loud, crowded venue smack dab in the heart of dirty, dirty hipsterville.

great sandwiches, though, and the best moscow mule in town.

so there's that.

the mule is a one of my favorite places to hang out with friends. it is located in super trendy midtown. the food and drinks are great and the staff are amazing. my most recent trip to the mule we brought a "newbie" she couldn't believe it - she said she would have sworn this was a trendy "big city" bar. i told her "we are big city baby"! but i digress...

for starters we shared the okie poutine which is battered fries and watonga cheese curds covered in gravy (don't judge if you've never tired it - it is amazing). for dinner we had the h.a.m. sandwich (prosciutto, gruyere, & fig puree on sourdough) and the cortez (jalapeno cornbread, braised short ribs, peperoncino cheese, carmelized jalapenos and onions plus spicy aioli). omg!

now let's talk about these drinks: i've tried so many but this trip we had burro's (tequilla, ginger beer, & lime), okie mule's (vodka, ginger beer, and lime), and a jameson pickle back (this is a shot of jameson and pickle juice) - it was super different but i liked it!

we sat at the bar and the bartender was everything she was suppose to be. she was friendly, witty, conversational (but not too much), and she talked up the house specialties.

love this place!!!

i've eaten here twice per suggestion of the parties i went with. both times i have been dissapointed. the food is dull and heavy. this being said, the beer battered fries are amazing. the place has a good atmosphere if you're just looking to get a drink and snack, but i would not suggest it as a place to have a meal.

it changed my life. i mean i'd been hearing good things about the mule since they opened - but the plaza district is a bit off the beaten path and for someone from norman...just don't get up that way too often. wish i'd gone sooner. won't be long before i go back.

appetizer: fried cheese curds served with ranch and marinara. don't need the ranch and marinara. these things were perfect. light and airy and cooked to just the right level of golden brown. mouth is watering just thinking about it.

i partook of the macaroni pony. it was just crazy enough to work. and work it did. i don't know how they're baking up jalapeno cornbread in a loaf - but they are and it's perfect. the pulled pork was cooked to just the right level of doneness and was moist and flavorful. the mac'n'chee rounded it out perfectly. fries appeared to be of the frozen-breaded variety. but it seems they make them their own by, again, cooking them perfectly and then adding just a bit of cinnamon - which totally works. i'd still rather have fresh cut - but these will do.

dining companion #1 had the fancy pants. again - perfection. she really likes the chicken/pear/brie harmony. dining companion #2 had the big ass grilled cheese. apt name. cheese oozing out of it. the accompanying tomato soup was beautiful with some thin sliced fresh parm on top.if you're wondering whether you should go - just go. now.

these cheese curds are something to dream about! i was not expecting to devour every last one of these but we did and it was worth every calorie. this place was so much fun loved the environment and outside dinning.

came here for sunday brunch. i ordered biscuits and gravy. the biscuits are good, the gravy is plain. all eggs are over easy. the home style potatoes are good. took awhile to get our meal, but it was packed.
addition: ate the bclt. it was delicious. the house salad is also really good.

service ✔ delicious food ✔ great drinks✔
the sandwiches are flavorful and fresh tasting and the beet salad is a must. the plaza district is becoming more fun by the day and definitely worth the visit. parking is also easier to find than visiting downtown.

greatest sandwiches ever! i've had 4 different sandwiches here and they've all been absolutely incredible. the fydh is my favorite and i can't wait to try the macaroni pony. as an appetizer the okie poutine is hard to beat. don't forget to try the tomato soup. definitely large enough to split sandwiches.

the mule is an awesome place. if you go during the weekend on an evening you'll likely have issues finding a close parking spot and there will be a wait to get seated.

the decor and atmosphere is dimly lit and wood everywhere. they serve up modern versions of comfort food, mainly high quality sandwhiches.

the macoroni pony and the grilled cheese are my favorites. cant go wrong with the tomato soup. the beer battered fries are freakin' amazing! we often call it in and get it to go. pro tip: get the grilled cheese with mac and cheese on it and a aide of tomato soup - awesome during cold weather!

the service can be hit or miss. it is a small place and gets crowded at times. again, parking for this location can be less than ideal. it is a bit on the hipsterish side but not you wont feel out of place.

my girlfriend and i have eaten here many times. the food is always consistent in taste, portion and temprature - even when we get it to go.

i would suggest eating here during a weeknight or lunch during the weekend. after your meal, walk down to roxy's ice cream social for desert!

ps. trust me on the beer battered fries!

the mule is not what i was expecting! the staff were all pleasant and our server also happened to be the bartender. the wait for the food was long for just sandwiches it's was close 20 minutes and only one other table was present. the sandwiches were nothing special but i will give them another try in the near future.

this is our first time here. we had the cheese curd appetizer. my husband ordered the okie mule and i got the pineapple jack. they are both really good drinks. our kiddos got the pb&j with fruit. i ordered the macaroni pony with onion rings. it has really good flavor a. the hubbs ordered the bclt with fries. the fries come with some seasoning that smells like cinnamon and/or nutmeg. they are amazing!!

did they switch to using government cheese? the quality of food and the rude staff make this a hipster fail. too many bars and restaurants to waste your time.

if you're game for very unique grilled cheeses this is the place for you. i got the macaroni pony which was pretty good but the only one i was really interested in trying. it was pretty greasy so i didn't feel so well afterwards. my husband really enjoyed this place. he got the fancy pants and really loved it. i enjoyed the experience of something this unique but probably won't be returning anytime soon. as for my husband, he would probably come back more often.
