a nice jackass!. the mule is a hipsters dream, with local craft beers and a hip wood drenched environment that would make anyone with a handle bar mustache proud. the food however is hit or miss. sometimes you get an amazing sandwich that makes you want to slap your mamma and other times you just want someone to slap you for eating there.
the service is definitely un-refined with waiters being about as spot on as the food. don't expect anyone to tell you they have been making substitutions in the kitchen unless you spot it yourself, and don't expect the waitstaff to go out of the way for you what so ever.
with a clientele that seems to ere on the side of the hip, young and overly confident at times the mule has filled a niche in the plaza district that other places have missed. serving up bar food that actually tastes good and a substantial variety make this agreatplace for a dinner under $20. just keep in mind you might be letting out your belt the next day.
the mule has definitely carved out a place in the plaza and is here to stay but if they expect to continue going up rather than flat lining they need to address there customer service and healthier options for the menu.

excellent place for lite eating.greatdrinks and atmosphere. the only real down side is the limited seating but i’ve never needed to wait more than a few minutes. this is a sandwich place basically but whoa!, do you get quality! go here for laid back and casual meet ups with friends and be prepared for making more friends. the atmosphere lends itself to speaking with other patrons

the mule is a one of my favorite places to hang out with friends. it is located in super trendy midtown. the food and drinks aregreatand the staff are amazing. my most recent trip to the mule we brought a "newbie" she couldn't believe it - she said she would have sworn this was a trendy "big city" bar. i told her "we are big city baby"! but i digress...

for starters we shared the okie poutine which is battered fries and watonga cheese curds covered in gravy (don't judge if you've never tired it - it is amazing). for dinner we had the h.a.m. sandwich (prosciutto, gruyere, & fig puree on sourdough) and the cortez (jalapeno cornbread, braised short ribs, peperoncino cheese, carmelized jalapenos and onions plus spicy aioli). omg!

now let's talk about these drinks: i've tried so many but this trip we had burro's (tequilla, ginger beer, & lime), okie mule's (vodka, ginger beer, and lime), and a jameson pickle back (this is a shot of jameson and pickle juice) - it was super different but i liked it!

we sat at the bar and the bartender was everything she was suppose to be. she was friendly, witty, conversational (but not too much), and she talked up the house specialties.

love this place!!!

the sandwiches are flavorful and fresh tasting and the beet salad is a must. the plaza district is becoming more fun by the day and definitely worth the visit. parking is also easier to find than visiting downtown.

simply delicious.. my wife and i finally made it over to the mule last night. it was a saturday and we expected it to be overflowing with people, but the wait wasn't too bad, about fifteen to twenty minutes. after a few minutes we saw some open seats at the bar and decided to eat dinner there instead. our bartender was agreatserver who was extremely polite and very attentive. the okie mule cocktail is crazy good and i would highly recommend it. the food was a much higher quality than what i had expected. i ordered the herbivore and was pleasantly surprised that the dish had agreatbalance of flavors. this wasn't just a grilled cheese sandwich, it was a meal. prices were good for the quality - two meals and two drinks for just over thirty dollars.

we were very pleased with our experience and will be returning.

the unicorn of mules. when a restaurant's entire menu is centered around variations of one single dish, it's hard not to make the assumption that maybe, just maybe, the place is onto something. the mule takes everything you thought you knew about the humble, everyman cheese sandwich and amps it up. for any honest human, it's impossible to deny the allure and simplicity of cheese meets bread. face it, you can still almost taste the grilled cheese sandwich you had on plain ol' wonder bread as a kid (or iron kids, if you were among the affluent). visit the mule and your childhood self is going to collide with grown up you in a crazy culinary mash up that even marty mcfly couldn't comprehend.
for instance, consider the dilemmas involved in making a choice at a good barbecue joint. with all those options, what do you get? pre-k you picks macaroni and cheese, but college freshman you definitely springs for the pulled pork. you're in luck, you and you, because the macaroni pony delivers both! the tender, saucy pulled pork mutes the macaroni accompanying the sharp cheddar laden sammie, but that won't matter a bit once you realize what sort of bread you're dealing with. the bread, yes i said it, the bread is the star of the porky, cheesy, buttery dish. it's a hybrid cornbread/sourdough blend, with minced jalapeno peppers added into the dough. buttered before hitting the flat top, the grain bookends holding all your barbecue style fillings get a crisp edge that contrasts the soft innards of the sandwich perfectly.
perhaps, instead, you're feeling particularly adventurous. maybe you're thirteen and you really want to impress your best friend who triple dog dared you to try goat cheese. or maybe you're in the mood for something comforting. you might be twenty-six, on the road, and just jonesing for that stick to your ribs goodness that makes you feel at home again. whatever the case, the f.y.d.h. has you covered. this grilled cheddar cheese entree proudly touts a fried just-over-easy egg, fresh and creamy avocado, and thick, smoky bacon, on made from scratch sourdough bread. these elevated staples plus the subtle tang from a smear of rich, velvety goat cheese and a kick from the (much too thinly applied) layer of pepper aioli send this one outside the borders ofgreatto otherworldly; no longer quite a grilled cheese, but one of the best comfort food sandwiches you'll ever indulge in.
with all this talk of pre-adolescence nostalgia inducing fare, it would be pure foolishness not to include the mule's french fries and onion rings. after all, who hasn't engaged in multiple 'who has the best fries' debates with the entire cafeteria? whether you were a die hard mcdonald's, burger king, arby's, jack in the box, or whataburger supporter (nobody in their right mind picks wendy's so i won't even mention it), the mule caters to your palate. dredged in a seasoned coating, the fries are crisp and the onions are tender without being slimy. a slight hint of nutmeg in the batter gives them that unexpected grown-up spark, and really sets them apart from even the better fried sides offered up by expert greasy spoons around town.
with stellar sandwiches and fried goodness that appeals to every age of me, this is one restaurant i'll yearn for back home. i don't get the chance to visit okc often, but when i do you can bet i'll be a regular a the mule.

took a chance. i really wanted to like this place.greatatmosphere. fabulous service. the sandwich concepts were interesting, and the flavor combinations were good. but it was so greasy! now i will say here that this is a pub and i get the impression that pub food is generally greasy--does drinking beer, etc., affect the way the food goes down? i'm not a drinker so i don't know. the salads might have been a better choice for me. i'm not saying this was a bad restaurant. i actually liked it aside from the oil content (i'm generally a pretty clean eater), and if that doesn't bother you, this may be just what you are looking for. i took a chance and i don't regret it.

two down two to go..... after having a wonderful time at empire we decided to take the suggestion of our server rory and try the mule. i'm so happy we did.greatservice the food was even better. i had the macaroni pony and my wife had a full beet salad. the staff was amazing and the food blew us away. although not a place i would bring our daughter but it's perfect for adults. we had to wait a bit but the staff was friendly and helpful and with food that good a wait is expected. the food delivery was prompt. we will be back for sure! i unfortunately don't remember the servers name but will look for her when we come back. there also seems to be agreatsence of community in the plaza.

excellent place for out-of-towners. this place is an absolute favorite between my boyfriend and i. oklahoma city is lacking in vegan-friendly restaurants. they also cater to the gluten-free crowd. although some would consider this a "hipster" joint, it is not too hip to check out. they have a nice patio that faces north, so the building aids in blocking the sun. albeit the fries are greasy, that is only to be expected for a deep fried dish. if you are interested in a healthier option, they have incredible vegetable side dishes that put the traditional carrot, broccoli, and cauliflower to shame. to top it off the young owners foster agreatenvironment for their staff. a major plus in my book.
i also love the concept of leave-a-drink for someone.
