! it was a great experience and we will definitely be returning soon!

my favorite restaurant in baltimore. woodberry kitchen is our favorite baltimore restaurant. their farm totablephilosophy, and commitment to using local vendors makes every experience there special. plus the ambiance is everything you could ask for in hip restaurant, that has an exclusive feel, yet is so down to earth. we have been here several times, but our most notable experience was new years eve-2010 into 2011. we happend to score a last minute reservation( we called nyears eve day at around 5) at 11pm. it was perfect, all od the staff was so attentive- we felt like we were celebrities! we had to wait a little longer for our table- but were provided with free bar snack appetizers to tide us over. ourtablewas great- it was upstairs, and we had never sat up there before. a perfect corner booth. we ordered a bottle of champagne and oysters from chincoteague- a childhood vacation spot for me- and they were promptly brought to our table. for entrees i had the steak and dave had a veggie pasta dish. my steak was a little disappointing in that it was a bit fatty and chewy. but this was the only time ive ever not loved my entree. i had the chicken and biscuits there a month before and just adored it! big portions, great quality and over all amazingness abounds at woodberry. its a must go to if you live anywhere in maryland.

great food! great service! i was skeptical since i don't care for overly fancy food..... first off, i'm a really simple eater. i'm also a creature of habit. if it ain't broke don't fix it. that's how i eat. i can go to the same place for years and only order the same thing because i'm picky, and i don' t want to try something new then end up disappointed and hungry afterward. i'm ok with trying new spots, but if i find something i like there, i'd rather stick with that next time i return. i dislike a lot of common things (cheese, mayo, for example). i eat in order, fries first then burger, and i don't like my food to touch.

i was looking for some place romantic to take my wife. i don't recall what special occasion it was, but i wanted seafood. this place was rated "romantic" and highly rated for food so i gave it a shot.

they provided valet parking at the front door, but after i watched the valet guy nearly peel out in an audi, there was no way i was giving him my benz. the place was quite hidden in my opinion. located somewhere in baltimore that had a bit of a hood feel to it, but this particular location was nice. it felt artsy fartsy. in fact it was connected to an art store of some sort as well.

the place was small and quaint. not too small, but definitely not big. the waitress sat us next to the chefs/kitchen i asked her for something more private. they moved us upstairs. i felt bad because we were the onlytableupstairs and i didn't want the waitress to have to go up and down those rather long flight of stairs for just one table. but she insisted it was ok.

the food, excellent. i really hate places that are overly fancy, foods you can't pronounce, creations that don't sound like they'd bode well together. this place pretty much did that. there were foods i hadn't heard of, creations that sounded disgusting together.

for example, i had some sort of fish (what kind of reviewer am i, i can't even remember what kind of fish), but it was topped with grits. talk about damn good. i would have never in a million years thought i would like it. but i was very impressed. the taste was a perfect combination. i also had some sort of sauteed brussel sprouts. again, excellent.

by the way, the place had a wooden castle sort of feel. it almost felt like a knight might walk in at any given moment looking for a plate of food. once inside, the place was darkly lit, but the atmosphere grew fairly loud once people started rolling in. i wouldn't exactly call it romantic. especially given the distance of eachtablefrom one another. the place supports local businesses, so the menu changes frequently.

disappointed for the last time. we had many friends recommending this place to us and we tried it. the food can be really good and we love their oysters. the first time we sat upstairs and had a great waitress who really knew the menu. lovely lady and together with the food and personal service, we decided we might just be regulars here. the next time we sat outside. the food was fine but the waitress needed some help. quite frankly the whole dinner became bland after a while because the bad service distracted us from enjoying the food. we were really put off by this because we brought a friend with us and we wanted her to see what a great place we had found based on our first visit. it was embarassing but we kept reminding ouselves that the food was quite good!
anyway, after a while we thought that we should give woodberry kitchen another chance; after all the reviews were really good. the food is organic and local, ya dah, ya dah, ya dah...
so for our wedding anniversary, my husband wanted to revisit the 'charm' we experienced the first time we came to woodberry kitchen. he got atablefor two upstairs and clearly told the people at the front desk that it was our special night. it was a monday evening in january. not a busy night at all. surely they can provide good service and food, right?
in our dreams of course! it was a disappointment. in the begining the service was as expected, they took our orders. we got our drinks and food and everything was fine but we noticed as time went on, the service became lethargic and, in the end, we were totally neglected. we wanted more drinks and even thought of ordering dessert. imagine that, the nerve of thinking of ordering dessert in a restaurant on our anniversay! due to this extreme neglect we decided let's just pay and go home. and still we waited because no one came to clear the table. i guess sitting upstairs can be a problem at woodberry kitchen. out of sight, out of mind??? we waited and waited until finally my husband decided to use his cell phone to call up the restaurant to get some service. of course, after telling the manager (via cell phone, while sitting upstairs in the restaurant), about the neglect, he came up in ~2 minutes to get it resolved. a whirlwind of activity surrounded us! we could have actually walked out without paying. in hindsight we should have done it. i was so sad especially for my husband because he tried his best on our anniversary. we just wanted to leave. the rest was a blur but i do remember the manager that night apologizing profusely and giving us his card etc, etc, trying to repair the damage. and the food, you would ask? well, i don't remember because the whole incident left a very bad taste in our mouths.
i know this place is very popular and i know that there are some regulars that are treated very well. good for them. but aside from excellent food, i think service and treating each and every new customer well is an integral part of a good restaurant.
we had heard from close friends of ours that they experienced something different. bless their hearts! i hope they will not be mistreated like we were. at the same time i have also heard similar stories about poor service and difficulties to book tables over there (yet when you go there the tables are empty???). anyway, i don't think woodberry kitchen cares about poor service because they have so many customers coming and going based on the 'good' reviews they get on their food. tell me, how long can they ride this out? a satisfied customer will become a regular and spread the news to more new customers. is there a selection process of whom should be a regular customer here? woodberry kitchen, you're organic and local but we have been disappointed for the last time.
