the toad on the road

been here a few times, and thought it would be a good place to celebrate a last minute birthday celebration for a friend. walked in last night and it wasn't buzzing like it usually is. i see management changes here quite often too. for alot of our friends it was the first time being there and thought the food was ok overall most of them had ribs, one had mexicanapizzahe didn't enjoy to much. i had chicken livers it's definitely pub grub if that's what you're into. negatives were our waiter changed like 5 times was confusing, place closes at 11 but they were ringing a loud bell at 10:30 i'm assuming to chase us out and not for last rounds. standard has dropped unfortunately.

i love pizza. like a lot, so much so that it's a interest on my cv. i have hadpizzafrom a lot of different places, takeaway, sit down restaurants, expensive pizza, cheap pizza,pizzaof all different shapes and sizes. but this place has the bestpizzai have ever had hands down.

the crust is super thin, firm, and crunchy. thepizzais loaded with the most flavourful toppings.

then on top of the best pizza, their ribs are spectacular, the atmosphere is great. just my favourite place to hang out.


service was fast, got our drinks within 2 minutes of ordering, and the food never took longer than 20 - 30 min to arrive. waiters are friendly and make great recommendations.

an interesting menu with entertaining dish names. we were in the mood for apizzaand had to try out the toad surprise. thepizzawas good, but contained a few wood shavings, hope they clean their ovens soon. service was efficient and friendly.

i have been to the toad many times and i have always found this to be my experience:
go there for a few drinks with mates and have chilli poppers as your only meal item and you will leave a happy girl/guy. if you want a really good meal though - this is not the place. the food has always been "ok" at best...at worst - i ordered the chicken schnitzel once and the spinach and butternut it came with were sour (as in totally off). i have found hair in mypizzaon two separate occasions. i have had the pie and found 1 piece of meat in it - the rest was just gravy. 
the service is very very poor - you wait a long time if you dare to order food. the reason to go back though is the vibe and like i said - have a few drinks, get a few poppers and you wont regret it.

i come here pretty often. recently, i've seen the standards drop though. unless its the springboks or the stormers, you will not have sound (even the proteas get the radio).pizzastill pretty good, and the beers are cold. starting to fray around the edges and the place definitely needs a good scrub-down..

the local watering hole, in order to get this status, it must be amazing.   i personally think it has some of the best ribs andpizzayou will find, if not the best in town.   going back tonight so they better be ready for us :)

nice atmosphere during the day with a very nice outside section for almost any weather.   they really have gone far beyond the ordinary on the layout of the pub as come rain or sunshine, there will be a place to enjoy your drinks and meal.   

good beers on tap and very friendly staff, good crowd of people, however it can get a bit rowdy once the sun goes down, but then again every pub does.    good spot to watch a bit of sport with mates as well

a great place for drinks and sport. good service and a relaxed atmosphere. always festive on a thur, fri and sunday. a must try is their new orleanspizzawhich also comes in a halfpizzahalf salad option!

a great venue to watch a sports game and enjoy some pub grub with a beer or two. i ordered apizzafor the table to share as a starter. was very pleased with the generous toppings, great flavour and well made base.pizzagets a 8/10. then i let was on to the ribs, although i noticed that the prices have increased considerably since my last visit, i gave it a bash! the ribs were cooked to perfection, i literally pulled the bone right out of the flesh. it was a great rack of ribs as the portion of meat to bone was generous. the basting was good enough to have me licking my fingers rather than use the finger blow provided. overall rating for the ribs 9/10. considering how full the venue was as they were showing the south africa game vs samoa, our service was outstanding. well done toad!

i have been bcc a few times for this same menu and unfortunately have to report that the ribs have never again been worth mentioning. they are dry and tough. the kitchen staff seem to be taking short cuts and not boiling them for long enough. this really is a shame. i will therefore be dropping their rating.

long overdue revisit.
was last at the toad a while back and found it then to be somewhat over clinical, far too straight laced and not overly visitor friendly.
this was no reflection on the food or staff, purely based on the layout and lack of creativity when it came to the seating areas.
big, pleasant, surprise in store.
compliments to whoever was responsible for the current changes.
new outside bar area - best addition by far -pizzaoven and all on the old deck and a makeover in the garden seating area.bathrooms currently busy with a revamp as well.good on you.
the entire mood was different from the start. serving staff where on top of their game. big smiles, efficient service and staff that actually enjoyed what they were doing. huge high fives to all concerned. (thank you carla).
a light, in between beers snack was delivered (nachos) together with a complimentary dish of lamb from the spit. both the dishes added to the festive mood and made the on-going beverages taste even better. the lamb was to die for.
in summary - was a very hurried affair, but never the less, one which has added the toad on the road back onto my, must visit and bring friends along with more regularly list.(if that makes any sense).
great new look, awesome staff and well worth a return visit. believe the pizza's are on my list of must haves next time round. can’t wait.

no matter what you are in the mood for, the toad will accommodate you. different areas for your different moods, menu has everything frompizzato burgers, salads, nachos and steaks. nice variety, nice vibe. can be chilled out sunday restaurant for a relaxing easy lunch or can be the local pub with a great local vibe.
well priced, good food. service is friendly and efficient.

great food, great atmosphere and lots to see and do. pizzais a must-have, burgers delicious and excellent value for money. the ideal place if you have children and even doggies are welcome. service is very good, nothing to complain about, but make sure you get there early for lunch or dinner because there is limited parking and seating.

at first glance you don’t expect much, but when you walk around there is a lovely outside section where you can relax and enjoy some fresh air. inside was neat and spacious. it was like an upmarket bar for sport lovers.
we sat by one of the flat screen tv's to watch the soccer.

we were greeted by a friendly waiter. we ordered cool drinks(for once), and the search for what to have to eat began!

in the end i had some calamari & unfortunately it was a little too tough. my friends ordered the following; butter chicken, not the greatest. chicken schnitzel ,this is huge and tasted good. cajun chicken salad, also huge and tastes great. new orleans bbq pizza. smelled good and apparently it is the bestpizzaaround.

this is a nice place for big family lunch and to watch some sport.
we did have an enjoyable time and if we are in the area we will go back for some hearty meals.

this place was totally not what i was expecting! while i knew it would be a pub, the food is really top-class quality and choice! i shared the crowd favouritepizzawith my mom, and had to be torn away from her half of the pizza, it was so delicious. my dad's butter chicken was something i will definitely be going back for, and my fiance claimed his chicken schnitzel was one of the best he has ever tried (and he's tried a few in his lifetime)!

the only downside was that, being a pub, it was extremely rowdy. coupled with a rugby match being played on tv, it was almost impossible to hear each other speak. however, it was a lovely and warm space on a very rainy and miserable day, and i would be happy to go back any time (maybe not on a rugby day!).

second time around, i tried one of the pizzas... yum!!!
